@average-bug-type-enjoyer replied:
Well i work in an automotive repair shop in southeast Unova, and we use a lot of steel, electric, water, psychic or fighting types to help with more demanding tasks. For example my Mareep, Cotton helps to jumpstart cars and occasionally power tools. the pokemon in my home are a wide variety of types and species but they all tend to be small to medium and even-tempered. As for in my general area its a bit less predictable but so long as a pokemon can deal with the semi-urban environment than it should be ok. hope that helps, lemme know if you need any more information <3 //ooc { gotta be vague since i still haven’t figured out exactly what pokemon Average is gonna have :/ also i have covid 😔}
Aspen rubbed a hand over his mouth, thinking about it. "Automotive repair, you say... well, I can't promise temperament in an egg, but if that's what you want I have some ideas for what might suit you."
He dropped his hand to cross his arms, squinting as he thought hard about what might suit Average's home and work situation.
Then it dawned on him.
"Klefki." He grinned broadly. "They're not even a foot tall, so they'll fit at home. They're almost universally even tempered 'mons. They can be trained to eat scrap metal and then cut down on any scrap or unusable parts -- they don't mind rust, so it cuts down your trips to the landfill. And they will happily keep track of your car keys or any others; the old fancy folk would give them vault keys, even. Train 'em up young and they'll be happy to trade out keys for new ones or snacks of metal, though, and you won't have to deal with them fighting to keep the keys.
"What do you say, Average?" He asked. "If I can find a Klefki egg, would you want it?"
//ooc = You're fine! Please rest up and feel better! There isn't a time limit on this, but hit that Like to let me know you got this and @' me when you reblog or something. Notifs are being bad.

In reference to the last ask you posted! Do you mind going over your tips on role-playing as that active-type character and/or digging up the thread of conversation it seems the original asker was referring to? I'm so interested in your experience role-playing for both prep in possibly joining a game someday and also bc it sounds like such good character creation and general writing advice!!!! I tried checking you blog but didnt turn up anything that touched pn it more (No worries if not though!)
Sorry for this late response!
My advice is make characters that create opportunities for story.
Reacting to a story is fun! Reacting to a character is fun! But if you're always reacting then you're creating opportunity for other characters to react, so sometimes you gotta Act to let the other characters and the story React.
To do this, characters should all want something. And not something vague (like "to be happy"), it should be something more tangible, more specific, and everything else can stem from there. It'll guide your character naturally. It's their Motivation.
More under the cut (or skip to the end for more standard advice)
For example, my dnd character Dandelion wanted more than anything to go home. "Going home" meant a lot of things, yeah it means being happy, it means he wants to be with his family, it means he wants to be loved, it means he wants to feel safe, it means he wants to belong somewhere, but the tangible idea is "go home."
Because I knew this is what he wanted most of all it guided all his actions, and his actions for better or for worse all made sense because of it (and I made it clear that was what he wanted "on-screen" on multiple occasions). So anything that involved the idea of getting home would activate him, and he'd also deeply empathize with anyone and anything else away from home/away from family. Giving him one strong, clear motivation instantly made him an active participant in the story. This made him active with other characters too, any mention of home, any mention of family, any idea of not belonging, it drew him toward them.
(as a DM now this is also what I need more than anything, what's your hook? how can I tempt you? how can I make your character move forward? how can I make your character react? also characters that create opportunity for story take a LOT of work off the DM's shoulders in my experience, it shows you're engaged and it feels less like dragging a cat around on a leash haha like "are you enjoying this? do you want this? i don't know! please give me something!")
my more standard advice?
Be a good listener
Be present (in the moment)
Be curious
Be the biggest fan of all the characters
Put your story on-screen frequently, give people the opportunity to react to it and join in on it (this can be as simple as "my character's body language changes at the mention of 'home')
Create opportunities for the other characters to have their story on-screen (ask them questions! if you know what the character's buttons are and it makes sense in the moment, press them! listen to what they're saying, pay attention to what they're doing, and react to it)
Interact with the world! Interact with each other! And make these things mean something to your character!
Your character should make mistakes. Mistakes create opportunity for everyone.
If there's a genre, or theme, play toward them earnestly.
The more you RP, the better you'll get at it! It's a process and that's okay!
my little tip for knowing whether your character is Active vs Reactive: if the story were a musical, do they have an I Want song? do they have multiple moments for songs within the narrative? have they shared a duet with another character? do their songs change, evolve? songs happen for important moments in a musical so if you're not contributing to important moments, it may mean you're reacting more than you're acting. which is fine if you're playing a game solo and are granted access to the narrative by virtue of being the designated main character, but because RPing is collaborative storytelling, everyone should be doing their part!

Mmm, hello little things. My name is Cassius, one of the Demon Lord's castle servants. I handle the nights here, and well...it's rather boring, so I thought I'd entertain myself a little. Feel free to bother me; I don't bite hard.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Anon List / OOC Shit / Known Cass Lore
Rules~
1). No NSFW asks - but flirtatious asks are fine.
2). RPs are allowed (for the time being).
3). Be respectful. Hateful shit will get you blocked.
4). Cassius can be a little mean-spirited. This is not indicative of disliking you as a person - it's all for the sake of fun.
4.5). Cassius may also use pet names, such as "little one" or "little thing". If you prefer him not to use such terms when answering your ask, leave a little ooc note at the bottom of your ask. (It can be as simple as "no pn".)
5). OOC moments will be marked to the best of my ability.

The pages in this category are redirects from names that are unsuitable for inclusion in a printed version of Wikipedia. To add a redirect to this category, place {{Rcat shell|{{R unprintworthy}}}} on the second new line (skip a line) after #REDIRECT [[Target page name]]. For more information follow the links. Never substitute redirect template(s), nor place them on soft redirects.
See also the complete list of redirect templates and the redirect style guide.
This is a maintenance category, used for maintenance of the Wikipedia project. It is not part of the encyclopedia and contains non-article pages, or groups articles by status rather than subject. Do not include this category in content categories.
This is a tracking category. It builds and maintains a list of pages primarily for the sake of the list itself. They are not part of the encyclopedia's categorization scheme.
This category is hidden on its member pages—unless the corresponding user preference (appearance → show hidden categories) is set.
These categories can be used to track, build and organize lists of pages needing "attention en masse" (for example, pages using deprecated syntax), or that may need to be edited at someone's earliest convenience.
These categories also serve to aggregate members of several lists or sub-categories into a larger, more efficient list (discriminated by classifications).
"Unprintworthy" redirects are redirect pages on Wikipedia that aid online navigation, but would have little or no value as pointers to target articles in a hard-copy book. The name of a redirect may be unprintworthy for a number of reasons, including being nearly identical to the name of the target page, containing typographical errors, or not being encyclopaedic. Redirects are not unprintworthy just because the name may be offensive to some, unless the name is also not encyclopaedic.

Last night I got high and wrote a program to find all of the unused elemental symbols. It turns out there’s 585 of them and it’s much less interesting the next day.
One interesting finding: I couldn’t be bothered to generate all possible one and two letter strings, so I asked ChatGPT to write me code that would do all that for me. It worked surprisingly well!

Got an egg for me? Anything that would help out in the shop would be much appreciated, but nothing too big or aggressive since i live in a smaller residence with lots of pokemon

There's plenty of smaller Pokémon out there that could live peacefully with others even in small areas. But I need to know about these other Pokémon and I need to know about your shop and what you need them to do."
