“ATA RANGI” Martinborough in New Zealand 

2023年５月４日、ニュージーランド北島南東部マーティンボローにあるワイナリー“アタ・ランギ”を訪問しました。”アタ・ランギ(ATA RANGI)”はマオリ語で「new beginning（新しい始まり）」や「dawn sky（夜明けの空）」という意味。アタ・ランギは1980年に創立、マーティンボローのピノ・ノワールワインを世界レベルにした先駆者です。 

約32ヘクタールの畑でブドウを栽培し、土壌は300-600mmの浅いシルトロームと25-30mの深さの沖積礫岩、2014年に最初の畑がBioGroオーガニック認証を取得後、現在、最後の畑が認証取得に向けて移行中。170枚以上のソーラーパネルを設置して年間を通じて必要な電力の33％以上を賄い、剪定から収穫まで手作業で行っています。 

５か月前に完成したばかりというガラス張りの素敵なテイスティングルームでの試飲。

１） Te Wā Sauvignon Blanc 2021

“Te Wā”はマオリ語で“時間と場所”という意味。春に吹く冷たい南風が、開花時の果房に厳しく吹き付けるため、果房を小さくして収穫量を減少。砂利土壌がブドウの樹勢を和らげて葉の成長を抑えるため、ゆっくりと時間をかけて果実が熟成し、深いフレーバーの果皮と熟した種をつくります。木樽での発酵。45％木樽熟成。メロン、ネクタリン、ハニーのようなアロマ。

２） Pōtiki Chardonnay 2021

“Pōtiki”はマオリ語で“最近生まれた”という意味で、新しい樹から収穫されたブドウを野生酵母により樽発酵。20%新樽、80％古樽で熟成。桃、柑橘類、アーモンドの香りにリンゴ風味と塩味を感じ、生き生きとした酸味と複雑で深みのある味わい。

３） CRIMSON Pinot Noir 2021

2021年の収穫量は大変少なかったが、その分凝縮した果実に。６か月の樽熟成。ダークチェリーやマルベリー、タイムのアロマに、大豆や焼いたオレンジの香ばしい味わいとフレッシュな酸味。

４） Pinot Noir 2020

2020年は最高の年。最も古い区画のブドウのみを使用したプレミアムピノノワール。９か月の樽熟成。ラズベリー、バラ、ダークチェリーに乾いたポルチーニやハーブが混じり合った芳醇な香り。複雑で優美、このヴィンテージはまさにマーティンボローのピノ・ノワールを体現している。

５） Célèbre 2020

メルロー46%、シラー38％、マルベック9％、カベルネ・フラン7%のブレンド。シナモンのスパイスから始まり、熟したプラムやスミレへと続く香り。若々しいが、複雑で凝縮感のある味わい。

６） Late Harvest White Blend 2022

ピノ・グリ50%、リースリング40%、ソーヴィニヨン・ブラン10%。貴腐菌が付くのを待って遅摘みしたブドウから造られた甘口ワイン。華やかな香り、酸と残糖のバランスが完璧な、深みのある味わい。 

アタ・ランギでの試飲後、”クスダ・ワインズ“のオーナー醸造家、「世界のクスダ」と称賛されている楠田浩之さんとお会いすることができました！著名なワイン評論家ジャンシス・ロビンソン女史が2回も自らクスダ・ワインズに足を運び、そのワインを試飲したという程素晴らしいワインを造っていらっしゃいます。残念ながらNZでは入手困難だったので、日本に帰ってからオンラインショップで即買いしました!
