why is it that if i talk to someone under 40 from any part of the us or canada they'll likely have (or at least easily code-switch to) a generic californian accent but the uk is so small and yet people from different regions and socioeconomic backgrounds can have such distinct accents

#like my georgian (the us state) cousins and texan roommate have barely noticeable southern accents?#people do sometimes talk in distinct accents even young ppl but idk it seems way more pronounced in the uk #txt #like the most noticeably different accent than “standard” english that i hear regularly here is aave #maybe sociolects are more persistent than dialects? hence why there r so many london accents #but idk if that would make sense #oh i also have texan cousins i just haven't seen them in a while
