Q3 Roundup, Concerning Q4, and Other News
Greetings, Citizens of the Universe!
Hope you’ve had a good summer and having a good autumn. Quite a bit has happened since the last roundup, both on the blog and in the J-pop world, so let’s cut to the chase:
Q3 Roundup
Hello! Project
On the Hello! Project side, we’ve had quite a bit of content here.
We started off the quarter with a Ping Pong Pinpoint news digest.
As for the reviews, we gave the spotlight to v-u-den (Tomboyish Ponies in Paradise), Berryz Koubou (War Cry of Friendship WAO! and We Can’t Live Without You (But We Must)), Taiyou to Ciscomoon (Spacey La Ta Ta), and GAM (Thanks for Tonight!)
At the end of the grand month of August, we transitioned into September (and autumn) with a small news post.
After that came the 2018 Ice Fairy Day post, the final M3 Anniversary review (Sgt. Pepper’s Wonderful Hearts Club Band), and the Q3 Anniversary Review Vote winner (C-uties Playing Handball in O-Edo).
Outside Hello! Project
As noted on the announcement post, the big event for Q3 was Magic Metal Meteora, celebrating the Kawaii Metal/Alternative Idol scene.
The first two posts were dedicated to the “progenitors” of the scene, BABYMETAL (BABYMETAL Resistance) and BiS (and BiSH) (Brand-new idols Are WACK). The next posts were dedicated to acts I myself found interesting, representing the impact the aforementioned groups had: LADYBABY (The Idols Possibly Known As LADYBABY) and DEADLIFT LOLITA (They Lift: The Strongest Idols (That Aren’t Ice Fairies)).
Concerning Q4
Q3 was an amazing busy and exhausting time for me (I blame the BiS/H focus post. I felt years being taken out of my life during production). Either way, the show must go on.
Hello! Project released some stuff (and will be releasing stuff), a Musume is graduating (get those graduation messages in for that fan project!), a Country Girl joined a college idol group, and the world just keeps on turning.
There’s also the fact that in the midst of celebrating H!P’s 20 years of spectacle, there was one year that was oddly left out: 2018! My intention is to remedy that by finally covering those releases, in addition to the remaining years (2001, 2002, 2005, 2009, 2012).
Wish me luck and pray for my sanity!
Momusu M3 Grand Prix + Q4 Anniversary Vote
If you’ve been keeping up with the Momusu M3 Grand Prix, then you’d know that the Second Round was restarted in July and concluded in early September.
The Third Round began immediately afterwards and I am pleased to report that barring some tie- and weather-related hiccups, things went rather smoothly and we are now in the Fourth Round!
Speaking of which, the Q4 Anniversary Vote is now in normal mode as of this post! Voting ends November 29th.
Regardless of what happens, thank you very much for your support. Please continue to support M3 and the idols that inspire it.
--Magi-Kat

Q1 & Q2 Roundups + Q3 Schedule Announcement
Greetings, Citizens of the Universe!
Sorry it's been so long since a post roundup. I... simply kept forgetting, in the midst of the chaos and fatigue. (However, one big reason for my absentmindedness is that I’ve been preparing for the future!)
Roundups for Q1 & Q2
Q3 Schedule announcement! (The first post will go live on July 19!)
Anyway, we have a lot to cover so let's go!
Q1
Pump Up a Thank You, Beautiful Dreamers!!! - To celebrate the blog getting 10,000 views, I reviewed some MVs from Up Up Girls (Kakko Kari). This was rather timely as two members (Sengoku Minami and Sato Akari) had graduated in September 2017.
M3 Project Announcement: 20 Years of Fun - As part of the 20th anniversary festivities, I announced some fun poll-oriented projects designed to inject some fun and festivity to the air.
At the time of this writing/publication, the Anniversary Review Vote is in its third iteration while the Momusu M3 Grand Prix is suffering from sophomore slump.
Ping Pong Pinpoint, January 2018 Edition: Beginnings and Endings Galore - A digest of minor news from the last quarter of 2017 all the way up to the post’s publishing in mid-late January 2018.
Momusu M3 Grand Prix: Rounding out the Firsts - An update on the first round of the Momusu M3 Grand Prix
C-ute Memorial Survey: The Results Show - The obligatory memorial survey for legendary C-uties made its splash.
Hey Brother, Ho Brother! Nice Rider, Go Rider! - Speaking of H!P Kids, in one of three M3 10th Anniversary Reviews for 2018 (four if you count the Charisma Kirei review from the year before), the Berryz get spotlighted with their famous cover of Dschinghis Khan’s, well, Dschinghis Khan.
Roles in the Polls That Shake Up Everyone’s Souls - The results of the first round of the Momusu M3 Grand Prix and the Q1 Anniversary Review Vote, which led to...
Lovely Riding into the Sunset - ...this winning review spotlighting Buono’s sophomore single (which didn’t suffer from sophomore slump).
Q2
Strap in, folks. This one’s been a busy one for Magi-Kat...
Wahahaha~! Youth’s Passionate Journey Serenade - The first of many H!P 20th Anniversary reviews features Mano Erina's Seishun no Serenade as the 2011 representative. (On that note, CONGRATULATIONS to Manoeri on her wedding!)
PON This WAY WAY WAY -  The first #MemeMusicMonday review of #MemeMay, featuring Kyary Pamyu Pamyu's psychedelic PON PON PON.
CONGRATULATIONS on Your Happy Summer Wedding! - The H!P 20th Anniversary celebrations continue with Morning Musume's Happy Summer Wedding representing 2000. (On that note, didn't a royal wedding happen around this time?)
“What Basic Premises Inform Your Blog?” A 2017 Perspective - A revamped version of the questionnaire post that is perfect for anyone who stumbled onto the blog.
A Leafy Explosion of YATTA! - The second #MemeMusicMonday in #MemeMay brought us green leaves, courtesy of Happa-tai's YATTA!
A Melon-Flavored Carelessly Whispered Chance of LOVE - Melon Kinenbi carry the torch for the H!P celebrations as they represent my gateway year of 2003.
Picking, Poking And Peeking at PPAP - Pikotaro brings the memes in the third #MemeMusicMonday in #MemeMay.
Smile for a Summer Night - Morning Musume represent Hello! Project's birth year of 1998 with their sophomore major single (and debut single of the 2nd Gen). Wait, wasn't their anniversary year last year?!
Help a Blogger Out: A TLS Survey, MorniMete Style 2018 - Similar to the “What Basic Premises Inform Your Blog?” questionnaire, another updated primer to M3 is unveiled.
Revenge of the Twitter Questionnaire Meme – Part 1 - I made good on my word from five months before....
Declarative Nonsense from the GAL-o - #MemeMay ends where it began. Its entire reason for existence? An excuse to properly review an early 2000s J-hip hop song that was played during a WVGCW pre-show -- and the accompanying meme-tastic MV that was done by then-future Bob Team Epic artists. I am NOT making this up! (That and they all were considered as April Fools ideas and given my schedule, May was the nearest time I can do it uninterrupted and in season.)
Cabbage Patch FEELS - May gets wrapped up on the Hello! Project end with Peaberry's major single representing 2013. (Fans of Tsubaki Factory may recognize this tune ;))
They’re Blue, Ba Da Dee Ba Da Di - One of the winning topics of the Q2 Anniversary Review Vote, Morning Musume's Resonant Blue takes the center stage and paints it a resounding blue...
Extra Strong Kisses of Hardcore Love - ...before co-winner Buono! lightens it up with passionate kisses. A-i-shi-te-ru
A Wordless “I LOVE YOU”: A Sandwiched Farewell to V-U-Den - In the midst of what was supposed to be break time, a surprise M3 10th Anniversary Review shows itself with v-u-den's grand finale.
Q3
I had originally planned to make a video essentially doing the below and posting it on June 19th, but the unsteady social climate made me uneasy about it.
(Plus, I needed to find a way to do something about the gridlock in the Momusu M3 Grand Prix in the least poll fatigue-inducing way possible. I may just roll virtual dice/use Random Pickers to pick the winners, but that’d go against the very spirit of the whole thing....)
Ping Pong Pinpoint, July 2018 Edition (July 19, 2018) - This was originally meant to be part of Q2, but due to the Anniversary Review Vote tie, I moved it to Q3.
Tomboyish Ponies in Paradise (August 2, 2018) - The H!P 20th Anniversary celebrations in Q3 commence with v-u-den's Jaja Uma Paradise representing 2007.
War Cry of Friendship WAO! (August 9, 2018) - The H!P 20th Anniversary celebrations continue with Berryz Koubou's Otakebi Boy WAO! / Tomodachi wa Tomodachi Nanda! representing 2010.
We Can’t Live Without You (But We Must) (August 16, 2018) - Similar to the previous post, the Berryz take the spotlight in the anniversary festivities, representing 2004 with their debut single Anata Nashide wa Ikite Yukenai.
Spacey La Ta Ta (August 23, 2018) - The H!P 20th Anniversary celebrations have us party like it's 1999 with Taiyo to Ciscomoon's Uchuu de La Ta Ta.
Thanks for Tonight! (August 30, 2018) - The H!P 20th Anniversary celebrations bring us to 2006 with Thanks! to GAM.
Title TBA (September 6, 2018) - Content to be determined.
Sgt. Pepper's Wonderful Hearts Club Band (ETA: September 10, 2018) - The final M3 10th Anniversary post of 2018 takes us down as we go to Morning Musume's strawberry fields with Pepper Keibu.
Q3 Anniversary Vote Winner (September 13, 2018) (voting in progress! - Ends August 31, 2018 at 15:00 UTC / 11:00am EDT)
The special event for Q3, Magic Metal Meteora, will be announced on July 20th!
Anyway, please look forward to these posts... and pray for my sanity in the process. (I already pondering some possible last-minute changes to the Magic Metal Meteora lineup, due to some... things surrounding one of the originally intended topics that came to my attention in early July.)
See you soon!
