PIXALO + OUYA: Day 33
Date: 10/07/13
Days Left: 216
Goal: Give a brief update about what I've been up to the past few weeks with Pixalo.
Pixalo: After working a bit with a small home-brewed framework I realized some significant road blocks in the future so I've decided to use Libgdx for this project as it takes care of all the stuff that I really can't worry about with a small timeframe (like 216 days). 
Right now I have a prototype of a single level working on both desktop and the OUYA. My biggest task right now is figuring out how to get controller support working. I will update when that is working.
On a side note I've also decided to go with a PNG based level generation mapping system that enables me to just color pixels and it interprets the png as maps. 
Realizations: I'm starting to realize that the biggest road block to keep moving is finding large time blocks to knock out major milestones. I dropped everything this past weekend including family and close friend events to try to get back on schedule with Pixalo development and to catch up on school. I spent 32 hours between Friday night and Sunday morning writing code: it seriously paid off! I'm a long way off from calling this game "playable" by any standards beyond functional prototype, but I got up to schedule. 
Linux: I'm planning on, at this point, releasing Pixalo on Linux next summer following the OUYA release.
I will update when I can. Work is busy, life is busy, school is busy, and what time I have left goes to Pixalo development.

PIXALO + OUYA: Day 11
Days Left: 238
Goal: Today's post will be giving general updates with music, programming, art, and school.
PIXALO + MUSIC: Music has been started. So far I have a theme song, and an 8 bit version of said theme song. I have the awesome pleasure of working with Saad Ali of Reckoning Storm to compose both the music and sound effects for Pixalo OE (I'm now referring to Pixalo OUYA Edition as Pixalo OE). 
PIXALO + DEV: Dev is well under way in creating my groundwork framework for Pixalo. All my Java knowledge is returning quickly and I'm enjoying working with the Android SDK. I'm hoping to have the building blocks done in the next two weeks and I can work on the heavy lifting side of things with level creation, audio integration, and other tid bits. 
SCHOOL: I have received permission to share publicly any assignments I complete regarding Pixalo. This means you can now follow along with the business and writing side of things. Hopefully this will help give other devs some insight into business documentation. 
ART: If anyone wants to help with promo art, hit me up! I'm talking about posters, sticker designs, etc. I'm no artist and could use as much help as possible in this department. Everything financially is coming out of my own pocket so funds are scarce. The best thing I can promise in return at the moment is promotion of you, and of course credits in the finished game.

PIXALO + OUYA: Day 2
Days Left: 247
Goal: The goal of today's post is to let you know what I WILL and what I MIGHT have in the OUYA version of Pixalo upon it's release in 2014. Make sure you play the web version so you can see where square one is!
What WILL:
Music - There will be a theme song, and a handful of in game tracks. 
Sound FX - full set of sound effects for everything
NEW levels - There will be AT LEAST 30 new levels.
Additional Story - The web version touched lightly on my purpose of the game. I plan on fleshing that out for those who like to read.
New Mechanics: There is a twist here, but the levels will not just be hopping around anymore.
What MIGHT: 
Multiplayer capability
Rogue elements
A Shakespeare language pack
Historical skin packs
I can guarantee one thing for certain; it will be challenging both to build and to play. I love hard games and this is no exception!
