Sometimes the attacks hit him out of nowhere. Even after almost a year of freedom- he couldn't escape the slight shake of his hands, the shadows that swam in his vision until he felt physically sick, the feeling of suffocation that enveloped him until he was gasping for air and staring off at things that only he could see.

Sometimes it would be weeks between episodes. Sometimes only days.

One time Chase touched his shoulder to ask him a question and it took almost 2 hours for him to calm down.

He hated feeling weak.

"You're not." Jackie assured him. "You're the strongest person I know."

He found that really hard to believe when he was tearing at his hair and gasping for breath between sobs in the relative isolation of his office. When he was hiding the deep bruises and white scars under long sleeve sweaters or his white coat.

Gentle hands touched him, causing him to recoil. Jackie held back, holding his hands out, palms up.

"Just tell me when you're ready." He said softly.

Truthfully, he didn't know if he ever would be.
