Sonny watched as you propelled out the door. He had put the pieces together, you had to be pregnant. That would explain no missing pads from your desk, the vomiting, the meeting with Olivia. He just wished you'd come to him first. That was his baby, after all.

You walked up to the beautiful brownstone that had been your home for most of your life. It made you miss living in Brooklyn, where everything seemed quieter. With your siblings gone from the house, it was only your mother and father inhabiting the three-bedroom house.

You walked up the steps and twisted your key, knowing both of your parents would likely be there. Your mom worked part-time at Mount Sinai Hospital and your dad was a retired NYPD Deputy Chief. He was beloved through the entire department, so he often came back for guest-speaking gigs or the occasional training course.

"Hey, sweetie! Good to see you!" your dad exclaimed as you entered the foyer. He stood up from his computer chair and walked over to give you a hug.

"Is that you, (y/n)? Oh, welcome home!" your mom exclaimed, getting up from where she had been reading the paper on the couch.

"It's good to be home, I missed both of you!" You smiled, walking into the living room. You wanted to rip the bandaid off.

"How's the new job? Are you liking SVU? William Dodds told me that you're doing exceptional, an even higher success rate with cases than when you were with Narcotics. I told him, 'that's my girl!'" your dad grinned proudly.

"I really love it there so far, it's hard work but very rewarding and a lot of fun," you answered honestly, sitting down on a chair in the living room. Your parents followed suit, sitting next to each other on the couch.

"I have something I need to talk to you both about," you sighed, looking down at your hands. You were thinking of how you should phrase this so your parents didn't flip out.

"I had sex a couple months ago. I didn't know until afterwards but the guy didn't use a condom, and I just found out that I'm pregnant. I made an appointment today at the women's clinic. For an abortion," you said, saying the last part quietly.

You looked over at your parents. Your dad had tears in his eyes and your mother looked shocked.

"I-I don't know what to say," your mom sputtered.

"Who is the baby’s father?" your dad asked evenly.

"You don't know him," you said quietly.

"We'll lend you the money, I know you just put down your deposit," your dad offered, pulling out his wallet. He grabbed two hundreds out.

"You heard her, the guy lied to her."

"I've got the rest in my office, let me grab it," your father said, getting up from the couch and ambling into his home office.

"I'm ashamed of you, young lady. We didn't raise you like this," your mother sneered, crossing her arms over her chest and avoiding your eyes.

"Mom, I didn't know he didn't use a condom."

"You gotta check first!"

"He was a lot bigger than me, okay? I couldn't stop him!" you cried.

Your mom whipped her head around to look at you, eyes wide. You could tell that she now fully grasped the situation.

Thankfully, your father came in and slipped the rest of the bills into your hand with a small, sympathetic smile.

"If you need anything else, don't hesitate, okay?" your father said, and you nodded.

You hugged them both goodbye and headed out, ready for your next stop: the clinic.

Your hands shook as you exited the sub station, walking up the stairs and toward's the women's clinic. Your appointment wasn't for another half-hour, but you wanted to be early.

As you turned the corner, you noticed a familiar figure running towards you. You took a few cautionary steps back and began walking fast in the opposite way. You were freaking out, you didn't know what to do. How did Sonny know you were here?

"It's nothing, I'm just heading back to the precinct," you said, lying through your teeth.

"I used my badge, that's how. You know that abortion is a sin, right?" Sonny growled, staring down at you and pointing in your face.

"I don't care, Sonny! I don't want this baby, I never did! You raped me, did you know that's a sin? I'm getting an abortion whether you like it or not!" you screamed.

"I didn't rape you, we love each other! And where'd 'ya get the money, huh? Dear ol' daddy? NYPD's prized show pony," he laughed, "I remember reading about the MacMullins case, that drug and prostitution ring he busted back in '01? It'd be a real shame if more evidence came up, maybe something about how your daddy was in contact with those prostitutes too?"

"That's a lie, he would never!" you cried.

"Yeah, well, I know people. I'm sure you’d love it if a smear article popped up in the Post. Goodbye to that sweet pension, no more big speeches or fancy galas. Your father would be a public disgrace. Oh, and your mother? It's so easy to get nurses fired these days, just plant a couple'a illegal pills on her desk and voila! Don't even get me started on what I could do to 'ya siblings," he explained.

Through your tears, you could see the triumphant grin on his face. You hated his stupid face, you hated everything about him.

"What do you want from me?" you sniffled, wiping your eyes with the sleeve of your jacket.

"I want ‘ya to keep that baby and I want ‘ya to accept my marriage proposal."

"Your what?"

"We made a miracle. We created that life growing inside you, and I want you to know that I'm going to love you and this baby with everything I am, and I'll take care ‘a both of 'ya," he promised, taking your hands in his.

"What about my job? I don't wanna have to move departments again," you explained as you tried to wrap your head around Sonny's words.

"Oh, that's easy. I'm takin' a job at the DA's office, so you can stay at SVU. We'll have to disclose to our bosses though."

"Sonny, I-I can't marry you."

"Maybe not right now, but you'll warm up to the idea. Plus, 'ya don't want poor mommy and daddy to get caught up in a scandal, do 'ya?"

"Fine."

"Oh no, wait a sec," Sonny says, bending one knee to the concrete and pulling a small box out of his pocket.

"(Y/n) (y/l/n), would 'ya do me the honor of bein' my wife?" he asked.

"Yes, Sonny, just get up," you sighed, and Sonny slipped the engagement ring onto your ring finger. You had to admit it was beautiful, with one large diamond in the middle. You watched as he slipped a silver band onto his own ring finger.

"You like it? Mia and my sisters helped me pick it out. They're excited to have a little niece or nephew runnin' around at family gatherings. I know you'll get used to it too. We're gonna make great parents," Sonny said, pulling you into a hug.

He gets the call around 3:00am. Walter always answers as quiet as possible even though you wake up every time without fail. You’ve always been a light sleeper, unfortunately.

He heads into the bathroom to take a quick shower and you make your way to the kitchen to start a pot of coffee. He finds you there pouring black coffee into a thermos before handing it to him with a smile.

He grabs your waist with his unoccupied hand and pulls you into a deep kiss. You bring one hand up to hold his scruffy cheek, and you scratch lightly at his beard as he pulls away.

“Come home in one piece?” You say as you always do. He nods, pressing a kiss to your forehead as he holds you against him.

He pulls away and heads to the door, grabbing his keys from the hook by the doorframe. You blow him a kiss as he closes and locks the door, and then you’re alone.

You take a sip of your own coffee before glancing at the clock on the microwave. 3:30 - you certainly weren’t going to be able to get back to bed, so you might as well answer some work emails while your up. You shrug and head into your home office to get a head start on your day.

The address he’s given takes him to the parking of of an abandoned strip mall toward the edge of town. The red and blue flashing lights of the half a dozen or so police cars surrounding the crime scene are jarring at first given the late hour, but he ignores then and parks, making his way to the line of yellow police tape.

Chase is already there, talking with a police officer as she takes notes. Walter nods a thank you to the officer that lifts the tape for him and makes his way to the body in the middle of the chaos.

“What do we have?” He asks gruffly to no one in particular.

Chase ends her conversation the man and turns to Walter as a forensic photographer starts taking photos of the body.

“A woman, possibly late 20’s, early 30’s. She seems to have had her heart cut out of her chest,” she tells him. He crouched down next to the body as he slips on a rubber glove. Sure enough, the low cut dress the woman is in shoes a large gaping hole where her heart should be. It’s a clean cut with minimal tissue damage and bleeding.

“Who found her? He asks as he glances up at Chase. She flips back through her notes briefly.

“Couple of teenagers came out her to do donuts in the parking lot and drink. They saw the body and called it in.”

Walter nods, turning the body’s head left and right to assess the skin.

“It looks like she was killed before they took the heart.” He states. Chase nods in agreement and he slips the skirt of the dress the woman is wearing up passed her thighs. He hates doing this part, but it needs to be done.

“It’s doesn’t look like she’s been raped, but let’s have the ME run a kit just to be safe.” He tells the closest officer.

Walter grunts lightly as he gets up from his crouched position, watching as the bag crew brings a stretcher out. 

He takes one final look at the body, nodding to Chase before making his way to the car to head to the precinct. Time to ID the victim.

You wave to Nancy at the front desk as you head into the police department, smiling at officers as you go. You’re well known by everyone here. Most were surprised that the gruff detective Walter Marshall had a wife, and were even more surprised to find out that you were one of the sweetest people on the planet.

Not that any of them would admit it (especially not to Walter), but they all had a bit of a thing for you.

Eyes follow you as you make your way to the homicide department, smiling wide when you see Rachel at her desk, typing away at her computer. Walter is absent, and you set the bag of food you’re carrying on his desk, rummaging around for a moment before grabbing what you need.

Her stomach grumbles and you laugh at her as she sends you a playful glare. You’ve always been close, ever since she became Walters partner. She was worried at first that you would think of her as a threat to your and Walter’s relationship, but she was pleasantly surprised that you both his it off so quickly.

“Hey, beautiful! Thank you for the food. He’s in the back talking to the ME.” She unwraps her sandwich and takes a huge bite, groaning in happiness when she realizes it has her favorite toppings.

A hand suddenly reaches around you and grips your hip as a large body presses against your side. Your about to tell off whatever new kid decided to cop a feel when a whiskery pair of lips presses to your temple in a kiss before letting go. You smile widely as Walter releases you to sit heavily in his chair.

“Hi handsome! I brought you your favorite.” He groans in approval as he pulls it out of the bag, sending you an appreciative look before glaring at something behind you. You furrow your brows and turn around slightly, watching a young officer avert his gaze from you.

“Oh,” you say, turning back to Walter. “Do you think you’re gonna be home for dinner?” He leans back in his chair, one arm resting on the top of the back of the chair. His black sweater that he always seems to be wearing accentuates his burly figure and you look on appreciatively.

“Not sure yet. We’re still working on an ID for our victim, so I’m not sure when I’ll be finished here tonight,” he replies gruffly.

You nod in understanding, coming to stand behind him as you put your hands on his shoulders. He’s not always one for PDA, but he always welcomes your touch.

“That’s ok. Just keep me posted, ok?” He nods and you kiss his cheek lightly. I’ll see you when I see you. Bye Rach!” You wave to them both as you head out, feeling Walter’s eyes follow you.
