  . ﾟ * ｡ ･           “ you --- oh. ”   eyebrows raise just slightly in surprise.  she made her tea.  it’s thoughtful ;  the cup does something to comfort her.   (  it’s her favorite mug with her favorite tea fixed just right ----- dawn wonders just how closely barbara must’ve been watching her.  either that,  or she’s simply  has outstanding observational skills.  or is suddenly psychic.  but the latter isn’t nearly as plausible as the former.  )   

if it were up to her,  dawn wouldn’t even have anyone over right now,  but barbara had insisted she shouldn’t be alone.  a few close calls scattered here and there throughout a lifetime were enough to scare anyone ;  a few handfuls of close calls in one night were enough to traumatize ---- but dawn’s eerily calm disposition doesn’t seem to waver even after it all. 

 after a few sips,  she almost forgets the question.   “ oh.  sorry.  um, ”   what was it she needed again ?  oh,  rest.  yes.   “ could --- could you stay ?  for the night.  i’m beat. ”

                It was always the same nightmare. the day he lost his parents. The day he watched his life fall apart. He remembers the sound of the trapeze line SNAPPING, it RINGED in his ears while the fear in him felt like it was SUFFOCATING as he watched them fall, he heard their screams, their call for help that NEVER arrived, there was nothing he could do but stand there and BLAME himself for everything. It all felt so real as if he was living the incident all over again. 

                He tossed and turned in bed, UNAWARE that none of this was real, not until a familiar voice manages to bring him back to REALITY. Dick almost jumps out of bed as he gasps for air, DISORIENTED and drenched in sweat, he had barely slept for a couple of hours but he felt like he was stuck in bed for DAYS. It took him a while to process everything around him, and the first thing he sees was Barbara's CONCERNED expression. That's right he asked if he could spend the night over... Now look where that lead him.

Right. He remembered now. Zatanna did tell him she would be in this city. While he originally thought he’d be in and out he tried to limit his interactions with others.

John just didn’t expect to run into her, especially with the timing she had. But with a quick thought he realized this would work more in his favor. Maybe luck was on his side for once?

“Yes, well” he stopped and adjusted his coat mainly to hide his face just in case any cops came by.

“Might be in a bit of a bind, the law enforcement here is under the impression I’m an arsonist and I triggered their system. Attempting to lay low as it were” a quick glance behind her before back at her, a small smirk pulled at his lips before he knelt to her level. “say if i recall you’re good with computers aren’t you?”

Hospital

                  everything in her body hurts,  the kind of pain that goes bone-deep and settles there with no intention of letting up. it doesn’t really matter,  though,  because there’s a needle in her arm and ivy can’t focus on anything else.  she keeps her eyes closed to try and focus,  the metal still cold where it touches the inside of her arm because her body is not really any warmer than it and honestly ?  this would be fine if she remembered with a bit more clarity what happened for her to wake up in what is,  if the beeping she can hear all around her are any indication,  most definitely an hospital.  the idea of someone sliding a fucking needle in her arm while she’s unconscious is enough to make her panic,  just slightly,  just enough for her breathing to speed up  -  her free hand moving out of instinct to settle where her skin is pierced to try and pull it out.  her eyes open,  at the first yank,  and that’s when she realizes she’s not alone.

the surprise dulls the panic to a whisper at the back of her mind,  her fingers stilling on the needle as she meets a very sharp gaze.  “ —- I guess that’s staying in. ”  had it been anyone else,  pamela would have kept yanking on it til something gave,  but there’s something about the way the other is looking at her that calms her down instantly.

“  listen,  I know I was right in the middle of that explosion  —–  ”  because that much she remembers now,  with something to distract her from the triggering needle still stuck in her body,  “ but I was just looking for something.  wrong place,  wrong time kind of deal. ”

She awakes slowly, eyes easing as bright lights enter her view. For a second, a smile is on her face. An entire bed just for her, not a winner in the comfort category but the UV rays do more than any plush surface could. Eyes adjust to returning to the waking world and she spots a figure in the room. She blinks, adjusting to the glow of lights that surround her body. “Barbara?” she calls out. Kori pushes her hands against the light bed, bringing herself into an inclined position. “What are you doing here? How long was I out?”
