PASTA 🇮🇹 // Tagliatelle Osso Bucco; aud31 from newly-opened Vin Populi @vinpopuli in Fremantle @visitfremantle . Delicious handmade pasta and flavoursome sauce. 🍝👌🏻 Also ordered the veal saltimboca ($35) - this was quite dry and overdone as the meat was a very thin slice - they kindly took this off our bill after we provided our feedback and asked if it was meant to be like that since we haven’t had the dish before. The sauce was nice though - love the slight tang. Will definitely be back to try more of their pastas. INVITED // Our delicious dinner from Miky’s Italian @mikysitalian in Nedlands. We had the following: - WAGYU TAGLIATA $45: 300 grm local Margaret River wagyu beef mb 8/9, roasted potatoes, red wine jus - Pasta: CRAB $36: home-made tagliatelle, blue swimmer crab, fresh tomatoes, parsley, chilli - Pizza: FOUR CHEESE $27: Mozzarella, blue cheese, pecorino, parmesan cheese - BUTTERFLY TIGER PRAWNS $25: wood-grilled whole shark Bay prawns, crustaceans bisque, lemon - BURRATA $24: italian burrata, diced tomatoes, pizza fritta - GARLIC FOCACCIA $13: wood-fired garlic focaccia, oregano, salt, pepper - TIRAMISU $14: Home-made traditional mascarpone cream with sponge finger soaked in Alexandria Italian coffee Everything was delicious and my favourites of the night were the wagyu which was medium rare and melt-in-the-mouth - it wasn’t bloody at all and the roasted potatoes were very crispy (Red wine jus is on the sweeter side), flavoursome crab pasta and four cheese pizza. Pizza was thin, crisp, airy and fluffy - I don’t really like blue cheese on its own but could not help eating slices of this pizza - the sharpness of the blue cheese combined with the other cheeses resulted in a very flavoursome & addictive pizza. Burrata was very unique with pizza fritta and I loved this too. The crustacean bisque that came with the butterfly tiger prawns was very strong in flavour - could taste that prawn heads and shells were used to create this intense flavour explosion. Ended the night with the creamy tiramisu and a lovely chat with Michele. Miky’s located in Broadway shopping complex and there’s plenty of parking available - the IGA here used to be my “local grocery” back in UWA days. The exteriors are cute and romantic with fairy lights and the interiors have photos of Italy - where Miky was born (Punta) and the Amalfi coast. MUMMUCC // BBQ Rock lobster, chilli vinegar, Laver; aud32 with bread and butter (aud8) from @mummucc Mummucc, Wembley. Menu on last pic. Rock lobster was cooked perfectly and texture was spot on. Sauce was delicious but quite heavily-seasoned. We didn’t order bread at first but ordered it after the dish arrived as we couldn’t let the sauce go to waste. So good soaked with the bread albeit being quite heavily-seasoned - a little less salt would have been perfect. The cost of the bread was waived as an apology for the general saltiness of the dishes that night - the squid ink pasta we had ordered was also very heavily-seasoned. Thank you SH for de-shelling the lobster and assembling it onto the bread - it’s like a new lobster toast dish. ❤️ What a coincidence running into so many food lovers that night! INVITED // Throwback to the pizzas we had at takeaway pizza store @illocale_scarborough Il Locale Scarborough and learning all about the making of pizzas. Menu on @perthfoodmenu or click #PFR_IlLocale Amazing team here that pumps out wood-fired pizzas (they use Jarrah wood) to locals and those who travel here to takeaway! We had such a fun time here. Thank you so much to the @illocale_scarborough team - Mat, Ben, Nicolo and Giuseppe - for having us and teaching us all! Do check them out (open 7 days) and they are also doing breakfast pizzas (breakzzas) on Sundays (from 8am-12pm) too. Coffees from @drift.kitchen next door! LA SOSTA FREMANTLE 🇮🇹 // hand-made pasta for days 🍝❤️ Celebrated a friend’s birthday on Sunday here and had the following: (all pasta mains were $33) - Pasta del Giorno: Pasta special of the day: taglioni with soft beef cheeks - Tagliolini Neri al Granchio: Squid ink tagliolini with crab - Spaghetti alla Chitarra ai Ricci: Chitarra spaghetti with sea urchins, grape tomatoes - Pappardelle al Ragu’ di Agnello e Tartufo: Pappardelle, lamb ragu’, truffle paste, green peas, pecorino - Ravioli ai Porcini: Porcini mushroom ravioli, butter, sage - Lasagnole Gamberi e Pistacchio: Lasagnole, WA prawns, pistachio pesto - Gnocchi all’Anatra: Gnocchi, red wine braised duck ragu, orange zest - Grigliata Imperiale: WA grilled prawns, squid, cuttlefish, scallop, fish of the day, grilled vegetables $45 - Caprese di Bufala: Buffalo bocconcini mozzarella, heirloom cherry tomatoes, basil, olive oil $16 - Melanzana alla Napoletana: Fried eggplant, mozzarella, tomatoes, anchovies, capers (vegetarian option: no anchovies) $17 - Focaccia: Woodfired focaccia with rosemary, Sicilian sea salt, olive oil $11 Delicious and my favourite pastas were the beef cheek special and the squid ink tagliolini with crab. All of their pastas were al dente and none of the pastas were heavily-seasoned.
