Palawander

It was the last week of December. It was rainy,windy, and cool without a hint of the scorching heat of the sun. The plane touches down in the airport of Puerto Princesa in Palawan. Little did I know that I would actually enjoy this trip to an unfamiliar place.

From the airport, despite being quite tired, we drove 6 hours  to El Nido in order to go Island hopping. El Nido is well known for its 45 islands that boast of their fine sand and crystal clear waters. Despite our tour package only covering 5 islands in the area, the experience was just as pleasant. Clean blue water, lush greenery, and astonishing rock formations can be seen all throughout the lagoons and the islands.

Palawan is also known for its capital city, Puerto Princesa. Puerto Princesa is vastly different from El Nido while also retaining its natural beauty. It's more of a city catering to tourism more than anything. We booked a city tour and a ride to one of the seven wonders of the world. The Underground River.

The wait was long though, so we decided to go off on another adventure first while waiting for our turn. We went Hiking,zip lining, rafting, buying trinkets, and many more but that wasn't enough for us despite its beauty.

The most notable part of the trip would be the Underground River Tour which showed us various sections of the caves and piles of bat poop called guano which helps the fragile ecosystem within the cave systems to thrive. I learned a lot even if my nostrils were assaulted by the pungent smell of the bat feces and musty water. It was worth it.

Before we left Palawan, I decided to challenge myself. I ate a Tamilok, a woodworm. I usually avoid things out of my comfort zone but this trip change me and my perspective. Truly something new.
