In Sonia Front's article "Post-Apocalyptic Stress Disorder in The Leftovers" she describes how modern apocalyptic shows tend to revolve around the aftermath of an unexplainable tragedy. However Into the Night differs from this because the whole season is them trying to survive the apocalypse. Although, they are still fighting to survive themselves the fact that they left behind their families and friends causes them to be burdened with survivor’s guilt as “they are living reminders of what happened”(262). This can be seen in episode 6 of the series, where while they are trying to escape to an underground bunker there is a tense interaction between Laura and Terenzio, where he reminds her that she would be dead if it wasn’t for him. She retors back that maybe she would have rather died with her family than be where she is right now. Before she said that Terenzio had been very argumentative but then he falls silent. The way the shows remain very close up on their faces and in the moving car gives it a claustrophobic feel and underscores the severity of the situation and how far they are from their peaceand loved ones. The uncomftable silence and awkward glances that follows her statement reveals that they all feel the same to an extent. @theuncannyprofessoro
