// SOMBR: ritual objects for the end of things
An earlier transmission. A different method of manufacturing decay. Wax, ash, time, tobacco. Burnable elegies from a vanished brand.
Each candle was a poem disguised as an object. Each scent a slow entropy.
I no longer make these. I guess that's the point.
“Remove before burning” — instructions, or prophecy?

Most objects in my home tell a story. Today I amateurishly restored this wicker table that was nearly trashed in our mothers garage, then mine. I remembered there was a photo of it with this same jug taken by my mother. My grandfather Albert Burns was an amateur antique restorer. He used all sorts of concoctions. He had many broken antiques which had travelled in loaded tea chests from their business in Margate to their new home in WA in the 1950s. I remember watching him using gold leaf and he also painted in oils and made pastries. He was never terribly good at faces and neither am I. We have the same hand for faces..unlike my sister who is an exceptional portrait painter. I love the jug with its quirky personality and crooked lines and faces and if you could see up close my table restoration is just as crooked and lumpy but it stands and it can now hold this jug as it did before in the photo with roses from some many years ago on a verandah in Western Australia. Two girls posing for their mum Fran Burns, who was actually an exceptional photographer due to a life long breadth of documentation of us and the things that she loved. #objectmemory #memorypalace #thingsandplaces #francesburns #albertburns #ephemera 💕 #restoration https://instagr.am/p/CZoXzAZhvUD/
