Tbh? I do not think their upbringing was bad whatsoever. I like to think that their parents were very caring and kind, if anything they’re the figures Asher took the most inspiration from when he decided to start taking care of Jekyll as if the boy were his own. WHICH IS. YEAH I CAN PRETEND TO BE NORMAL ABOUT THAT.

Grace’s reasoning for running away was mostly out of fear, I think. Maybe she had faith in her parents’ love, but was more worried about what would happen to their family’s reputation as a whole if word somehow got out that she was in love with another woman (this whole reputation thing was probably—and unfortunately—already a fragile topic due to the fact that they are Jewish). Their situation must be a little bit complicated, but Grace was never estranged by family in that sense. She’ll definitely rekindle that bond once she is ready, and everyone is waiting for her with open arms.
