It’s another beautiful rainy day today on the mountain.🌧🌳🏔🌫🌧 that meansthe rain collection bins have been put out for my future dye baths, and editing, editing & more editing! 📽 Can you believe, I have videos filmed to be released all the way through October?! 💪🏼 I have been on a productive wave for the last couple weeks, filming, creating, and feeling really inspired. . . 🌸 sometimes it’s hard for me to get my mojo going, but when it hits, it’s like I HAVE to honour it and make, make, make! 🧶 Trying to have “artist” as my job title has been a a lot. It’s been heavy at times, discouraging, and stressful. Right now though, it feels right. It feels good. And it feels powerful. I hope you find your mojo today❤️. . A humble shade card -  Natural dye with Onion Peel

Crimson red or Indigo blue, textiles are spoilt for choices when getting themselves bathed in natural hues. Botanic or scientific names of the plants and trees may sound intimidating but the extraction of some rich tones or colours from these plants and herbs are familiar and inviting. Be it  madder root which gives excellent shades of red, pink  or The Marigold Flower, known to ooze a sunny yellow shade, these colour galore are truly vivid. A humble shade card of these natural dyes is surely way grounded than those of glossy synthetic ones.

To Dye For

Task: Dye strips of muslin in an onion dye bath and create a small weaving.

What better way to top off April than with a natural dye swap? With the all too familiar Easter egg dyeing ritual, we wanted to extend the tradition by creating our own dyes using onion skins. An extension to fiber arts, natural dyeing has been trending as of late & we are loving it! To begin, we had yellow in mind as the color for our natural dye. As we found, this layered veggie is more than just an instant trigger for some crocodile tears, rather, onion skin produces shades of gold, orange, and sand tones!

Our assignment was simple and open-ended. Ironically, it looks like Michelle made a mini version of Allie's! As you can see, our colors came out differently, yet share some common hues. We hope this motivates our followers to venture into the naturale ~ Threadfully Yours, A&M

Hey friends! It is Sunday Funday! I have a new crochet tutorial video out on my channel this morning, and I used all hand dyed yarn that I made myself with PLANTS! Look at this amazing colour! I made a natural dye from the dry skins of some yellow onions and shallots. It created this super beautiful orange🧡🧡🧡 if you see the crochet sampler there, it used to be #Bernat hamdicrafter cotton in white, but it took to the dye so well!!!
