I miss Spectrobes man, that series was dope af
Back when Disney wasn’t you know, as fucked up as it is today. The designs were dope, the gameplay was just so nice to my little childhood adhd. Wish it had its popularity and name spread about. There’s no chance in hell it’d ever make it to Switch. But a dog can hope.

I mis-read your summary and thought it said Rathma's creature and I was like oh, you're into Diablo too?!? Sweet!
Sadly, no, I do not know of most of the... top-down combat type games like that. My scene is simulators and sandboxes. Spore, Rune Factory (i see you in my like notifs, person with a wooly avatar), Song of the Evertree, modded Minecraft, petsites...
Rune Factory and Minecraft is the closest I get to combat games, most of the time. It's not that I don't LOVE fighting mechanics, I just need to be collecting stuff for a base or collecting creatures from it, lmao. Diablo and Darksouls and other things of that nature are waaay out of my orbit.

I've been playing Spectrobes Origins on an emulator recently (one of the best games I played as a teen) and i'm still obsessed with the idea of the Rydrake. It's literally a ice metal cat dragon. Like it sounds like someone threw a bunch of darts at a board and they said "hey fuck it we'll do it" and it turned out to be the best fucking thing ever.
Fucking look at this

Gamefreak wishes it could be this cool

tangentially related but I'm still always thinking about how spectrobes origins's fossil cleaning works weirdly well for a wii game. something about "wii game" and "fossil cleaning" together sounds like a horrific experience, but it works well.

Also this update vaguely gives me Spectrobes vibes
But that’s probably because that’s literally the only other space themed game I’ve played, other than a Star Ocean game like, a decade ago that I can’t remember
But also it’s kind of the music? But again, maybe it’s because it’s the only other space game I know

I cannot find my original poll but I also wanted to make an new one anyways
NOT INCLUDING THESE IN THE POLL:
Pokemon/Digimon: Waaaay to wildly popular. I had them in the last poll and they basically dominated it all, so I wanted to shine the light on these gems!
Palworld: I know its new, that's not why its not included. The company fully supports AI/GPT and I can't in good conscious include it. I'll include a link in the reblog for more info on it, cause I still don't know if they still shadowban posts with links in em initially.
GAMES I WANT TO INCLUDE BUT LITERALLY ONLY HAVE SO MANY OPTIONS:
World of Final Fantasy
Monster Crown
Disc Creatures
Siralim Ultimate
Moonstone Island
Anode Heart
Feel free to reblog/comment with other monster-collector games!! I love playing these type of games and love collecting them!

ANYWAY if someone wants actual monster catching/collecting alternatives to Pokémon heres some of my faves on a bunch of different platforms
Yokai Watch (I am on my knees plz play yw. they're literally so good. Pokemon was fighting for their lives in japan for a reason)
Digimon (specifically Cyber Sleuth)
Monster Hunter: Stories (slept on so hard. The most beautiful cutscenes I've ever seen in these type of games i had like 1k screenshots)
Dragon Quest: Monsters
Monster Rancher
Ni No Kuni
Temtem
Cassette Beasts
Ooblets
LumenTale (isn't out yet but I loved the demo so)
One's I haven't tried yet
Nexomon
Coromon
Fossil Fighters
Spectrobe
Monster Crown
Honorable Mentions (aka technically you can collect creatures)
Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance
Dragon Quest 5
World of Final Fantasy
Shin Megami Tensei
Persona
Legend of Mana

I hope this whole Palworld debacle will lead people to find more monster tamer games, it's not just Pokemon out there! There's some that play similar to Pokemon, and others that play pretty differently. Or if you just like Pokemon, there are PLENTY of fan games out there with many in development that are fun to keep an eye on
Pretty much every Digimon game, Yo-Kai Watch, Fossil Fighters 1 and 2, Nexomon, Coromon, Spectrobes(if you don't mind a lackluster battle system, but with VERY cool creature designs) and Monster Hunter Stories 1 and 2 to just name a few!

Just there are so many mon games out there. So many. To say that Pokemon has the monopoly really shows that you haven't been looking around the genre.
Games I've played and liked in the monster buddy battling/raising/farming thing include:
So many Digimon games. Digimon World DS, Digimon World Dawn/Dusk, Digimon World Championship, Digimon Story Cybersleuth/Hacker's Memory, and Digimon Survive specificlly.
Nexomon Extinction
Monster Hunter Stories and Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin
Dinosaur King
Fossil Fighters, Fossil Fighters: Champions, and Fossil Fighters: Frontier
Yo-kai Watch 2: Boney Spirits/Fleshy Souls
Viva Piñata
Magi-Nation
And there's like so much more out there. I didn't include things I played and didn't like for personal reasons like I couldn't get the camera to work right in Dragon Quest Monsters and just I'm shit at camera aiming or like the Shin Megami Tensei game I picked up where I just didn't personally like the designs for the humans and the whole do certain events by X time in the story is a bit complicated for me and my memory and focusing issues. Or just the consul issues I was having while trying to play Spectrobes led to me not having a decent time playing.
But who knows? You might like those games.

what do you think of Spectrobes? I feel like the creature design of these games have some similarities to some common design choices of yours
I had no knowledge of Spectrobes at all until I started doing Pokemon redesigns back in like, 2016. A lot of people brought them to my attention and I've had people speculate that I was originally inspired by Spectrobes, but I swear to me mum I had no idea, but I totally get why people think that. I've literally had specific designs pointed out to me and I can't deny the similarities.
I feel like a lot of my art style is primarily inspired by the games I played when I was young. Games like Okami, Shadow of the Colossus, and primarily The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker I feel is my biggest inspiration.
That being said I think Spectrobes look really cool honestly! If I knew about them at the time I think it would have vibed with me, but for whatever reason they went over my radar. I feel like I should do a deep dive on their creation and the artists at some point, maybe I'll learn something. C:
