Whistler

Whistler é uma pequena cidade, que encanta logo na chegada. Ela abriga as montanhas Whistler (fotos acima) e Blackcomb (foto abaixo), que juntas formam uma das maiores estações de esqui da América do Norte.

A Peak 2 Peak Gôndola liga os picos das montanhas Whistler e Blackcomb. A distância entre as duas estações é de 4,4 km e o trajeto tem duração de onze minutos. Por mim, podia demorar mais, pois a vista do vale, dos pinheiros e das montanhas é incansável.

O centro, Whistler Village, fica na base das montanhas e é bem turísticos. É bem gostoso passear pelo calçadão e observar a arquitetura alpina dos restaurantes, cafés, lojas e hotéis.

Em um desses passeios chegamos ao Whistler Olympic Plaza, um espaço com pista de patinação no gelo a céu aberto e vista para os aneis olímpicos (a cidade foi sede dos Jogos Olímpicos de Inverno em 2010). Eu até tentei dar umas voltinhas, mas não é muito fácil não.

A uma hora de caminhada do centro para o norte, passando por parques e riozinhos com neve e semi congelados, chegamos ao Green Lake, o maior lago da cidade que, apesar de não estar com a cor azul turquesa (ela fica assim no final do inverno quando a água das geleiras derretem) tem uma vista linda com as montanhas ao fundo.

Comer e beber

De novo, o primeiro lugar que fomos quando chegamos em uma cidade foi uma cervejaria: dessa vez na Coast Mountain. No copo a deliciosa Woodnutt Brown Ale, uma cerveja com notas de caramelo, chocolate e café, super equilibrada, perfeita para o clima e que ainda tem um rótulo lindo.

Afastado um pouco do centro turístico, o tap room, com vista para a sala de brassagem, é pequenininho e bem movimentado. Os rótulos estão todos relacionados às montanhas e aos animais nativos e possuem uma arte bem legal.

Bebendo uma Pale Ale da Stanley Park Brewing no bar mais alto de Whistler, o Seppos, a cerca de 1840 metros de altura!
