thing is i need more yamabagiri "im not like the other girls" chougi being a loser bc thats what 85% of his character is supposed to be . this man gets flanked by two powerful dudes, he gets playfully shoved by one of them and instantly gets a light injury. hes the lv1 tyats surrounded by the swag of a bunch of lv80+ swords and still Did Not dial down his pride whatsoever bc he thought his team average level would cover up his 0 EXP ass so we know his math is definitely flimsy. like all his confidence stemmed from the tunnel vision of being able to beat down/break his replica but as scary as that sounds, the bitch had no other plan apart from that pvp. an argument could be made that he's got a secret agenda seeing he hasnt revealed that he's the jurakutei inspector but even that is so stupid bc hes convinced himself that no saniwa from all citadels ever have recognized him as the inspector. its one thing for chougi to overestimate himself but goddamn did the government itself not give him a more plausible backstory ......or even a different costume atleast. and he Yearns deeply ok,............I don't even mean solely in a jane austen way it's like he's the protagonist of some russian novel having intense hour long conversations with himself about interactions with other swords. outside he's handsome but inside he's terrified............like ho w do u explain his gaze latching onto nansen and making eye contact during that honmaru montage scene in jiden after his defeat.....on a balcony no less. eyes trailing after nansen's retreating figure . some romeo and juliet shit. in my mind kasen taught chougi the nihonbuyō that we see a bit of in kiden just so he'd be less awkward around jiroutachi after that First day's Event. he's as pathetic as dirt ok the sexiness is just an afterthought. this ran away from me

but actually it fits so well . chougi (probably) being an ootachi before kunihiro shortened him and left his inscription on him . the closest thing him having to relatives being the distant osafune and (ill-fortunedly) his equally celebrated replica , while manba, despite allllll his hesitations is adored by his brothers . chougi having nooothing else save his name bc even the myth of the yamanba was attributed to both of them and being the latter to manifest obviously making him a footnote to manba . and then him masking his identity during the investigation...
