I like your Price because he feels so human. In some works I've read he comes across as an untouchable father figure or very two dimensional. Thanks for giving him some depth.
Thank you. I'm glad he chimes well with you.
I think that may be a product of the fandom's average age. 38 seems ancient to a 22 year old. And I guess a CO can adopt a paternalistic slant in a mentoring or leadership role. I've lost track of the time I've picked up young teachers; I've helped fill in mortgage application forms, I've made social worker calls, I've driven them home when they've come into work sick, I've dealt with work place bullies, I've confiscated their laptop to enforce work life balance, I've subbed rent and flat deposits when they've just moved to the area from abroad. It's easy to do when you encounter younger people whose family have left gaps in support, or they're starting out for the first time.
But... I absolutely don't have it together and neither does Price. I'm of a generation and an origin where you were told by your Boomer parents to suffer in silence and never show anything but a veneer of strength. I think that's why many millennials have tried to break the cycle with their own kids. But that means our internal voice is different to what we externalise. And when Price is a "side character" or playing a facilitating role for a narrative, let's say in a Ghoap fic, there's no need to explore his internal voice. He's a narrative device. And there's nothing wrong with that at all. There are always writers who love him who want to give his internal millennial chaos some breathing room.
Also, you can't tell me that someone with that hip swagger, that smile and that camp as fuck sass with Laswell isn't a private disaster. You know he sits in meetings exchanging side eye with Simon knowing full well they're gonna gossip and bitch over a stout and a fag later.
