Note
what would have happened if sun chose the wrong person during the doppelgänger stand off? Would the doppelgänger keep that life or would it still get bored and chose another in a week?
The doppelgänger would find a way to slip away from the demonic cryptid before they realized what mistake they made. Doppelgängers do not keep one face for long. They move on quickly to the next victim.
Not that Cryptid Eclipse would allow the monster who tricked them so severely to go unpunished.

I finished a booook (it's for school but oh well it's still good)
It's called The Water Dancer by Ta-Nehisi Coates
It's about a guy named Hiram who is a slave and his job is to be his (white) half brother's servant. Except the brother dies and Hiram's life is precarious so he decides to leave with the woman he loves and shenanigans ensue.
TW for vague description of sexual assault and ah....racism.
And also, spoilers under the cut.
So here are my random thoughts about the book.
My teacher made us look for the symbolism of names. Some names are ironic some are literal. Like Thena, Hiram's mother figure, and Sophia, his gf, means wisdom. Those are literal. And Hiram's name means exalted brother which is ironic because he's a slave. Maynard (his white brother) means brave and courageous which is ironic because he's an ick. Howell means remarkable or eminent and I can't decide if that has a meaning or not.
And because my personality is a mix of all of my favourite female characters lettuce talk about my favourite female character, Sophia herself. Sophia is one of the strongest female characters I've ever seen. She goes through so much but she never loses her love or her self worth. And that's what I love about her because I aspire to be like that. (Well the self worth part mostly)
Like, this girl has had her agency ripped away from her every single weekend for years, eventually gets an entire baby from it, then the man that did it has he nerve to ask for her hand in marriage like he didn't consummate it already without her consent. And she still knows good and well that she, and her baby, deserve so much better and she's not afraid to take risks to make it. But at the same time she doesn't settle for pre-development Hiram who sees her as his property. He has to get a redemption arc.
Also Hiram and Sophia are definitely up there in my top favourite ships. Also Corrine and Hawkins 😯
Speaking of Corrine and Hawkins. There's an amazing quote but I don't have the book on me right now. Basically Hiram says that Corrine hates slavery more than she has ever loved a slave. And that hit so hard. Because Corrine does so many horrible things for the cause. She causes a whole street to be destroyed for the crimes of one man. She lets Hiram casually be hunted for sport just to make sure he can teleport (oh yeah, and he can teleport). She lets him live with the crushing guilt of sending Sophia Natchez-way when goodie is at Lockless the whole time. I really don't like her but I think she and Hawkins are perfect for each other because I think he's the only one in the novel who's been through enough to hate slavery as much as she does. Speaking of which my theory is that he got SA-ed as well but eh. They really don't say.
Also I love the epigraphs. Definitely gonna be included in my essays.
Back to fangirling. Harriet Tubman. Is a character in this book. She can also teleport and they call her Moses. She is wise. She is strong. I love her almost as much as I love Sophia. I will be keeping her close in my heart.
Ok that's my review for now. I'll be reading this book a lot more until my exams so if I have any more thoughts I'll share them here.
Sincerely,
Monica~
