#oc: saturna

okay, so I want to make a post going over and explaining my OC universe. it is currently called "Mortal" (as i currently see it as a tv show) but that's probably subject to change. actually, a lot of this is subject to change as time goes on and I develop my story, but here's what I have for now!

anyways, thanks if anyone reads this and i hope i can explain things and make them make sense lol. disclaimer that i am NOT a worldbuilder, i just love characters and love making them interact. i love my guys!!!!

General Setting:

In the Mortal universe, there is the Celestial Realm (where the gods and angels reside) and Earth (same as our modern day earth). The humans on Earth are unaware of the existence of the realm, but the gods control elements on Earth nonetheless.

I made my gods inspired by greek mythos, so each one controls a different element on earth (ie god of war, god of fire, god of nature, etc). Each god has their own set of angels that they themself created, and the angels serve as sort of... servants for the gods, fulfilling their duties or "jobs", but they're also seen as pretty objects/pets to dress up and parade around (think of the pearls from SU), so they tend to have very little agency.

Angels have different rankings: Seraphs are high ranking and are kept at the heels of their respectful god. Regular angels are in the middle, fulfilling their duties and running society. Demons are low ranking angels, cast out for one reason or another and demoted to the ranking of demon as a punishment, made to do tasks deemed unsightly for higher ranks, and are generally treated pretty poorly, even by other angels. (side note: demons are identified by their broken halos, having jagged edges instead of a solid ring of connected horns)

also, there are MANY hundreds of gods and angels in this universe, but I only focus on a select few because I'll be damned if I make that many characters LOL.

Characters:

okay let me actually get to the characters of this story lol. I should also mention all of the gods and angels in my story are genderless, so I will be using they/them for all of them, but any pronouns are absolutely fine!

Saturna

Saturna is the god of the gods, having created the celestial realm and earth. They are a recluse, quick tempered, and a control freak. They have a deep love for all of their creations, but seldom know how to express it beyond making sure everyone is "perfect" in their eyes.

Saturna's personal angels are known as "Saturna's Own". They are the most powerful angels in the realm, and Saturna treats them as such, spoiling them and allowing their angels to get away with things even when its their fault (this will be important for later in the story).

Adoryx

Adoryx is the god of love, and the creator of my characters Abaddon and Luvrina.

Adoryx is rather unserious, whimsical, a bit ditzy and emotional at times, but still respected among the gods. They tend to dote on their angels a little too much, but rarely take the feelings of their creations very seriously, still seeing the angels as nothing more than little pets. Though they sometimes show favoritism, specifically towards Abaddon.

Luvrina (or just Rina)

(angel form + human form)

Rina is a high seraph under Adoryx's command, and also Abaddon's twin. They portray themself as overly friendly, bubbly, and in control, but their relentless smiles and sickly sweet talk usually come off as creepy and intimidating. They are a stickler for the rules and take their job as seraph very seriously, willing to throw others under the bus to save their own ass. They strive to be seen as the "perfect" angel, and will do anything to keep up that image.

This will be explained further down, but Rina is the antagonist of this story. When Abner is sent to Earth to redeem themself, Rina is tasked with following them and keeping an eye on them, making sure Abner is doing what they're supposed to. Rina doesn't skip a beat in attempting to sabotage Abner in their endeavors.

Abaddon (Abner)

(angel form + human form)

Abner is one of the two main protags of this story! They are vain, brash, and would rather die than be emotionally vulnerable. They tend to care little for people around them, but their one soft spot is Rina, who they are the closest to (at least for a while...).

Abner was created (alongside Rina) to serve under Adoryx many eons ago. For a while, they were obedient to the gods, but once they got a taste of Earth, they started to think "is this really all there is? am I going to be a servant forever?". Despite their growing doubts, they begrudgingly fulfilled their duty as a high seraph, but found respite when they were allowed occasional trips down to Earth as a guardian angel.

Their story kicks off when one day an angel from Saturna's Own heckles Abner out of nowhere, leading to a rather violent scuffle where Abner loses control of their strength and ends up killing the other. Saturna finds out about this and, enraged, threatens to kill Abner for harming one of their own. Adoryx manages to talk down Saturna, begging for Abner's life, and instead Saturna punishes Abner by demoting them to demon and banning them from ever stepping foot on Earth again.

Abner lives out their punishment for a while. They are ridiculed, their story being spun by Saturna to make it seem as if Abner was the instigator, and everyone believes they committed this act on purpose. Even Rina, their closest friend, believes this story and proceeds to distance themself from Abner, even going so far as to ostracize and talk down to them at any chance they get. Abner is truly left with no one to trust or lean on in these times.

After some time, they go to Adoryx and beg them to talk to Saturna. Adoryx reluctantly agrees, somehow convincing Saturna to give Abner a chance to redeem themself. If Abner is successful in their mission as a guardian angel, their status will be restored, but if they fail, well...

Thatcher Black

Here's the other protag, Thatcher!!

Thatcher is a Christian Priest in his 30's. He's a very kind, caring, and detrimentally compassionate man, willing to do anything for anyone, but this tends to let people easily take advantage of him. He's a very anxious person, constantly seeking other's approval, even when he has to bend over backwards for it, seeing himself as someone responsible for taking on other people's stress, but never voicing his own. He's a very "I can fix them" type.

Abner is tasked with being Thatcher's guardian angel, and their meeting goes...interestingly. Thatcher's worldview is shattered when Abner reveals that the almighty "God" is not real, and never has been, leading Thatcher into a spiral, and over time this breakdown forces him to leave the church, feeling as though he is lying to everyone (and himself) when preaching his sermons. He deals with it the best he can, trying to piece himself back together after this revelation, but it's definitely something hard to recover from. Oh, and on top of everything, he has to deal with Abner being the worst roommate ever.

Abner drags Thatch into all sorts of (a lot of the time) dangerous or unpleasant situations, much more preoccupied with living it up and partying on Earth than taking care of him. Despite Abner's crude and uncaring nature, Thatcher ends up head over heels in love with the angel, wrapped around their finger and willing to do anything for them. I'm not sure if Abner returns these feelings, but the two definitely form a...bond, of some sort. Sort of teetering between romantic, platonic, dysfunctional, and unlabeled. Toxic yaoi, if you will.

The story mostly revolves around Thatcher and Abner's shenanigans and their growing, messy relationship, but the general plot of Abner dealing with the feelings of their incident is important as well! I just tend to focus way more on the "romance" aspect because its fun for me lol.

Spoilers, I guess, but I feel its an important story beat: Thatcher dies at the end! I go back and forth on the actual cause, but I feel it has to be by Abner's hand in some way (a complete freak accident, though), just for that delicious full circle story and tragedy <3

"Yes, but..."

"I cannot believe... Even you, Adoryx, even you would defy me? Think of me as cruel? My most beautiful one of all, my dearest... You stand there, after all that you have been through with me, and you question my judgement? I create a utopia for you all, a gift of my love, always giving... I give, and I give, and you seek to think of me as unkind? Just as they did?"

"No, I'm sorry, I'm not like--"

"No more. Leave me. I wish to be alone, I cannot stand the sight of you any longer. Come back when you've finished being ungrateful."

".... Yes, as you wish, my Saturna."

Saturna's presence was...terrifying, to put it lightly.

Oppressive would be a better word. They exuded power, dignity, and destruction. Everyone in the room was especially aware of that last part.

Despite this, it was certainly an honor to be in the same room as them at all. Other gods, and especially many angels, had seldom even seen Saturna in the flesh. They rarely left their extravagant home, preferring to lock themself away, to tinker with their creations, than to deal with the bothersome affairs of their children.

The god wore a cloak of pure stardust, dragging along behind them as they walked. Their golden heels click-clicked against the marble tiles of the floor, their many, many pieces of jewelry, custom made, chiming throughout the quiet room. Their hair, long and flowing, shimmered indigo under the brilliant lights of Adoryx's palace.

A few of their own, personal angels trailed at their heels, an air of superiority surrounding the smaller beings, knowing they were spoiled under their god's royalty.

An angel, blind, hung from the god's hip by their curved horns, like some morbid keychain. A stark reminder for everyone to stay in line.

Abaddon and Luvrina stood at the heels of their own god, at attention, staring up in awe, dwarfed by the sheer size and aura of their almighty Saturna.

"Adoryx," Saturna spoke softly, but with intention as they approached the other god, large hand settling on the small of Adoryx's back. A small, gentle smile lit up their usually stern face. "It's been too long, my child, why don't you visit me? You know you are always welcome in my home."

Abaddon felt themself tense with the giant so close, now. Instinctively, their hand reached out, grasping for Luvrina's in an attempt to find comfort and security.

"It's okay, " Luvrina whispered, squeezing their twin's hand in their own. They stepped closer to Abaddon, pressing their shoulder into the other's, glancing at them and offering a reassuring, warm smile.

"They're scarier, up close..." Abaddon replied, their wings fluttering anxiously as they continued to stare up at the two gods conversing. They couldn't hold back a quiet curse under their breath, their next words as quiet as they could manage. "I knew they'd be big, but-- And look at that angel they have with them! I didn't know the rumors were--"

"Abby, ssh..." Luvrina attempted to shush them, but it was in vain as their conversation caught the attention of the subject in question.

All three of Saturna's dark, intense eyes glimpsed down, making Abaddon's whole body feel rigid with panic, their blood running cold.

"Are your seraphs usually so talkative?" Saturna said bluntly, face stern again, almost annoyed.

The gaggle of Saturna's angels only giggled in the two's direction, faces lit up with delight at the prospect of their god lashing out punishment.

"No, of course not, my Saturna," even Adoryx seemed nervous now, but they played it off, laughing easily like they always did, "I'm sure they're only excited! It's so rare to see you in person these days!"

"Behave, you two, no whispering..." Adoryx gently chastised the two angels, this seeming to satisfy Saturna. They hummed quietly, their cold gaze lifting, softening again as they turned their attention back to the god of love.

Abaddon and Luvrina both exhaled a shaky breath, still squeezing each other's hands. They exchanged relieved, but worried glances. A few of Saturna's angels made faces in Abaddon's general direction, making their eye twitch, but they held their tongue.

"You're much too soft on your angels, Adoryx. It would do you well to discipline them," Saturna grazed a loving, but firm hand up Adoryx's back, pulling them close, "Now, come, I have much to discuss with you..."

I feel like... in the beginning, Saturna and Adoryx were genuine friends. companions. on the same level. equals. (kinda... Saturna is still their creator after all).

but then things changed. Saturna's powers grew. the earth grew. the realm grew. they had so many creations, so many subjects to overlook. so many things on their mind. Saturna changed, most of all.

they became controlling. jealous. snapping at anyone who dared to defy them. lashing out cruel punishment. while Saturna forever held a soft spot for Adoryx, this didn't stop Adoryx from becoming cautious around them. turning a blind eye to their Maker's injustices, but still wary nonetheless.

their dynamic changed from friends to a ruler and a loyal subject. and I find that tragic.

My name is Lea, aka. @polar-stars and this blog is meant for a bunch of OCs of mine all related to a rather big Multiverse (I think). I don’t think I will ever get this rather big and grand story written in all honesty, but I hope I can still spark a bit of interest in this story. 

The protagonist is named Silvery Twinkle. She’s half Angel, half Multiwitch (I will explain that further a bit later). Silvery is the daughter of the legendary Multiwitch Galaxina and from a young age on, expected to fill in her footsteps. She still has a lot to learn although and just begun her witch training. 

At the same time, there’s Silvery’s cousin Adrianna Saturna. A half Demon and half Multiwitch, who she is expected to take down. And vice versa.
