So, I’m finally starting to get an actual feel for my coworkers at the new job (honestly after three months you would really fucking hope so) but the reality is that every day is so freaking busy that there’s really not TIME to make lame dad jokes or chitchat because they all come back to the office either right as I’m leaving or well after the fact. And if I call them, it’s all pretty straightforward and all about the jobs for the day. Yaayyy construction.

The issue I have is with customers who are in our specific industry…I’m sorry but any kind of fountain beyond a birdbath you fill up from a pitcher (so, has a pump and requires filling daily or being on a system connected to the sprinklers) is going to be expensive.

There are really good environmental reasons to have a pond, or pondless waterfall/stream thing (bees, other insects, birds, deer and other wildlife in certain locations etc.) but the reality is that you are either running that feature off of a well, which is quickly and easily depleted, or you’re on city water and have an enormous bill.

These things are expensive to maintain. Check ups, regular maintenance, pump replacements. All of that can easily add up to $2400 just in one chunk, never mind over a year (yearly maintenance, so the three big services of spring cleaning, fall prep, and actual winter storage)

I love educating customers, but holy fuck do you have any idea how many people are like “what do you mean a contained eco system?” Or or or, bought a house three months ago and have ZERO idea on what to do???

Fuck.

I like working with people, I like helping people find the things they need, I genuinely like educating people.

Even the customers that will literally NOT crawl the fuck back out of my ass are okay as long as it’s not two of them in the same hour.

But fuck these rich mother effers that can drop three times my entire mortgage payment as a 50% deposit to fix a pond that literally costs them $3k a year just to maintain

On the plus side, rich customers are surprisingly nice and understanding? As long as they aren’t trying to sell a $3M house.

I love dealing with the fish all day everyday, but I don’t know if this is the right fit. I want to give it at least a year and try and get sassy to see what can get done, but getting sassy in the first three months seems like a bad move.
