Kazegafeast2019, Day 1: Favorite character

Haiji-centric drabble because I love my boy. And astronomy. And astronomical metaphors.

Haiji has always liked shooting stars.

He could stay all night looking at the dotted sky and wait, just for that one brief blink of light filling his eyes for a second and then burning out, too quick, too abrupt, and then wait for the next, and the next. One was never enough.

He runs, and it’s like a galaxy full of light is enveloping him, his own light mixing with others’, stronger, brighter, more beautiful than it could ever be alone.

Then, his body betrays him, and all the light disappears in a blink of an eye, suddenly, mercilessly.

He is alone, and his own light is not enough, never enough, not with a crack running through his body.

He stills looks for shooting stars in the sky.

And one day, it’s not a shooting star that passes him.

It’s a comet.
