wrote up a thing in a discord message summarizing sovi and the polucule's having their three hatchlings so ill post it here too

it deals with gestational stuff and mentions both hatchling-making (in vague terms) and what amounts to a miscarriage so fair warning ⚠️

So in no-loop, Sovi did their exploring and after maybe 10 or so years managed the entire system with all the data OWV could want from them and then some, juuust managing to bring Feldspar home near the very end and then deciding that was enough risking their life and they wanted to move on to raising hatchlings like they'd always planned. So they came home for good and settled into the hatchery, allowing Gneiss and Rutile to go on very light volunteering in their old ages. (I haven't decided if Felds recovers well enough to work but if they do, they'd be right there with Sovi.)

(In post-loop, Sovi immediately retires from Travelling, but it takes them a long time to recover from the Events, so the decade-ish before working with hatchlings full-time and being ready for one of their own matches up well enough to leave it at that (mostly because I haven't thought about it much lol).)

Sovi and Gabbro don't exactly Try during this time, but they've worked thru their feelings surrounding their barren egg from before Sovi started training for space, and they're ready, so they stop Not Trying. It takes a second because Gabbro is still a Traveller and things just don't line up for a while (I haven't decided my hcs for how fertility works yet so I'm just working off human convention there), but around the time Sovi is comfortable in the hatchery they start getting morning sickness. They're both low-key worried about a repeat, but the egg is fine and Agate comes out healthy and fat ❤️ They look like Gabbs but their personality aligns with Sovi more heehee

I don't think the gestation process is particularly hard on Hearthians, not like humans, so Sovs bounces back like a champ, and by the time Agate is a few months old, they're already planning (and cooing over) the idea of carrying once for each of their partners. Riebeck and Marl like the idea a lot! But for health reasons it's important to know your bio parents, so the 'cule decides going in order of when they got together works. And so, Sovi and Rie start actively trying.

It... takes a discouragingly long time, mostly because despite eventually managing to carry three babs, Sovi isn't all that fertile. I had the idea of them having a couple more barren eggs but I think that's too much trauma even for me, so no. They just don't take for a few years, but when they do, little Olivine finally hatches with Rie's 4 fingers and the grumpiest face you can imagine.

Marl's takes the shortest time out of all of them; they start trying again when Oli is about a year old and due to their. frequency. it only takes a few months for Sovi to start feeling that morning sickness again. This one is a bit hard on them, Sovi and the baby both, but Breccia hatches fighting and is a little whirlwind demon of a hatchling <33 But after a gestation like that, the polycule decides thats enough and they won't risk another. They're all getting older and all. But they have three healthy and happy hatchlings yayyy ^^,

Sovi had planned their first solo launch a week before it actually happened. Esker visit first, of course, per tradition! But, they knew Riebeck would be anxious about BH's black hole, so they wanted to check in with them and see if their company would help. Then, whatever they felt like. It was gonna be a good time, a great first foray into the Wilds, and they'd get to Real Science after a few days enjoying the freedom.

I'm planning on doing a few more of these, maybe not Sovi's entire story, but some of the more important bits. Definitely not all fluffy stuff like this (Sovi is really gonna lose it at points) but I'm not so good at drawing negative emotions so it's gonna be a challenge 💪

Sovi was a tiny teen and just light enough for even Hornfels to carry them around... which was handy since they take after H in the work until you drop sense AND the living in the museum sense.
