#just saw a post abt how “big” things like electronics should be expensive.#and the idea of big things being expensive was presented as a leftist ideal (to the best of my understanding)#Interlude: what i'm abt to say is not shade. it's so not shade. i'm just late night ranting#thing is. big ticket items should be expensive. the original post makes a convincing argument for that imo#however moreover additionally also. let me add. big ticket items should be expensive under capitalism#the original post disregards the under capitalism aspect. an aspect that's central to the topic of leftism & consumerism#leftist ideologies strive for a future beyond capitalism. a future where there are no consumer goods (as we think of them today)#plainly speaking. a world without consumerism. coping with capitalism by arguing for fair wages and reasonable pricing is cool and all#but it's not leftism. and scarier still. arguments for a reform of capitalism are often neoliberal trojan horses#meant to lull us into a false sense of progress. meant to make us believe that we're not doing a capitalism when what we're actually doing#is capitalism 2.0 (3.0 4.0 etc). it's just a reiteration of capitalism. and capitalism will reiterate however much/often it needs to#in order to perpetuate itself. and to be clear. arguing for more expensive consumer goods is a reiteration of capitalism#i hate using silly words like “neoliberal” but here we are. anyway good news is. there are alternatives to capitalism. yay ig#thoughts from the abyss
