bio
steph was born in oakland, ca to a couple freshly out of college. the couple ended up moving up to astoria, oregon where her father was originally from when steph was still a baby
the couple split up when steph was four, and her mom moved up to seattle for a job as an art teacher - and so began steph's time spent between the two towns
steph loved art and music from a young age, influenced heavily by watching her mother and her love for it. her father, though, was the first to float the idea of an private arts high school that was not far from where he lived in oregon, and steph jumped at the chance, and begged her mom to let her attend
steph took to the school like a duck to water, embracing her talent in music, and getting to explore other areas in the arts provided there.
during her senior year, though, her father died during a heavy storm from a fallen tree limb and electrical wire. with the loss of her father, steph isolated herself, finishing school was purely to open the escape route out to college back home in seattle.
she attended college, changing her focus to video game design - a passion that felt so separated from everything else. but it wasn't long until her old loves came back, and she threw herself into the music scene fully, making friends and having her favorites of local bands.
it was there where she met her first real girlfriend, izzie. she fell in love quickly, and the two formed their own music group, that very quickly took off in the seattle music scene, especially amongst the queer scene.
the two found minor success elsewhere around the US, finding blips of listeners anywhere from phoenix to little towns like rolling springs, pa. the two gathered what little money they had, and started a tour across the country, offering to do jobs on a short-term basis everywhere they went for some extra cash.
their stop in litwick was the longest stay they'd had found. before they wound up in litwick, their longest stay anywhere was a little over two weeks in denver, co, where steph will admit was mostly because they spent more money on weed than they should have
but something about litwick resonated with steph in a way that nothing really had in a long time, and weeks had turned to months in the small town. when conversations about leaving sprung up, steph dismissed them or changed the subject. she took a job at the local music shop, magical melody, working as a clerk, while izzie bounced impatiently between the books & the bees, dupont's grocery, and reece's bar and grill.
eventually the ignored conversations came to a head, and became a fight. izzie demanded to keep moving, and steph couldn't quite bring herself to leave. the couple broke up, and izzie left, returning back home to seattle, and after an extended depressive episode, steph found her footing in litwick, ingratiating herself into the town, and during the last 4 years in town, was promoted to manager at magical melody, and only sometimes has existential crises about having stayed put, and the stagnation that has come with her decision.

dylan's first ever job had been helping out at the summer camp he'd attended as a camper just the year before. it was new for him – responsibility paired with a hefty pay check for a teenager, the only thought in his mind was what cd or record he would be buying next with his latest wages. it didn't take long for dylan to be known as the class clown, easing tense atmospheres with perfectly timed humor, a carefree attitude and a joke for every situation making him the kind of friend everyone enjoyed being around. to most people, that's all he was. the comedic relief of the group, someone to lighten their spirits and have a good time. it was all a coping mechanism for dylan, though. behind his sharp whit and easygoing demeanour was a fragile boy, desperate for approval and attention that he never got from his parents. after all, they'd ship him away all summer just to get away from him. dylan would be the kind of friend everyone enjoys being around. His easygoing demeanor and sharp wit would make him the life of the party, always finding ways to lighten the mood and keep things fun. a freak accident only made dylan return into his make-believe shell; a wood shop disaster caused a nasty infection, resulting in the music-loving twenty year old losing his left hand. months of recovery led him to where he was now — a traumatised music teacher with one hand, trying to rediscover who he is.

( guppy, mst, she/her, twenty-two )
“ the UNANSWERED MYSTERY is what stays with us the longest, and it’s what we’ll remember in the end. ”
hello, everyone! i am very excited to be here and to be playing one of my favorite video game characters of all time. i look forward to writing with y'all later this afternoon.
full name: alan vincent wake
nickname(s): al (anyone), scratch (by his editor)
age: thirty-nine years old
birthday: january 30th
gender: cis man
pronoun(s): he/him/his
romantic orientation: heteroromantic
sexual orientation: heterosexual
home town: olympia, washington, u.s.a.
current residence: chanterelle gardens, litwick
occupation: bookseller (the books & the bees), bestselling crime series author (under pseudonym, vincent scratch)
martial status: married
— trigger warnings:implied alcoholism, clinical depression
alan never quite found a balance between the dark and the light. from infancy, he suffered from aural migraines onset by too-bright lights and over-stimulation. even though the light could be a literal pain, the dark was no better. he feared the unknown lurking behind shadows, shut curtains, and closed doors. his mother was finally the one to give him some hope in the darkness with "the clicker." it was just an old light switch the family had laying around the basement, but to alan it was a life-preserver. every time he felt fear creeping in from the dark, he could flip the switch and his whole world seemed to brighten. forget teddy bears or nightlights, the clicker was what he carried on overnight trips and held close to his chest each night as he slept.
even as alan grew up, the clicker was a habit he couldn't kick. by the time he was in college—a moody english major with a penchant for herbal cigarettes—it became a part of a pick up method when attractive co-eds would ask what he was doing carrying around a light switch in a bar. it was easy enough for him to make up some tragic or fascinating tale that would lead to an epic one-night stand. he had somewhat of a reputation for being a heartbreaker, but the school was big enough that it didn't spread to every possible hookup. if anything, the rumors made him more mysterious and charming, as he was gossiped about as an artist struggling with deep emotions and an inability to commit. even if he was a bit of an asshole and a playboy, he truly was an artist with a talent unmatched by his peers.
by graduation, alan had already signed a publishing deal for a book he'd begun writing his freshman year: alex casey. he moved up to new york city to be closer to his publishing house, and picked up some odd jobs along the way to keep the lights on while he waited for his advance to roll in. one of those jobs, as a night watchman, led him to his future wife.
alice was attempting to break and enter, thinking the warehouse alan watched over was abandoned after dark. all she needed was to get some photographs for a series she was putting together. alan put the kibosh on that quickly, but he couldn't get her out of his head. he let her go with a soft warning, and a request to take her out to dinner.
she accepted, and the rest is history.
a successful six-book series and two moves later, they've wound up in litwick hoping to get away from city life. with writer's block weighing down on him, and a lack of motivation to get out of bed most days, alice thought the move might bring some much needed clarity. he's been four years sober, and fears that his writing talents may have been connected to the bottle. the last time he put out a book was three years ago, and the masses are hungrily awaiting the conclusion to vincent scratch's alex casey mystery.
maybe he's no longer cut out for writing. maybe he's destined to spend his days dusting bookshelves and ordering new bestsellers from the publishing house he was once the king of.
his agent, barry, keeps calling to ask about his contract, but those calls have gone unanswered for far too long.
it's time for a change, and an expensive clinical psychologist.
