It's been said a few times before, but Kuroko does indeed have a type.
Most point out that they have a darker complexion and a huge grin, but I'd like to point out how Kuroko keeps picking up guys born in August? It's wild because it's happened three times.
From top to bottom, you've got: Shigehiro Ogiwara (August 10), Daiki Aomine (August 31), and Taiga Kagami (August 2).

Also, check out this fanart (I wish I knew the artist's name).

And then there's this doujinshi panel from Uncomura.

Kuroko thinks he's slick. 😏

He says it himself right after, Kuroko reacts that way because he knows how it feels to stop loving basketball and to almost quit because of it.
But I think he's also probably wondering how many teams and players quit basketball after a crushing loss to Teiko? If Seiho was enough to break his senpais' spirits, Teiko must have destroyed the spirit of so many players Kuroko had no idea about.
He knows about Ogiwara but the situation was a little different, getting whipped didn't demoralized Ogiwara, he never gave up until the very end and he wouldn't have stopped playing basketball because of a defeat. He quit because the GoM toyed with them with their 111-11.
Tumblr media
“Having doubts about something you love can be painful” is something that resonates very strongly with me, it’s truly a devastating feeling.
Even though Himuro's harshness towards Kagami was related to basketball, Kagami still has a clear mind about it. He knows the problem isn't basketball itself, so he will never hate basketball because of that.

Tadaima, Okaeri Episode 6 Review - Visiting Masaki's Hometown
I noticed that out of all the episodes so far, this one is the first instance where Hikari takes a backseat. He’s usually a part of the family as his own character, solving family issues with his toddler logic. However, the conflict for this episode is something that adults can only resolve, hence why Hikari and Hinata are mainly background characters for this episode. I think it’s nice to see an episode giving insight to the parents for once, to be honest.
Tumblr media
It’s nice seeing Hiromu conflicted over Masaki wanting to return to his hometown as he knew that it always troubled his spouse even before they were married. What Hiromu wants is to not let Masaki get hurt, but he’s doing his best to not be too overbearing as he knows and respects Masaki as a strong-willed person. It really shows how much he loves and respects him. The birthday episode was a good way to show off Hiromu’s worries and admiration of his spouse. The way he was caressing his hand and telling him that he wouldn’t forgive anyone who hurts him was way too romantic. Hiromu is seriously raising the standards of ideal husbands and fathers.
Masaki’s cousin Kazuhiko is introduced here. He has a bit of an attitude problem yet he works for the hospitality industry. Sir, your attitude is unfitting for someone who works for this line of work. Anyways, Kazuhiko seems to be someone who cannot get over his own prejudices and biases out of his head. Ever since he was young, he was forced into the idea that Masaki was miserable and tragic, hence he was sort of forced to watch over him, which also lead to the verbal engagement. Given that he always believed that Masaki would always be miserable, the idea that he has a family and is currently happy cannot get to him. He’s being overprotective since Masaki married an alpha and had to endure even more prejudices due to his marriage to the point of being way too overbearing and that upsets Masaki. While there might be implications that he had feelings for Masaki, I see it more like Kazuhiko sees him as an obligation that he cannot get over. He’s obliged in his belief that Masaki will always be miserable no matter what life choices he makes and the idea of him being happy is something futile.
To play devil’s advocate, I also think Masaki was in the wrong for not contacting his relatives. I get that living in his hometown was suffocating for him and that not returning meant running away, but suddenly contacting family one day and telling them that you got married and have two kids would be a shock to anyone. Though, despite that, it’s still wrong to treat the sudden changes in Masaki’s life poorly. He’s happier with Hiromu than he was in his hometown. There’s no reason to continue treating Masaki as someone who can never be happy because of that. There’s also a reason why Masaki wanted to bring his family, especially his husband, after trying to hide them away from his relatives for so long. Hiromu was right to call out Kazuhiko on his BS.
Yuuki and Matsuo tag along in their trip. The reason they were invited was so that Masaki can show his parents that he is very happy now. He has a loving husband, two adorable kids and friends who accept him as he is. I’m amazed with how Yuuki got mad and yelled at Kazuhiko for his harsh words. Since his debut, Yuuki is reserved and shy around people so for him to muster up all that frustration and yell at him shows how much Masaki means to him as a friend. After all, he did say that he loves the Fujiyoshi family in Episode 3 and always wants them to be happy. The little MatsuYuu moments were cute too with Matsuo distracting Yuuki with snacks to him holding Yuuki back after his outburst.
The voice acting was really great here. Kazuhiko is voiced by Junta Terashima, who also voiced him in the drama CD. The way Kazuhiko was soft-spoken at first but then gradually raises his voice was really good. Yuuki’s voice actor Taku Yashiro really delivered that outburst so well. It’s so in-character with Yuuki with how his words are a bit shaky but still angry nonetheless. Morikawa also did a great job with the softer voice at first and then the way his tone became angrier at the end was good. This anime really has a great cast.
Speaking of which, there’s a little interesting detail you might not have noticed. Kazuhiko’s surname is Ogiwara. His father is Masaki’s uncle, who is his mother’s brother, yet Masaki’s maiden name was Ogiwara. If his mother had married a man, Masaki’s surname wouldn’t be Ogiwara, but the name that his mother would’ve taken since wives take the husbands surname in marriage; it’s only a rare occasion that a husband takes the wife’s surname. Since his maiden name was Ogiwara, this means that his mother’s surname was still Ogiwara even after marriage, meaning that she either married a man who took her surname, which is rare, especially for the countryside, or she married a woman who gave birth to Masaki and that woman took her surname. As someone who read the manga, mentions of Masaki having a father has never been brought upon. I once saw a post with the implications that Masaki’s parents are both female and it is implied here with how Kazuhiko says “Oba-san tachi”. Though, take my words with a grain of salt.
Unlike the conflict with Kouji, the conflict with Kazuhiko is a two-parter. I do like that it’s not resolved in just one episode. It isn’t a bad thing, but sometimes, it takes time to resolve issues between relatives. This time, Masaki has to muster up the courage to tell Kazuhiko that he’s happy now. I can’t wait to see how it’ll be played out next week. What are your thoughts on this episode?

Someday i'm going to make a post about AkaOgi because their discussion in the manga isn't talked about enough.
The way Ogiwara, a complete stranger for Akashi, was the only person to reach out and to seems to care about his well being ?? And just after Akashi obliterate his feelings and made him quite basketball.
Like i'm fully convince this has nothing to do with Kuroko, Akashi allowed the GoM to do the 111-11 idea because of his discussion with Ogiwara not to be a dick to Kuroko. Maybe because he was genuialy upset that a nobody would talk to him and care about him like that, maybe he saw it as 'he thinks i'm weak and need help'. Maybe Ogiwara loving basketball so much and being able to enjoy it made him jealous. No matter the reason Akashi wanted that kid to suffer.
Their conversation has so many layers and i need to reread it right now.
I need a scene post Winter cup where Akashi says sorry to Ogiwara (the whole gom should). We know that Ogiwara being the sunshine that he is doesn't hold any grudges toward them, because he knows them. Kuroko talked about them all the time, for Ogiwara they aren't complete strangers.
Anyway Ogiwara and Akashi bonding after the winter cup that's the vision

Tadaima, Okaeri Episode 8 Review - Hikari With A Dog And Relatives
Just a heads up, both the A-part and the B-part of this episode aren’t from the main story. The story with Hikari and Ran is from a doujinshi that the author wrote years ago. The story with the Fujiyoshi family meeting up with Kazuhiko and his father again is from a special booklet that came with the second drama CD. It’s nice that they decided to adapt obscure material that even normal manga readers have a hard time finding and reading.
Tumblr media
As a manga reader, I actually read the doujinshi with Hikari and Ran and I do admit that it’s my favorite and I’m so glad they adapted it. The author has a way to make Hikari upgrade in cuteness. First, he got a sibling, and now, he’s interacting with a dog. As a lover of cute anime babies and dogs, this was REALLY bad for my heart. I think the best part about this part was seeing Hikari and Hiromu interact. It’s really nice to see Hiromu being a gentle and wise father and giving advice to Hikari without berating him for being afraid. He’s really such a great dad. I also liked the part where he was explaining to Hikari about the things that scared him like Hikari not wanting to take a bath with Hiromu anymore, Hinata getting married and his kids finding him annoying—he’s afraid of them growing up; the way Hikari was patting his head was so adorable. I’m glad that Hikari managed to overcome his fear of large dogs. I have to say, Ran is rather well-behaved. I know Golden Retrievers are gentle dogs, but all dogs can be a bit overwhelming towards kids if not well-trained. Iwata did a great job raising him to not be scary towards kids. It’s also nice to see more neighbors and not just Yuuki and his mom all the time.
The second part of the story is rather peaceful in a way? Like, Kazuhiko shows up, but it does feel like it’s giving closure to the issues from the previous episodes and from their past. Since the previous episode was Kazuhiko mending with Masaki, this episode was Hiromu and Kazuhiko making peace with each other. I’m glad that Kazuhiko is seen in a more positive light now. He’s not a bad person, but someone with a biased outlook about Masaki. I can say that like Kouji, he’s just flawed and it makes him rather human for it. I’m glad that this family reunion of sorts is more focused on Hiromu and Kazuhiko because it’s like a parallel of Masaki getting along with his in-laws in a way.  I liked the part where a childhood picture of Masaki is shown and Hiromu points out how much Hinata looks like Masaki as a kid, to which Kazuhiko agrees. Hiromu doesn’t hate Kazuhiko; he just likes to tease him a lot and is just a jealous dad whenever Hikari talks about someone other than his family. Masaki’s uncle who also happens to be Kazuhiko’s father, was really cute. He’s super chill and loves his grandnephew a lot. It’s still unknown which side of the family he belongs to as we don’t even know if Masaki has two moms or if he has a mom or a dad; I do think that he has two moms. Besides, the mom that’s always appearing in his flashback has dark hair which is what the uncle has.
There’s a nice Matsuo and Yuuki segment in the middle of the second part of the episode. Yuuki contemplates about marriage. He thinks it’s a complicated process after witnessing the tension between Hiromu and Masaki’s in-laws and relatives. Despite that, he wants to get close to Matsuo’s family because he thinks it’d be beneficial to learn and get to know about the family of someone he cares about. Oh ho ho, Yuuki, you’re going to meet your future in-laws unknowingly. A glimpse of Matsuo’s family is shown. He has parents and younger twin brothers. The Matsuo family is an all-male Alpha family with the parents having a ten-year age gap with each other; his ‘mom’ is the older one. The author originally wanted them to appear in Volume 3, the next part of the story that will start next week, but they scrapped the idea. The younger brothers will appear soon. Judging from the pacing, they should appear in Episode 10. The parents and the brothers apparently have the same personality, hence why Matsuo is the way he is.
The ending shows a new baby and I’m super excited because that kid, Michiru, is super adorable—as cute as Hikari and Hinata. If you were waiting to see if Hikari would make a friend his age, you just have to wait next week for the upcoming cuteness. I’m going to prepare myself. What are your thoughts about this episode?
