Are you named after anyone?

“No, though Vektor more or less chose my name for me, after tiring of referring to me as my official name of D3TR0-17.”

When was the last time you cried?

“I can’t produce tears, but if I could …” His features are a mangled uncertainty that leads you to think the answer might be ‘now.’

Do you have kids?

At this, Detroit’s eyes light up and he fumbles for something half concealed beneath the hem of his shirt. He detaches it from his belt, holding it up for you to see: an old Tamagotchi in a light blue shell, small nicks peppering across the screen. “This is Avy. I found him in Mattix’s pawn shop.”

Do you use sarcasm a lot?

“However much it takes to irritate Vex on any given day, which is probably not a lot but he might beg to differ.”

What’s the first thing you notice about people?

“Mannerisms, body language. It is what I was designed for.”

What’s your eye colour?

He reaches a finger to rest just below his right eye and says, “Originally they were both this shade of blue, but then …” He frowns. Gestures to the left eye, a soft brown that does not match. “There was a mistake during manufacturing.”

Scary movies or happy endings?

“Scary movies are more inclined to activate my emotional receptors, which makes me feel more in touch with the human experience.”

Any special talents?

“Vektor says I have a skilled mouth.”

Where were you born?

“I was created at the AURAndroid Facility.”

Do you have any pets?

“I have Avy … that is the closest I might ever get to having a pet companion.”

What sort of sports do you play?

“I don’t understand the appeal.”

How tall are you?

“Five feet. Ten inches. And three-fourths.”

What was your favourite subject in school?

“I was programmed with knowledge pre-installed and thus have no use for schooling, but I am still eager to learn anything that isn’t already in my database.”

What is your dream job?

His brow furrows as he contemplates the question. “I was designed to be a top of the line android on the force.”

Hi there! Happy STS! What is the food like in your WIP's world? What's the culture around sharing meals and cooking, or what is a recipe that one of your OCs loves to make and share with people? Or, even if your OC sucks at cooking, what's their go-to?

My response is Late, but it is here nonetheless!

This question came at a good time, as I was doing some Neon Bloodlust world building just the day before it came through, so I knew a few things already. Then spent some time sorting out the rest.

So without further ado, some food facts from Nocturna City :

Farm animals are near extinction, and what isn’t have become a luxury that only the government and rich can access and afford.

Low end diners and food stands sell varieties of ‘mystery meats’ and it’s better you don’t ask about the source.

Vegetation is one of the few things that has flourished since the apocalypse, therefore fruits and vegetables are aplenty, and coffee is a common beverage. [do i know why this is? not entirely, no]

There are also synthetic foods that I haven’t decided anything thing about beyond that, as well as modifications to enhance foods and drinks.

And I am sure there are those who will stoop so low as to eat another human being.

Oh, and bugs? Probably bugs.

Also determined that if any of the main characters was to be any sort of cook, it would be my belovéd android boy, Detroit, just for the fun of experimenting with flavors and textures. He has taste receptors, but cannot actually consume the food, so eating it is often left to Vex … when it is actually edible.

As for his favorite thing to make and taste … julia [ @reininginthefirewriting ] and I concluded this

It has been established already that Detroit has a vintage, cracked Tamagotchi he names Avy [named after the smear of nearly illegible ink found on the back of a polaroid he has pinned to the wall beside his bed, featuring a group of smiling strangers at a festival of sorts, something about this preserved history appeals to him, a lot] … but what should he name the one-eyed rubber ducky he also finds at Mattix’s pawnshop?
