His throat is raw mid-scream when he becomes aware of Shinji’s voice. With shaking, shallow breaths, Shuuhei grabs at the visored to confirm that he really is here and not… elsewhere. Not being forced to watch over and over and over again as he fails to save the man who, traitor or not, had been so precious to him.

But he can tell none of that to Shinji. As one of the visored — nay, as one who had crossed blades with Tousen before — Shuuhei will surely get no sympathy by confessing the content of his terrors. That, knowing how alone he is, makes the aftermath all the worse, until he’s crying and hiding his face in Shinji’s bosom, his coltish frame wracked with half-stifled sobs.

I'm sorry but as someone whose attempted suicide twice I can say nobody deserves to be told to kill themselves over something as trivial as a blog. As far as I've seen you done nothing wrong and shouldn't feel ashamed.

He doesn’t say anything in reply. It’s enough for right now to lean into Shinji’s embrace. Even if this acceptance, too, will fade, he isn’t ready to let go yet. So he presses close to Shinji, tucking his face into the crook of the visored’s neck and measuring his erratic breathing against the steady heartbeat.

At feeling the soft fabric on his skin, Shuuhei opens his eyes just enough to catch sight of Shinji, and he smiles in a drowsy haze. He’ll have to find some way to thank the visored properly later, but for now? he’s much too tired for anything except a nap.

Shinji wraps his arms around Shuuhei, brushing his hand over his hair and beginning to hum quietly.

He pays the humming little mind, but the physical contact is a small anchor for him. Gnawing on a dark feeling in his gut, Shuuhei murmurs a fear into Shinji’s shoulder. “…You’ll tell me if I become a burden on you… won’t you, Hirako-taichou?”
