ERIK & LYLE MENENDEZ in 1978.
“Did your dad like to play jokes on people?”
“Yeah.”
“And were those jokes sometimes cruel?”
“Yes.”
“And did you have a shower in Princeton Junction? The house between Monsey and Pennington, that had something wrong with it?”
“… um… yes, there was a wrench used to turn on the water.”
“Did you shower with your dad in the Princeton Junction house?”
“I did.”
“Did you shower with your dad in the Pennington house?”
“…yes.. sometimes.”
“Did you shower with your dad in the Beverly Hills house?”
“Sometimes.”
“When you showered with your dad in the Princeton Junction house what was the joke that he would play?”
“Um… I would be in there and sometimes my brother would be in there too… the three of us and uh… he would turn the water all the way to uh… cold sometimes and then he would just step out and hold us in and then the water would go from being warm to just freezing water and uh… we would be screaming and trying to get out and he would do this and he would be laughing and keep us in there, till my brother got so hysterical that uh… he was like, “all right.”
“Would he take the wrench with him?”
“Yeah, he took the wrench with him, that’s why we couldn’t… change it.”
“And, would you get upset about it?”
“…what?”
“Would you get upset when that happened?”
“Yeah, I would… the cold water was like a shock and uh… I would be… sometimes when those uh… things happened I didn’t… I reacted very differently than my brother, just really focused on… always very attentive to my dad’s reactions, look for a weakness or something like if he seemed like he was wavering I’d say, “come on dad let us out” and I’d get out that way.”
“How did your brother react?”
“My brother would just fall apart, start crying and hitting the door and making a big scene and that just… that’s what my dad wanted, he enjoyed it, that would make him laugh, then my brother would get to a point where he was screaming too loud and dad just, ya know… my brother it’s no fun.”
“How many times that happen?”
“It happened… only, that I remember, only in the Princeton Junction house um…”
“How long did you live there?”
“I lived there for one year and uh… that may be because it was the one that had the glass door, the other ones were curtains um… I was nine.”
“Now was this a regular stall shower or bathtub that has a shower head?”
“It’s a stall shower with a glass door, that you can just slip out and push closed.”
“Would your brother be reluctant to get in the shower after these things happened or would you be?”
“Yeah he would… Erik would not want to get in and uh… my dad would say, “oh come on, I’m not gonna do that to you” and coax him along and we would shower and then he would just do it and uh… he did that a lot and that was uh… I mean you could call it a joke but uh… he was uh… these were more like lessons of trust that I had lots of experiences with him regarding trust um…”
“What do you mean? Lessons regarding trust? What was the lesson you were to learn about trust?”
“That you could not trust anyone… you shouldn’t trust anyone and uh… that included your father and if you did… then it’s your fault whatever happens and that meant even if he had made promises… and I remember, I remember times when he’d be pushing me on the swing and I’d say, “dad ya know, I don’t want to go… it’s scary if you go too hard” and he would say, “oh no, I’m just gonna push you” cause I didn’t… I could of just swung myself and uh… I asked him to push me and he was pushing me and he just started pushing me so that the swing would get slack and then would come done on itself and I caught my arm in the chain and scraped up my arm and bruised my arm and I was crying and I said, ya know, “why?” and I was crying and he just said, “I’ve told you, you just don’t trust people like that, not even me.” and uh… there were other times too, there were other times when he would have uh… he would torment Erik with having him, uh… jump off things into his arms and he’d say, “come on Erik, now I’m gonna catch you.” and Erik would jump and he would catch him, he’d put him back on like the high counters we had in the kitchen, he’d catch him, put him back on and then uh… one of the times he wouldn’t catch him and my brother would just fall, face first… slam in the ground, immediately explode into tears, cry and uh… my dad would just… pretty much look at me, at least these were the times I remember he’d look at me and say, “you see, you just don’t trust anybody.” and uh… I don’t know if he was preparing me for life, that’s the sense I got, just preparing me for life.”
— Lyle Menendez direct examination by his attorney Jill Lansing regarding the cruel jokes his father would play on him and Erik as children

”My dear Aaron,
My patience is almost exhausted. I have been waiting for you this month past. Here I am, a pensioner upon the bounty of my good friend General Morris, and am likely to continue so, unless you are kind enough to come and carry me away. This is the fifth or sixth letter I have written you on the subject. What can be the reason of the great delay in forwarding letters by the post? Your last was above a fortnight old before it got to Princeton; and, upon inquiry, Daddy Plumb informs me the riders are ordered to ride forty miles a day during the season. Must I attribute it to the fatality which has already separated us, and, I fear, is determined to put an eternal bar to our junction? Such an event would blast all my hopes of future happiness. My dear Aaron, I want words to express my pleasure in anticipating the satisfaction of retiring from the cares of the world with you, and living in all the simple elegance of ancient philosophers. We should make a rapid improvement in every branch of useful literature; and when we came to act our parts on the theatre of the world, we might excite admiration, and, what would be infinitely more pleasing to us, we should be better men and better citizens.”

age: 36
gender: cis male
pronouns: He/Him
face claim: Vicky Kaushal
occupation: Criminal Lawyer
neighborhood: Skyline Heights
hometown: Naperville, IL
tldr; Akash Bedi is a 36-year-old criminal lawyer in Devil’s Junction, known for his sharp intellect, charisma, and high-profile clientele. Originally from Naperville, Illinois, he attended Princeton and Harvard Law, where his ambition and resilience set him apart. While he’s built a thriving legal practice, his affiliation with the Castenada family—adds complexity to his morally ambiguous world. A passionate Formula 1 fan, jazz enthusiast, and boxing aficionado, Akash balances his high-pressure career with yearly trips abroad, coffee-fueled days, and a lot of introspection. Despite his workaholic tendencies and stubborn streak, he’s a secret romantic with a love for literature and an unwavering loyalty to his family. Akash is a man torn between his pursuit of justice, personal values, and the compromises he makes to survive in the shadowy corners of Devil’s Junction.
b i o g r a p h y ;
Akash Bedi is a 36-year-old criminal lawyer in Devil’s Junction with a sharp mind, an imposing presence, and a reputation for winning high-profile cases. Born and raised in the suburban city of Naperville, Illinois, Akash grew up in a tight-knit, middle-class Indian-American family. His parents, both engineers, instilled in him a strong work ethic and the value of education. Akash was a bright and ambitious student, excelling in academics, debate, and sports, which earned him a full scholarship to attend Princeton University for his undergraduate studies.
At Princeton, Akash majored in Political Science with a focus on criminal justice reform. His time there solidified his interest in law and advocacy, particularly for marginalized communities. After graduating, he went on to earn his law degree from Harvard Law School, where he gained a reputation for his sharp intellect and eloquent courtroom presence. During his time at Harvard, Akash interned with prestigious law firms but also worked with nonprofits, providing legal aid to underserved communities.
After completing law school, Akash initially joined a top-tier firm in Chicago, where he quickly rose through the ranks. However, his life took an unexpected turn when he became acquainted with the Castenada family, a powerful gun-trading mafia operating out of Devil’s Junction. The connection was forged through a case where Akash successfully defended one of their key members, cementing their trust and earning their loyalty. Despite his moral qualms, Akash recognized the opportunities and power that came with this affiliation. Over time, he relocated to Devil’s Junction to build a practice that straddles both legitimate and shadowy legal work.
Akash is a complex individual, walking a fine line between right and wrong. While he genuinely believes in justice, his alliance with the Castenada family often forces him to defend morally ambiguous clients. This duality weighs heavily on him, and he struggles with the ethical implications of his work.
In Devil’s Junction, Akash has established himself as a go-to lawyer for those in trouble with the law. His office is located in a sleek, minimalist space downtown, reflecting his no-nonsense approach to his work. Despite his ties to the Castenada family, Akash is careful to maintain an image of legitimacy. He often takes pro bono cases to balance his reputation and assuage his guilt.
Outside of work, Akash enjoys boxing, a sport he picked up during his college years as a way to relieve stress. He also has a deep love for jazz and can often be found unwinding at local jazz clubs. His personal life, however, is complicated; he’s had fleeting relationships but struggles to let anyone get too close, fearing they might uncover the darker aspects of his life.
As a man caught between two worlds, Akash’s journey is one of constant conflict—between his moral compass, his loyalty to the Castenadas, and his desire to leave a legacy he can be proud of.
Positive Traits:
Charismatic: Akash has a natural charm and warmth that make people trust him easily, which serves him well in the courtroom and in personal relationships.
Resilient: He has a strong ability to persevere under pressure, whether it's in high-stakes legal cases or navigating personal challenges.
Negative Traits:
Stubborn: Akash can be inflexible in his opinions and strategies, often refusing to back down even when compromise would be beneficial.
Workaholic: His dedication to his career sometimes comes at the cost of his personal relationships, as he struggles to find a balance between work and life.
h e a d c a n o n s ;
Akash has been a passionate fan of Formula 1 racing since his teenage years. Sunday mornings are sacred to him during race season, and his favorite team is Ferrari (though he has a soft spot for McLaren). He dreams of attending the Monaco Grand Prix someday but hasn’t found the time yet.
Every year, Akash takes a big trip abroad to escape the stress of his career. He chooses a new destination each time, favoring places with rich history, vibrant cultures, or breathtaking natural beauty. Recent trips include exploring Istanbul’s bazaars, hiking in Patagonia, and indulging in Italian cuisine in Tuscany.
Akash is a devoted coffee drinker, relying on multiple cups of black coffee to power through long days. He claims he can “taste” the difference between average and high-quality beans and often jokes about opening a coffee shop when he retires.
He boxes regularly to stay in shape and release stress. It’s one of the few activities that allow him to clear his mind, and he secretly enjoys the adrenaline rush of a good sparring session.
Akash has a deep love for jazz music, a taste he developed during law school. His go-to escape is visiting local jazz clubs, where he often sits in a corner nursing a glass of whiskey, letting the music wash over him.
Akash is always impeccably dressed, favoring tailored suits and polished shoes. He believes appearance matters, especially when dealing with high-stakes clients and courtroom drama.
He has a small but carefully curated bookshelf in his apartment filled with law texts, crime thrillers, and existential philosophy. Dostoevsky’s Crime and Punishment resonates with him deeply, though it leaves him unsettled.
Despite his busy life, Akash makes an effort to stay in touch with his parents back in Naperville. He sends them thoughtful gifts and calls weekly, though he avoids discussing the murkier parts of his life.
Though Akash struggles with letting people into his life, he’s a hopeless romantic at heart.

Information Systems What is a Network? A network is defined in general as a “interconnected system of things or people”, but in electronics is defined as “a system of interconnected electronic components or circuits” (Princeton WordNet). What are the different types of Networks and how many? There are numerous types of networks. The above definition indicates that an individual desktop computer is a “network” of circuits and components like a hard drive, motherboard, etc. There are also information networks, where information itself is being networked. There are ad hoc networks, made and dropped quickly. There are computer networks, both wired and wireless. There are virtual private networks, which are emulations of LANs usually done over the Internet. What is the difference between wired and wireless network?A wired network is one which is connected together by cables, typically coaxial or Ethernet cables (whether they be 10, 100 or 1000 base-T, parallel or serial, etc.) A wireless network is connected by some kind of wireless transmission, usually a wireless router projecting a certain radio frequency. It is important to note that a wired network can have wireless components, say a wireless computer participating or a wireless printer, while a wireless network can and almost always do have wired components, like a final physical throughput (cable, DSL/phone lines, “satellite” - which is effectively a “wired” network for this discussion, etc.)Which frequency do we use for wireless network? What is fiber optics and how does it work?Light is used to encode information and send “bits” the same way a phone line can. They are sent over cables of tightly bound fibers, usually of a kind of fiber-glass, that act as a waveguide, a “light pipe” the same way a metal pipe can be used to act as a guide for water. Fiber optics are immensely fast because they have speed-of-light transmission. What is the difference between AMD and Intel processor? The maker. AMD and Intel have competed for different parts of the processor market over and over and are in a constant arms race for more clock cycles, more Hertz, etc. Their architecture is almost identical: “The nice thing about being computer enthusiast is that right now both AMD and Intel platforms support a lot of cross compatible hardware. Sure the CPU and motherboards are platform specific, but you can share DDR2 memory, videocards and other peripherals easily enough” (PC Stats). The common consensus is that Intel tends to make more expensive but higher quality cards while AMD more readily courts the discount market, but even this is not always true. Why is Intel more popular than AMD? Better brand promotion, marketing and longer reputation. They also tend to court the higher end of the market, which tends to give better market status.Which one came to the market first?Intel was founded in 1968 and created the x86 lines, the most famous of which is undoubtedly the Pentium. AMD was founded in 1969 and got into the semiconductor and processor business somewhat later than Intel. How many pins do we have in the processor? It varies from configuration to configuration. Some pin counts are in the double digits, some the triples, while the LGA Intel Core i7 has more than a thousand! Why does the manufacturer leave the last pin of the processor blank? Its to make sure that there is only one viable direction to put in the socket. Good computer design always is keyed to one orientation. What is the architecture of a databus?A databus transfers data between computer components, either within or among computers. It is thus the “net” of a network, the junctions. They used to be actual electrical buses, but now is any functionally similar system. They can be parallel, serial, self-repairable, etc. They often give better messaging speed at the cost of needing a network scheduling protocol.Works CitedPC Stats. AMD vs. Intel: What to Get? Which is Better? August 31, 2007.Princeton Wordnet. Network. Princeton. Read the full article

Transportation Hubs and Commuter Information: The New Jersey Advantage
Tumblr media
For New Jersey residents, one of the state's most valuable assets is its strategic location and robust transportation infrastructure. With seamless access to two major metropolitan areas—New York City and Philadelphia—New Jersey offers unparalleled connectivity that shapes both lifestyle and property values. Let's explore the transportation landscape that makes the Garden State an ideal place to call home.
NJ Transit: Connecting Communities
New Jersey's public transportation network is among the most comprehensive in the nation, with NJ Transit serving as its backbone. Here's how different regions benefit:
Northern New Jersey
Towns like Montclair, Summit, and Morristown enjoy frequent train service to NYC with commute times ranging from 35-60 minutes. The Bergen County and Main Lines connect communities like Ridgewood and Ramsey, while the Morris & Essex Lines serve affluent towns like Short Hills and Chatham.
Key Transit Hubs:
Secaucus Junction: The ultimate transfer station connecting multiple rail lines
Hoboken Terminal: Gateway to Manhattan via PATH trains and ferries
Newark Penn Station: Access to Amtrak, PATH, and multiple NJ Transit lines
Central New Jersey
The Northeast Corridor Line is the lifeline for towns like Princeton, New Brunswick, and Metuchen, offering express trains that reach NYC in under an hour. The North Jersey Coast Line serves communities along the shore, connecting places like Red Bank and Long Branch to both NYC and the beach.
Popular Commuter Towns:
Princeton Junction: Express trains reach NYC in 50-60 minutes
Metropark (Iselin): A major transit hub with abundant parking and express service
Westfield: Combines charming downtown with direct Raritan Valley Line service
Southern New Jersey
The River Line light rail connects Trenton to Camden, while multiple NJ Transit bus routes and the PATCO Speedline provide access to Philadelphia. Towns like Cherry Hill, Haddonfield, and Collingswood offer quick commutes to Center City Philadelphia.
Proximity to Major Cities
NYC Access Points
The Lincoln and Holland Tunnels connect Hudson County towns to Manhattan
The George Washington Bridge links Bergen County to upper Manhattan
The Outerbridge Crossing and Goethals Bridge connect Staten Island to central/southern NJ
Commute Times to Manhattan:
Hoboken: 10-15 minutes via PATH
Fort Lee: 20-30 minutes via GWB (without traffic)
Montclair: 35-45 minutes via Midtown Direct service
Princeton: 60-75 minutes via Northeast Corridor Line
Philadelphia Access Points
The Ben Franklin and Walt Whitman Bridges connect Camden County to Center City
I-95 provides direct access from towns along the Delaware River
Commute Times to Philadelphia:
Cherry Hill: 15-20 minutes via car
Haddonfield: 20 minutes via PATCO Speedline
Mount Laurel: 25-30 minutes via car
Princeton: 45-60 minutes via car or rail connections
Analyzing Suburban Commute Times
The pandemic has reshaped commuting patterns, with many professionals now prioritizing space and amenities over proximity to cities. This trend has increased interest in "further out" suburbs that offer more affordable housing with reasonable (though longer) commutes.
Emerging Commuter Towns:
Warren County: Towns like Hackettstown (90 minutes to NYC) now attract buyers willing to commute a few days per week
Burlington County: Communities like Moorestown offer spacious homes with 45-minute commutes to Philadelphia
Ocean County: Towns like Toms River provide shore living with feasible commutes via the Garden State Parkway
Transportation Access and Property Values
The relationship between transit access and property values is well-established in New Jersey real estate:
Premium for Transit-Oriented Development
Properties within walking distance (½ mile) of NJ Transit stations command 20-30% higher prices on average than similar homes without train access. Towns with vibrant, walkable downtowns surrounding transit hubs—like Montclair, Ridgewood, and Westfield—have seen consistent property appreciation even during market fluctuations.
Impact of Express Train Service
Communities with express train service to NYC or Philadelphia see even greater premiums. For example:
Summit homes near Midtown Direct service command 35-40% higher prices
Princeton Junction properties benefit from Northeast Corridor express trains
Haddonfield homes with PATCO access maintain stronger values than similar properties without transit options
Future Transportation Developments
Several major transportation projects on the horizon will likely create new real estate hotspots:
The Gateway Tunnel Project: Will increase rail capacity between NJ and NYC
Hudson-Bergen Light Rail extensions: Will enhance property values in eastern Bergen County
Glassboro-Camden Line: Will create new transit-oriented development opportunities in South Jersey

Grounds for Sculpture, Hamilton
Directions: From NY Penn Station, take the Trenton Line to Hamilton (second to last stop). From Hamilton Train Station, take the 608 bus to Sculptors Way. Then walk to the garden. You'll need change for the bus, couldn't get the bus ticket on the app. *Bus back to Hamilton Train Station can be unreliable, as the bus lines are in Central Jersey. On the bus stop back home (opposite of where you got dropped off), there's a bus # and a phone number. Text the bus # to the phone number to see when the bus will actually arrive. Sometimes Google Maps is spotty.
Notes: NJ's gem. If you want to see your favorite paintings brought to life in gigantic scale, this is the place to go. If you ever wanted to step in a Van Gogh or Renoir painting you should come here. This is the impressionist art lover's dream. They also got peacocks here. You can spend the whole day here but you can combine this trip to go to Princeton.
To go to Princeton: Take the bus back to Hamilton Train Station, then take the train to Princeton Junction. Princeton Junction is in West Windsor. From Princeton Junction, take the dinkey to Princeton. If you're waiting for the next dinkey and need to burn time, walk to Woori Mart. This could be a two day trip to be honest.
