I have so many feelings about the big Netflix show blowing up that are complex and knotty and nuanced but really the top level is I don’t think society as a whole is empathetic enough for a story like this now.

#full disclosure I was around in 2012 when this stuff was occurring #not directly close to it but it’s a small world honestly we all know each other #and I think he’s an excellent excellent storyteller who is not afraid of nuance and to be a complex person himself #he’s not claiming to be a hero or morally perfect he never was #but the response to this makes me almost think he shouldn’t have made it #not because I don’t think it’s a profoundly brilliant thing because I do #I always did #I loved the original monologue #but because people can’t fucking help themselves #why are you trying to find the real people in a witch hunt #why are you trying to discredit the art because the maker isn’t morally perfect when that’s literally the point of him putting the story #out into the world like. anybody trying to true crime this shit is morally bankrupt to me #why are you putting real peoples lives in danger like this?
