#p4 timeloop au

so i had an idea for a persona 4 au a while back...

and i ended up basically infodumping it onto discord. it’s a timeloop au [of sorts!!!] featuring a whole lotta crazy timeline shit & gay people !! i might write a fic of this au Sometime if i even get around do doing so. hopefully. we’ll never know... all of the infodump is below the cut, just for those who dont want to be spoiled Ig. even tho this is a 10+ y/o game Lol. i hope it all makes sense! >:] also, a note before you continue: everything is written w/ a “s” -> “z” typing quirk. why do i not do that on tumblr? to be professional, Duh. just an fyi!

So I was thinking about things to ramble about and then I realized. @i-just-wanna-be-called-sparkle and I discussed a whole AU for P4/P4G that we've just named "Timeloop AU" which is like... Directly to the point.

After finishing games, I have a reoccurring thought for a while - what if the MC of said game was completely aware of every time you did New Game+? So I'd thought of Narukami to this, and like... Wow it is angsty.

It went from him not only being aware of the fact that he's being thrown into the same cycle once again, but it taking a huge toll on his mental health, too. The more resets, the more memory loss he experiences on a daily basis - this results in forgetting the dates in which people die inside the tv. And what happens after that? Igor sends you back to the week before, which is still considered a "loop" that effects Narukami's state.

Eventually we decided that not only Narukami is effected by this. Namatame and Adachi are, too - and this is because of Izanami. Izanami is the one to bestow power to these three, including the ability to re-experience the game each time the player restarts. Although the trio is... Kinda borderlining on breaking the 4th wall, here, they're not exclusively conscious enough to actually stop the loop themselves. Of course, that could always change in future timeloops. Anything could. So, maybe Adachi wouldn't kill, or maybe Namatame would just stay at home and never go out.....

There's a TON of possibilities. And man I wanna name them all off but I want to introduce this AU without ranting for 100 years.

one big factor of the reincarnation au is the lack of communication between minato/yu/akira and his teams. telling his current team that he'll reincarnate into a different person would sound crazy, but they would believe him eventually. not telling causes issues. like if Yu dropped dead between p4 and p5 for the reincarnation and they grieve because they didn't know and get pissed when they find out.

Yu: “I could tell them that I’m going to die and reincarnate”

Yu: “…or I could keep that to myself so as to not put unnecessary stress on them and also to avoid spurring them into an ultimately fruitless endeavor to keep me alive :)))”

But yeah, as understandable as it is for Minato/Yu/Akira to not mention the whole reincarnation thing (esp. in a setting where NG+ timeloops apply), his past teammates are definitely varying levels of ticked off at him for not telling them. His CURRENT teammates are also kinda upset at not being told, too, though they’re more likely to set it aside in favor of figuring out how to keep their leader from dying again. (Cue some odd and frankly wild schemes to do so, especially when his former teammates join in on the planning.)
