okay SO I haven’t been able to find sheet music (which would let me go more in depth), but for now I just wanna talk about what I can easily notice cause I think it’s interesting!
SO let’s talk about the Goggi Mega (from Afram Latibær) to Gizmo Guy (from the Lazytown tv show) pipeline! Now you may be thinking “hey those are two completely different songs!” And yes! You’re right! Gizmo Guy comes much more directly from Megabæt (Glanni Glæpur í Latibær), but! As Goggi Mega is the first song sung by Goggi/Pixel I think it’s interesting to see what, if anything, transferred through all three songs!
The answer is not much! The original Goggi Mega song is honestly fascinating to me, because I hate it! The instrumental by itself isn’t bad. And the lyrics are mostly spoken, rather than sung, but I’m not opposed to that either. The thing that makes my skin crawl with this song is the pitchy chiptune beeps that are thrown throughout the song! The beeps are all shaky and incredibly off pitch with the rest of the song in a way that makes me Incredibly Uncomfortable! And they’re also?? Not in the CD recording of the song and just in the filmed version? Oddly enough, the chiptune pitches are one of the few things that continue on, although in Megabæt they are integrated in a much better way. The other thing that transfers to the next iteration is the robotic voice that’s singing in the background. With that let’s move on to Megabæt!

I think personally think Megabæt is the superior version of the song. It’s got the great beat and melody and it’s got the chip tunes (and the robotic voice singing the chorus in the CD extended version) from Goggi Mega. The chiptune pitches in this version actually fit in with the song and add to it with the game over music that’s played with the pitches.
Finally we got Gizmo Guy from the tv show! This one is basically Megabæt but I’m not complaining. The beat is a little less intense in this one and I think it might be pitched up a bit? It also loses the chiptunes and the robotic voice is utilized less than in the previous two.
These are the main differences between the songs that I see! I think it’s really interesting how it evolved through the versions. And also I love how like charmingly outdated they are. Hearing the lines about floppy and hard disks and CD drives always make me smile. Good songs!
Please allow me to yap about how much these guys mean to me 🩷
I literally grew up with this show, and even now as a 21 year old, I remember it with just as much joy as I did back then. It came back to me during a time I was so unsure about life and had no plans for it. I also didn't live the healthiest. It not only inspired my love of digital painting and the likes, it did actually push me to a healthier state of mind — ironic that it technically did its job on me.
Suffice to say, especially in today's world, these guys can bring a real mental/emotional comfort 💙 It's just all around wholesome. I'm willing to bet many people still remember the meme years.
So, from the bottom of my heart, I thank everyone who worked on this show; To the ones who contributed to its popularity and its development. That especially goes to the man himself, Magnús Scheving. You created something that influenced so many people, and you dedicated years just to help the world. Your love and creativity shows :) You matter.
And I hope you're resting easy, Stefán 💜 We never forgot you.
