Three fire emojis?!? This demands something extreme. It’s what MJ would want. But that’s extreme-ly difficult, because every single opinion about MJ is unpopular. She’s very divisive. Like, I don’t think I have a single opinion about her that wouldn’t make somebody, somewhere, scream with rage. Simultaneously, most of them are held by some portion of the readership.

Have a couple handfuls of objectively innocuous opinions people would still scream in my face or write an unhappy screed over, instead. Elaboration is available upon request.

This is not a person with narrow hips; artists who draw MJ with whatever body type is “in” are just weak.

Carrot top MJ is the inferior way to interpret her hair; like I’d literally rather have it be a rusty brown if you just can’t stomach black with cherry highlights.

The first thing she tells us about herself is that she’s an actress. Stop taking her away from the arts. Otherwise good or well-meaning content is super guilty of this - Invincible Iron Man spotlighting her and making her Pepper’s replacement, Spider-Man PS4 making her a reporter. Her era of owning a club didn’t have a single interesting story done with it but also why did she own a club in the first place. @ creators of fiction: if you think creative pursuits are inferior and characters need to be upgraded away from them to be cool, maybe you should see a therapist.

Every update and remix of MJ I know of is weaker than her classic 616 iteration. Most of them try to go in a feminist direction and are actively less feminist. If MJ existed she’d say, “Guess you just can’t upgrade perfection!” and toss her hair and maybe she’s right.

I want to say I want more AU MJs, adaptations, and crossover cameos, but there are tons of these things. What I actually have a need for is more such things where MJ is recognizable as the same character. There’s just so much to work with.

I’m happy about the renaissance of MJ content over the last year on principle, but most of the content...is not good. Her solo keeps playing this “poking fun at sexist tropes” angle that is actually just introducing those tropes to where everybody was trying to mind their own business, and I hope it stops soon and maybe gets literally any character work done with its lead instead. Her spotlight issue in FNSM had the writer on Twitter talking about how he ran the script past his wife who studied feminist literature or whatever and then it had Peter describe MJ as someone who has never run from anything, like. Maybe you could have spent half that effort reading some comics? She’s left the city to avoid confronting problems before and personally I think that’s very powerful and sexy of her. It doesn’t help that Marvel’s continuity checker is a single dead frog.

I stand by all of this, but whether or not Peter was to be temporarily removed from the picture I really do think they should turn over one of his traditional main titles to Miles. (Nobody seems to get these days that “Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man” is a sarcastic joke, so maybe we should just turn the book over to the actual friendly Spider-Man.) I just don’t think it’s fair to both characters that Peter gets books titled Amazing/Spectacular/Sensational/etc and meanwhile Miles is just stuck with regular Spider-Man. In the spirit of the character, I think he’d want Miles in more of a spotlight. Transferring Miles into the main continuity universe should’ve open up a host of opportunities for Miles, and instead they’re just putting out more and more Peter Parker books that aren’t even well-written or characterized, when I do think Miles could hold his own if given the opportunity. Additionally, if Spider-Man PS4 and Into the Spider-Verse have proved anything, it’s that there’s a lot of desire and a big audience for more Peter-Miles interaction, something the comics themselves have been seriously slacking on. 

Don’t get me wrong, I would like to get new, good Peter Parker stories – but it just doesn’t seem to be happening. His voice is just so bland right now, and it’s a real insult to the best of the character. Part of me sincerely doesn’t think we can get new, truly good Peter Parker stories again until we address Superior Spider-Man and how invasive and traumatic it was, instead of brushing any serious consequences off the table. (And please stop putting out “Superior” books and trying to make Otto in his stolen Peter clone body with his extreme stalking of Anna Maria into a heroic character. It’s extra creepy how nobody at Marvel seems to be aware of how creepy this is. You can’t write a redemption arc by waving aside everything the character did in Superior and going “yeah but he beat up a possessed eight year old, so you know, he’s trying.”) I guess my personal feelings is that, with the cyclical nature of comic book deaths and resurrections, I’d rather take Peter Parker off the field until they can figure out how to tell good stories about him again rather than putting out poorer quality content.

Re: the Gwen story idea in particular, I (and several other people I know) have been thinking about it a lot, especially since the Ghost Spider rebranding because like, come on, it’s right there. And in a world where Jason Todd and Bucky Barnes both get these violent vengeance quest resurrection stories, I feel like it’s pretty glaring why Gwen does not. I like Spider-Gwen as a concept, but it’s not really the same thing, and a lot of creator conversation around Spider-Gwen seems to frame Gwen’s death as some sort of character flaw, and that Spider-Gwen is a better character for not being subjected to a creator decision in 1974. But what I love about 616 Gwen is this kind of unbridled intensity in her, and I think it would be incredible paired with a leather jacket, Peter’s old motorcyle, a stormy night in a graveyard, and one girl’s quest to kill her murderer, her friend’s abusive father, her other friend’s murderer, the orchestrator of the death of her lover and best friend’s, his future wife’s, infant child. I think my final two points are that I think a lot of Spider-Man comes out of a place of grief, and I think it would be interesting to reverse and invert that – grief over Peter, rather than Peter’s grief, in a way we haven’t really gotten to explore in 616, at least not from all of these directions. The second is that whether people want to admit it or not, a lot of writing these long, long running comics is essentially paid fanfic – you are playing with characters and settings you didn’t create, and the best fanfic writers can nail those voices, keep up that characterization, build on those relationships, and pull themes and play with them in a way that rings true. So these are just my personal ideas – but I can write some damn good fanfic.

Destiny 2 Cross-Save Is Great, Once You Get It Working

The much-anticipated ability to move your Destiny 2 progress between multiple platforms has finally arrived. Destiny 2 cross-save launched a couple of hours later than originally scheduled, but it is here–and it really does work as promised, provided you can get through the setup process in the first place.

Cross-save’s launch coincided with maintenance to Bungie.net. Bungie was forced to delay the launch several hours due to maintenance, which has now concluded.

As detailed in Bungie’s cross-save guide, you’ll have to connect each of your accounts and then authenticate them as truly being yours. This appears to be the stage at which most people are being tripped up. Several of us here at GameSpot found that authenticating one platform caused another to become undone. Repeatedly authenticating ultimately worked for me and allowed me to proceed–all platforms have to be authenticated before continuing–but others are still stuck on this step and are sometimes presented with “500” errors when authenticating.

Bungie has said it’s aware of these errors and is thus continuing the maintenance period. There’s no word on how soon this might be resolved, but more players continue to get in and presumably this is a temporary hitch that will soon be forgotten.

And that’s good news, because cross-save seems genuinely great. While it would have been nice to get cross-play (meaning you could play with those on other platforms regardless of you being on PS4, Xbox One, or PC), this is the next best thing. And this is arguably a superior option, setting aside the issue of needing to own content on each platform. As a longtime console player, moving to the PC version almost feels like playing a completely new game. As great as the game looks on an Xbox One X, the 60+ FPS framerate on PC is a sight to behold, and the speed with which Pursuits and other menu screens load is a massive quality-of-life improvement. And luckily, from what I’ve been able to experience so far, progress does seem to transfer seamlessly. I earned some gear and completed a bounty on PC and was then able to boot up my Xbox One and cash in that bounty and dismantle the gear with no apparent delay.

To its credit, Bungie tries to make it clear what you own on each platform

The one key downside to cross-save is that it requires you to own the game on every platform you want to be able to play on–and it makes things rather complicated. Things will change a bit later this year, as Bungie will be releasing Destiny 2: New Light, a free-to-play version that includes the base game and its early DLC expansion. Additionally, Destiny 2: Shadowkeep will launch as a standalone expansion, so you could in theory just buy that on your secondary platforms and play that new content. But going with New Light or Shadowkeep would preclude you from accessing, say, Forsaken’s Raid or Black Armory’s Forges–though gear you earned from those activities on your main platform(s) is still usable. Further complicating matters is that the PC version of Destiny is moving from Blizzard’s Battle.net to Steam later this year. If you want to dive into Destiny 2 cross-save without any restrictions right now, your only option is to buy a bundle of all currently available content on Battle.net, and then transition to Steam later. Furthermore, you can only spend Silver–the game’s premium currency–on the system you purchased it on.

Confusion over what you can access aside, there are sure to be some quirks that pop up. For instance, a friend of mine found that he was able to claim certain bounties on Xbox One before jumping over to PC, where he doesn’t own Forsaken, and also claim replacement bounties. That’s hardly going to upend the balance of the game, though it remains to be seen if players discover any more impactful loopholes.

Thanks to its free-to-play strategy, a lot of items in Fortnite Battle Royale need V-Bucks, the in-game currency. This title is based on Fortnite (now renamed Fortnite Save the World), a third-person cooperative, base-defense game. Kids must be monitored when playing Fortnite. I never played it prior to but I saw the trailer, it looks safe when watched beneath supervision.

If you use an oversimplified password that is somehow connected to you (such as your birth date or telephone quantity), Fortnite's hacker won't even have to use advanced hacking tools to get your account, you will just have to think a bit and attempt out diverse combinations.
