JADE: they did not actually destroy the sun. trust me, i would know if it was gone. now that i know what i know, it was kind of silly of us to think it would ever be destroyed...

JADE: and as it happens, rose and dave are not dead either! i have received very reliable reports that they survived

JOHN: oh man, that's great!

JOHN: i mean, i'm not sure how not blowing up the sun qualifies as a successful mission, since that was kind of the whole idea, but at this point i don't really care. i'm just happy to hear they're ok.

JADE: it will all be more clear soon

Spain has been experimenting with different printing techniques in recent years. The 2018 €1.35 stamp honoring inventor Cosme Garcia Saez is printed on rubber, and netting was applied to the 2019 €1.50 Euroleague Basketball Final Four Tournament stamp.

A 2018 commemorative honoring Alvaro de Mendana y Neira, the discoverer of the Solomon Islands and Marquesas Islands, is printed on wood veneer with self-adhesive backing (Scott 4293). And inventor Cosme Garcia Saez, who is credited with creating the inked handstamp for the post office among other things, is honored on a stamp that resembles a handstamp and is printed on rubber (4297).

For the 2019 Euroleague Basketball commemorative (Scott 4360), string netting was applied to the printed stamp to make it look like the ball is going through the net. I think it turned out well and looks nice in person.

Other stamps have foil added or special finishes. To see these and other types of techniques used, check out the pages for Spain in the Scott catalog. The real treasure for collectors would be finding in-period usages for any of these stamps.

Mucho se habla sobre los enchufes en los departamentos universitarios. Se dice que cuando una plaza sale a concurso, está dada de antemano al candidato de la casa, y que resulta imposible para un forastero acceder a ella, por elevados que sean sus méritos. Pero ¿es cierto? Vamos a comprobarlo usando la estadística. Tomemos como referencia la última convocatoria a profesores ayudantes doctores de la Universidad de Sevilla docentes.us.es/index.php?page=comun/evento_leer&id=4297 y la última convocatoria del mismo tipo de la Universidad de Salamanca www.usal.es/convocatoria-2018dldmd31

Comencemos con Salamanca. En el momento de escribir este artículo, han salido 4 de las plazas sacadas a concurso. Veamos quiénes las han obtenido:

-Historia Medieval: Hay 6 candidatos. La obtiene María Gajete, que recibe 2 puntos sobre 2 en el apartado "promoción profesional" (es decir, que ya estaba dentro del Departamento en el momento de sacarse la convocatoria) www.usal.es/files/propuesta_db2604.pdf

-Derecho Constitucional. Hay 2 candidatos. La obtiene Leo Brust, que era profesor asociado del Departamento, en detrimento del candidato forastero www.usal.es/files/propuesta_db6125.pdf

Por tanto, vemos que en Salamanca el 100% de las plazas ofertadas hasta ahora se las queda el candidato de la casa.

-Derecho Constitucional. Nos presentamos 6 candidatos. -Métodos de Investigación. Se presentan VEINTIUN candidatos para 3 plazas. Las obtienen Inmaculada Martínez (del Departamento investigacion.us.es/sisius/sis_showpub.php?idpers=16776) , Luisa Vega (profesora del Departamento www.us.es/acerca/directorio/ppdi/personal_8735 ) y Sara Conde (MILAGROSAMENTE parece que esta chica es de la Universidad de Huelva).

Por tanto, en el caso de Sevilla vemos que de 14 plazas, 11 se dan a candidatos de la casa y sólo 3 a forasteros (sin perjuicio de que dichos forasteros pudiesen tener algún tipo de vinculación con la universidad, si bien por internet no la he detectado). El 78.57% de las plazas quedan en familia, y sólo el 21.43% se otorgan a gente de fuera.

Como veréis, las listas de adjudicación de plazas no acaban donde yo lo he dejado, sino que siguen más abajo. Según he calculado, si tenemos en cuenta el resto de plazas el porcentaje de ellas que se otorgan a gente del Departamento sube al 86.37%, pero no voy a copiaros los resultados uno por uno para no volver el artículo infinito y disuadir con ello de abrirlo a sus potenciales lectores.

¿Existe la endogamia en la universidad? Las matemáticas hablan por sí solas. Yo seguiré concursando a las plazas de mi especialidad que sigan saliendo, esperando que, mientras se tramitan, el candidato de la casa reciba una oferta mejor en otra parte y renuncie, ya que ésa es (prácticamente) la única posibilidad real que tiene un forastero de entrar en un Departamento ajeno.
