Sir David Suchet on the gifts he received from Agatha Christie's Poirot tv series → Capital Theatres interview, January 12 2024
"I know how fortunate I am to have had the opportunity to play such an astonishing character over all these years, and to see him blossom so dramatically around me, to see his exploits dubbed into more than fifty languages and broadcast in almost every country in the world. It is amazing, humbling, and the greatest present that I could ever have been given." - David Suchet, Poirot and Me

Hastings: Doesn't the town look good at this time of year, Poirot? Poirot: Yes, one can always tell when the summer, it is arrived. Hastings: It's in the air, eh? Poirot: No, Hastings, it is in the speed of your driving.

The body had been removed not long before, the police having concluded their examination. "That is annoying, " I murmured to Poirot. "Who knows what clues they may have destroyed?" My little friend smiled. "Eh -- eh! How often must I tell you that the clues come from within? In the little grey cells of the brain lies the solution of every mystery." - Agatha Christie, "The King of Clubs"

“What beautiful gardens, Monsieur Poirot. It is so good of you to escort me.” “I wanted to bring you somewhere that was worthy of you.” “You mustn’t flatter me, Monsiuer Poirot. You will make me cry.”

"The more I did so [spent time reading Poirot stories], the more the little man entranced me. There were so many foibles, so many little habits that some people found hard to understand, so many mannerisms - his need for order, his dislike for the country, his determination to carry a silver 'Turnip' pocket watch wherever he went. Each was as idiosyncratic as the next, and each was fascinating. [..] I started to write my private list of Poirot's habits and character. I called it my 'dossier of characteristics'. It ended up five pages long and detailed ninety-three different aspects of his life. I have the list to this day - in fact, I carried it around on the set with me throughout all my years as Poirot, just as I gave a copy to every director I worked with on a Poirot film." - David Suchet, Poirot and Me
