Hierbij kan gedacht worden aan het afsluiten van contracten, het regelen van betalingen of het sturen van berichten. Deze toepassingen heten in het Ethereum netwerk dApps. 

Als jij nu een actie online uitvoert zoals het sturen van een DM op Instagram of het geld overmaken op de bank, dan gaat dat via de servers van Instagram of de betreffende bank. Het gaat dus via één centrale server. Bij Ethereum werkt dit anders. Als je een bericht stuurt in dApps gaat dit via allemaal decentrale computers die zijn aangesloten op het Ethereum-netwerk. Elke computer levert op deze manier een stukje aan het proces. Dit worden ook wel Smart contracts oftewel slimme contracten genoemd.

Wat is Ether?

Aan Ethereum zit een altcoin verbonden: Ether. Ether wordt gebruikt voor het betalen van transactiekosten en diensten op het Ethereum-netwerk. Deze Ether is dus nodig voor het maken van smart contracts.

Je kan ook Ether verdienen door jouw computer beschikbaar te stellen om een deel van dApp op te draaien. Daarnaast wordt Ether ook verhandelt op diverse crypto brokers en exchanges. De toekomst van Ethereum
