Disclaimer: @llamagoddessofficial 's response a few weeks ago about MC drifting at sea makes my mind go brrr-
But you know what else makes mind go brrr? The fact that I cannon Skulls glow to be the same colour as that glowing Algae-
With the ocean on fire it's hard to see the darkness.
Hard to see the way in which the floor is hundreds of kilometres below you. Hard to remember you aren't hovering when the sky's doubled by the vast ocean. When your boat's drifting on a pool of citrine and rubies and spinel. Your small vessel, tarp, and self muddling an otherwise perfect view.
It feels like you're the only thing that exists.
Moments like these - without your friendly shark and silly orca around - moments lying in wait - remind you of your loneliness. Drifting in the ocean and burning in the setting sun, your boat and you ugly outliers. They remind you that death is a hungry master and you scarcely escaped becoming his appetizer.
You're the only one that survived and every second in alone is a stinging reminder.
You sit and stare, with nothing else to do. Limbs aching from being curled too long. Body never still in the bobbing of the waves. The last of the sky fire caressing your boat like an old lover - taunting you in the lights prolonged farewell - when you start to see it.
A new colour blossoming along the tips of the waves. Trimming the ocean in a lace of ghostly blue. Each crash stirring a brilliant bloom. Fighting off the darkness creeping in. And instead floating on waters of spinel and ruby and citrine, you find yourself drifting in the center of the universe.
Blue.
Blue.
Blue.
Perhaps it's been too long since you last had your water ration. Perhaps you've been to exposed to the sun. Perhaps you're high in the face of the sublime. But your body is unraveling for the first time in hours and energy you thought long gone is bubbling out your chest in peals of laugher.
An algae bloom.
Your hands - skin dry and pale - are sinking into the depths. Each flick of your wrist stirring up the beautiful blue. This light enchanting and soft - not beating you like the sun does during the day. It's an energy content to exist - drifting wherever the waves takes it - surrounding you in its comfort.
Its traveling with you you aren't alone-
With this your laughter - bubbling burning, one of the best feelings in a long time - begins leaking out your eyes. Your pain and joy mix together in concerto, overtaking the crashing waves. Your tears join the ocean - salt water into salt water - mixing the brights of blue and darkest of black. You're grasping at the ocean - splashing, spraying, sloshing - getting any reaction you can from the colony of microorganisms. Hoping that by holding the algae close, you could dissolve into seafoam and join their family.
But with every scoop they melt out of your palms. Their light dying if you cradle them too close and still. They won't have you.
Alone Alone ALONE-
The cold water burns as you reach farther and farther into the glowing blue. Submerging your arms into the darkness and drawing your face closer to the water. You can taste the spray of the water - your lips practically kissing the surface - when you start to see it.
Beads of blue unraveling in time with the ocean. Inky limbs darker than the depths. A singular gem - red red red - reflecting your face.
You aren't alone-
And the ocean grabs back.
