Listen to the Music feat. Tom Johnston (The Doobie Brothers) | Playing For Change
In music as in life, the things that make us different make us stronger. All the various instruments, tones, perspectives, and cultures in this recording combine to create a new version of this classic Song Around The World.
The idea was born a few years ago during breakfast at the Byron Bay Bluesfest in Australia. Our friend and drummer, Peter Bunetta, introduced me to Tom Johnston of The Doobie Brothers and we talked about taking "Listen to the Music" around the world. We started the track with an acoustic guitar demo played to a click track and then added bass from Colombia, tablas and veena from India, and then headed to the Redwood Forest in Northern California to record and film Tom Johnston live outside. We then recorded and filmed Patrick Simmons and John McFee playing along to the track in a park in San Diego. The journey then continued throughout North and South America, Europe, The Middle East, Asia, and Africa. This final version features 30 musicians from 12 countries united through their love of music.
Listen to the music and change the world!

🇺🇸 Lauren Wood ‎– Cat Trick - 1981 Recalling the timeless classics, today is the turn of "Lauen Wood". I had the first contact with Lauren's music, in the early 90's, I imagine like many with the theme "Fallen" for the movie "Pretty Woman" but, Lauen Wood's music is more there. A talented singer, lyricist, songwriter, arranger and multi-instrumentalist, she released two solo albums between 1979 and 1981 that have become two gems of the West Coast. Cat trick is my favorite work, masterfully produced by: Peter Bunetta and Rick Chudacoff (De Crackin ') plus a selection of West Coast anthological musicians. www.westcoastmusic.it/West Coast / Lauren Wood / lauren_wood_81.htm Lauren Wood's musical career dates back to the 1970s, when she formed a trio on "Chunky, Novi & Ernie" that, while not pure WestCoast works, possess enormous potential. https://youtu.be/9olVAX4so3o Lauren's career continues to this day, though perhaps without the depth of her early solo albums, at least for fans of WestCoast's more sophisticated music. Fortunately, today we can find her work on CD, lp and on digital platforms from a unique and irreplaceable artist. Classic !! https://www.instagram.com/p/CHjOsCqpCUb/?igshid=se1lhnsn1le3

On Thursday evening, September 21st, Grammy Nominee Robbie Dupree performed at Bogies in Westlake Village. He is well known for his hit songs “Steal Away” and “Hot Rod Hearts” which were part of the soft rock sound of the 1980’s.
Tonight he presented his band including Peter Bunetta (Playing For Change) on drums; Leslie Smith (Babylon Social Club, Ricki Lee Jones) & Arno Lucas (Al Jarreau, John Legend, India Arie) on bg vocals & percussion; Christian Cullen (Night Ranger) on keys & bg vocals; Gigi Worth (Kenny Loggins, Christopher Cross) on bg vocals & Tony Pulizzi (American Idol, Natalie Cole) on guitar.
Dupree’s relaxed and easy rolling out of his soulful vocals testified to his unique style. He also mingled a twinge of a bluesy transfusion to the mix by blowing the harmonica. On the song “Lucky” we first heard the crying out guitar licks of Tony Pulizza which gave the song a cool, hip feel. The rest of the band followed bouncing along in a steady beat. Robbie Dupree hit the spot with a gorgeous dreamy rendition of the romantic ballad, “We Let the Stars Go.”
Matthew Wilder
Peter Beckett
Picking up the beat a bit, Dupree tells the story of a broken romance in “In the Real World” and Christian Cullen lays out vamping phrasing on the keys while the bass rounds out the sound with a deep steady rhythmic beat. Honoring the recent marriage of the backup singer, Gigi Worth, the band played, “For the Love of You.” Drifting smoothly along, the sweet love song poured deliciously out of the vocals and group’s instrumental. “Looking for Salvation” provided a poignant moment in the set as the Leslie Smith’s and Gigi Worth’s sharp harmonies cried out, plus the guitar solo of Pulizzi howled with lament. We were treated to “I Only Have Eyes For You” calling for a Doo-wop chorus of harmonies and a bluesy blowing on the harmonica by Dupree.
Stephen Bishop
The finale was a grand set of classic rock starring some of Robbie Dupree’s celebrated Artist friends such as Matthew Wilder, Stephen Bishop and Peter Beckett. The set begins with Robbie Dupree doing perfect renditions of “Hot Rod Hearts” and “Steal Away.” Then Producer/ Rock Artist, Matthew Wilder belted out his big hit “Break My Stride.” Stephen Bishop brought us all back to the balmy breezes of Jamaica with his huge hit song, “On and On” which was followed by English Rock Star, Peter Beckett of the group Player. When the first lines of “Baby Come Back” were played and Beckett echoed with the reverb on the electric guitar, the audience was ready to hear this cool hit tune. Beckett hit those high notes full blast and he had the backup vocals of Robbie Dupree, Matthew Wilder, Leslie Smith and Gigi Harp.
He rocked out with proficient licks to end the superb performance. The closing song was handed to Leslie Smith, (who I know as a vocalist from Larry Dunn’s, Earth, Wind & Fire Anthology Band). Robbie Dupree said, “This is more like a prayer the way Leslie Smith does it.” It was Sting’s lovely song, “Fragile.” No arguments here, Smith’s vocals were rich and soulful. Dupree added a lush harmonica solo, guitarist Pulizzi added his standout plucking, keyboardist Christian Cullen ran up and down the ivories, then it was back to Leslie Smith to conclude with his powerful voice falling down slowly, simply, then a soft wail. A first-rate night of vintage music from Robbie Dupree came to an end.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

I remember playing the show in LA and a family that I work closely with, the Bunettas, Julian Bunetta who did all the 1D stuff and who I wrote Slow Hands with and On the Loose on this record, I'm good friends with him and his family, they're a big family in the music industry around America, and his dad [producer Peter Bunetta] called me after the show – or I called him and I said: what did you think? And he said: I cannot wait for your next record. And I said: so did you enjoy it or not? And he said: no, I don't care about that. He said: your voice on the next record, because you're doing so many shows and you're playing, he said: I just can't wait for your next record, it just seems to be getting stronger. And I thought that was the best compliment I've had all year – that he's excited about my next record, because he's heard me sing live, and I'm like: that's exactly what the whole aim is.
