ALL THANKSGIVING TRIPS ARE OFFICIALLY CANCELED! ALL CURRENT INTERACTIONS SHOULD STOP NOW!

This is an emergency alert! Cotton Plant, Arkansas is officially on lockdown. A massive storm has just swept through the town, and everyone must stay put, exactly where they are until further notice. Strong winds have knocked over a near by cell tower, so you’ll notice that your cell phone is not currently working, but don’t worry, no matter where you are, there is an emergency supply kit.

Supply kits include, sleeping bags, pillows, blankets, water bottles, first aid kits, flashlights, and enough food to last until the lockdown is over. When the storm hit, residence of the town ran to the closest building to take shelter, so if your character is in a place they would not normally go, that’s okay. There will be no leaving these locations until further stated. 

This post applies to all players. Everyone will be involved in this plot, other than those who are currently on full hiatus, and will remain on full hiatus for the entirety of the event. Please note, all acceptances have been paused until the event is over, this includes fc/family changes.

Below you will find groups, please look through the groups to find your character(s) this is where they are located for the start of the event. The people in the group with them are the ONLY people they can interact with during THE START of the event. Paras, FTFs and dash convos with the people in your group are the only form of communication allowed during the start of this event.

Please be aware that there are over 100 characters in this group, we attempted to match people up in order to create an opportunity for new connections. If your character was left off the list (unless they are on hiatus), or two of your characters are in a group together, please let us know, otherwise, these groups are final. Any trips that were planned for Thanksgiving or during this time will need to take place after the lockdown is lifted. Stay tuned throughout the week for updates.

Please find your group(s) below, and make sure that any posts you make throughout the event have the tag that is included next to the location. Each location has power, but no cell service, no wifi, no phones. All locations also have an ample amount of food and water to last until the lockdown is lifted.

Please note: We know that many characters have pets, but for the purpose of this event please disregard pets, we don’t want characters to worry about their pet. The only exception is service animals which should be with the character, assume they have food and water, and can go outside a few times a day to use the bathroom.

Making this post is not only saddening to us, but honestly incredibly disappointing, and above all makes us feel ashamed to know that we have been a home for such hatred that has recently been brought to light. When Our Town was created, the intention behind the anonymity was to prevent drama and host a game that would hopefully be a fun and safe place for everybody, without out of character issues being involved.

For a little while now, we have been receiving complaints about out of character drama, that we have done all we can to try to stomp out, but it seems that, at this point, people are using the anonymity aspect for negativity, which was the exact opposite of our intention, and we feel responsible for not keeping the environment more of a safe and friendly one like initially intended.

What we can only describe as a group of bullies have led us to make the difficult decision for us to officially CLOSE THE GROUP. As admins, and as players ourselves who enjoy our characters and plots, we don’t want to do this, especially because the group is still 100+ characters strong and incredibly active, but we refuse to put any of that above the severity of bullying and rudeness. Since changing character limits and trying to simply talk to people like adults has done nothing, we feel this is our only option.

We will not be handing the group over to anybody, and while we would request nobody takes the anonymity idea for their own groups, we know we cannot stop anyone. However, we will strongly recommend not using it yourself, as this will obviously always be the outcome.

If you wish to continue to play your characters and play out your plots, that is entirely your prerogative, but we don’t want our names or aliases attached to this group anymore, and apologize deeply to the majority who have been nothing but wonderful this entire time. As usual, one small group has ruined it for everyone, and while they don’t really deserve our respect, we will respect their privacy by not naming any names, for the simple reason that we pride ourselves on anonymity and privacy, and will keep that until (and past) the very end.

There are a very, very small handful of people who know who the admins are, and we are hoping that you can show us the same curtsey by not divulging the information to anybody despite the group now being closed, just as we will keep your privacy intact, too.

Brielle Rose will be hosting an Anti-Thanksgiving dinner party this Saturday, 11/11 at 5pm. The party is pot luck, and while it is Anti-Thanksgiving, all food is allowed, including Thanksgiving dishes. Everyone is invited, please like this post if you are attending!

It has taken over a week, but officials have finally declared the town of Cotton Plant safe from the storm once more. You are now permitted to leave your holding locations and make your way, cautiously, back home.

There is slight damage to the town, with some buildings having suffered water damage, though houses and apartments are, for the most part, unaffected.

If you wish to have any kind of damage to your character’s home or business, please make sure you run this by us. We don’t want too many people to do this, so please consider that beforehand, and we do reserve the right to decline if too many people ask.

This is officially the end of the storm event! Thank you all for taking part; regular dash interactions may now resume (and your pets may exist again).

UPDATE: There has been damage caused by the storm to some of the structures around town. Emergency crews are headed to these locations to pick up the people in these locations as fast as they can, but for now stay put and remain calm. 

LIBRARY, COTTON PLANT MOTORS, GAS STATION - The roof is leaking, emergency crews will be with you as soon as possible. 

HOTEL BISTRO, HIGH TIMES, FIRE STATION, ALL STARS - Currently suffering water damage, emergency crews will be with you as soon as possible. 

Emergency crews are addressing the most urgent locations first and will be relocating residents when needed. These locations should except new residents to arrive shortly. 

SHEAR HEAVEN, POUR HOUSE CAFE - 4 children from an after school program, and their staff member will be arriving shortly. 

JUNIPER BERRY, POLICE STATION,  - 4 Members of the Cotton Plant High School Boys Basketball team will be arriving shortly. 

DOM’S GARAGE - 4 older women who are members of the Cotton Plant Knitting Club will be arriving shortly. 

CLOVE’S CIGAR SHOP, THYME PIECE - 4 middle aged men, dressed casually, but acting strangely will be arriving shortly. 

You’ll only know what’s happening at your location not in the rest of town. Please have your characters react accordingly, and feel free to discuss as a group in your OOC blogs how they will react to this news. If your group wasn’t mentioned, don’t worry, we didn’t forget about you.

We were not planning to sign back into this account, but we’re pleased that we did, as we have received an overwhelming amount of positive messages that we want to acknowledge and thank you all for from the bottom of our hearts. While we’re not going to respond to each individual message, your messages all had the same general content, and we want to let you all know how much we love and appreciate you too. For the most part, it was a privilege to run this group and to watch your characters and plots develop.

A second thing we seem to have been asked a lot about, both here at the main page and by the people who know us out of character, is whether this group belongs to us. It does not, though with an incredibly similar plot and general page layout, we can see why you’d think so. We’re actually a little hurt that this group was created with no credit to us or permission sought, as we said we wouldn’t be handing the group over, and other than the location, the group is almost an exact copy of Our Town (amusement park plot and all) and the pages (application, masterlist, rules just to name a few) remind us strongly of ours. We can promise we are not the admins there though, for all of those who have asked. We did think people had more respect for us than to do that.

This will be our last time signing in here, but once more, thank you all for your kind and wonderful messages, and we hope you all have a safe and amazing holiday season, whether you celebrate or not, and that your 2018 is everything you deserve.

Issues regarding Selena Gomez and both cultural appropriation and racism have been brought to our attention, and due to this we have been asked to ban Selena as a face claim. We have added her to the list, and have spoken with the player behind our current Selena character, who has opted to drop their role rather than pick a new face claim.

As this is not an isolated incident, especially recently, in which we have allowed face claims that neither us nor the players have known to be problematic, we have found and checked various lists, as well as our masterlist, and made sure we do not have any others that may be problematic.

We take these issues seriously, but in the same token we don’t like having to make an established character change their face claim or drop their role, so we are hoping to stay on top of this issue more carefully going forward, and apologize to anyone affected for any inconvenience.
