I've found definitive evidence for Garrett Schmidt being the puppet. You see:
'Charlotte' and 'Marionette' is a stupid ass pun.
While spelled differently, when spoken aloud 'Garrett' and 'Marionette' is another. You guessed it. Stupid ass pun.
