More hospitals have allowed doulas to return to caring for families today and thus providing evidence based, physical and emotional support for new families. In a joint statement on 24 April 2020 by the College of Family Physicians, The Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, the Canadian Association of Midwives, the National Council of Aboriginal Midwives, and the Canadian Association of Perinatal and Women’s Health Nurses stated: As health care professionals who provide care during birth, we deeply regret the circumstances that have led to prohibiting support persons or partners from childbirth.
