This creation came from an mandala book that inspire me to create my own octopus mandala painting. At first I tried various pencil sketches and play with circles and squiggly lines to feel what I wanted to see. Eventually alot of happy accidents happen and the painting took a life on it's own. I decided to keep the painting simple in the background and give the blues and the arms of the octopus to stand out and dominate the subject.

Mahi-Mahi is the fish so nice they named it twice! While this once fresh joke has grown stale from overuse, that does not make the sentiment any less true. Totally Random Non-Fiction Tuesday

Ah, cephalopods (squid, cuttlefish, octopus). I guess that for the longest times they weren’t thought to be as smart as mammals or even as birds. But, duh, I mean, when in captivity, they’re saucy little (or big) creatures. Not only can they distinguish between us crazy human beings, but, apparently they can figure out how to turn off lightbulbs, ooh, and, go to different, neighboring tanks for food (oops… heh).

This book was packed with all sorts of info, from the beginning of ‘the mind’ in the oceans, to the fact that octopus’ tentacles have neurons in them and can actually sort of think for themselves. Such a good book on some of the animals that don’t get quite as much press as their equal thinking brethren (A little bit due to their sliminess and the fact that a whole lot of humans never ever get to meet a cephalopod).
