I guess the idea of an affirmative legal defense is kind of complicated, but it's not that complicated. Any time laws around serving alcohol comes up, it becomes clear that most people have false beliefs about what the law is, and more frustratingly, they seem to not be able to fit the true belief into their head.

#obviously laws differ between us states and counties and whatnot #but in all the cases i've looked into #there is no requirement that you ever check anyone's id at all #it merely is an affirmative legal defense in the case of sales to minors #tho in new mexico they ban sales to serial drunk-divers who have interlocks on their cars which seems impossible to comply with w/o carding
