We are working on creating Transformer v4 for Prestashop 1.7

We’ve finished re-writing the theme for 1.7. We are working re-creating demo sites, adding several new demos for new features and writing documentations etc. Our another theme “Panda theme v2” would be released first on February, and then Transformer theme v4 for 1.7. Here are some things about 1.7.

First thanks for Prestashop development team’s hard work, 1.7 is great, I like it, but it is still not stable, my suggestion is that do not use it on productive sites now. Since 1.6 and the theme are quite stable, you can still use them for a long time, 1.6 will continue to be maintained by Prestashop developers for two years after the release of 1.7 .

All themes must to be re-written to work on 1.7.

Things for modules are much easier, it means modules can be compatible with 1.7 within days.

According to the latest news, Prestashop developers are upgrading the one-click upgrade module to work with the transition to version 1.7 data only, which means you don’t not need to recreate your whole site but the front office.

Re-writing the theme gives us a change to make the theme better.

1.7 does not have “Product Comments”, “Whishlist” and “Customer loyalty and rewards” modules, I don’t know if they have plans to add those modules. We have plans to create a “Product Comments” module.

Open the extracted folder that includes “prestashop.zip” file. Upload this file to your server through cPanel’s File Manager or using an FTP client.

Note: The uploaded package should be placed under the “public_html” directory, which is the web root folder for your account, or alternatively under a subdirectory of it. When you finished uploading the archive, extract it there.

Step 2: Create a new database

You should create a database to run PrestaShop setup wizard.

From cPanel dashboard, select MySQL Database (if you’re using Cpanel). If your server has PHPMyAdmin, use it to create a new database.

Step 3: Run Prestashop 1.7 Installation wizard

Open http://your-website.com in a browser and the wizard will guide you through the setup process.

Firstly, you need to choose the language you want to use for your store. This will also set the default language for your PrestaShop installation. The other languages will also be available for you later.

Read the terms and condition and agree with it.

System compatibility: A quick check of all server parameters.

Store information: Now you can start customizing your shop. Give it a name, point out its main activity and personal information of the owner.

Fill in the blank with the database connection info: database server address, database name, login account and tables prefix.

When you’re ready, click the “Next” button to proceed.

The wizard will create the necessary tables and set up the store.

Step 4: Delete install folder & archive file

For security purpose, you need to delete the “install” folder inside the PrestaShop 1.7 installation folder and .zip archive file.
