Cardinals 'hopeful' chase for catcher leads to a preferred target, like A's Sean Murphy
Cardinals ‘hopeful’ chase for catcher leads to a preferred target, like A’s Sean Murphy
SAN DIEGO — In the market for an everyday catcher for the first time in a generation, the Cardinals spent the past month in trade discussions or conversations with candidates, even meeting with at least two free-agent possibilities, and they have arrived at the winter meetings aware of the long and short of the search. They’d welcome a long-term addition at catcher. They’re hopeful to have that…

'...Social media has played into this Irish invasion, with users fangirling over actors like Paul Mescal, Barry Keoghan, Andrew Scott, and Cillian Murphy. All of these men have been recognized for their work in critically acclaimed and/or popular films in 2023. Cillian Murphy is nominated for (and forecast to win) an Oscar for his role in Oppenheimer.
...this new male-driven phenomenon likely stems from the convergence of the two online trends: an overwhelming fan appetite for male celebrities in the “internet boyfriend” era, and a growing interest in Irish culture. The result is a super-online (and horny) generation of Hibernophiles.
...the modern romanticization of Irish men doesn’t seem to be pegged to one film or moment in time, and a cursory Google search pulls up a slew of articles declaring the purported pros of dating Irish men. These lists are not necessarily based on hard facts as much as cultural assumptions, and many of them, including one by Popsugar, emphasize the Irish’s supposed charm, good looks, chattiness, and love for their mothers...
Presumably, there’s a link between the idyllic postcard image many Americans have of Ireland — lush green pastures, poetry, music, and a friendly population — and the view of Irish men as ideal romantic partners. It has certainly helped that Americans and consumers worldwide have been inundated with images of handsome Irish men in popular culture, from former James Bond star Pierce Brosnan to One Direction member Niall Horan to scruffy sex symbol Colin Farrell. While interviewing Cillian Murphy on his podcast Armchair Expert in 2022, host Dax Sheppard raved about the “inordinate amount of handsome men” he encountered on a trip to Ireland...
The 1845 Irish famine meant a huge influx of immigrants to the US, and the men quickly gained a reputation as “feckless, uncultured, and prone to drunkenness and violence,” Burke explained. “That stereotype has been argued to have persisted to some degree right up to the era of John F. Kennedy.” Kennedy’s election, she says, was thought to signal the full assimilation of the Irish in America. (A shift that, in turn, brought us notable Irish Americans like Alec Baldwin, Sean Hannity, and Bill O’Reilly.)
This shift in perception represents the “flexible racial status of Irishness,” as Diane Negra, film studies professor at the University College Dublin, writes in the book The Irish in Us: Irishness, Performativity and Pop Culture. She expands that this is due to a complex history and ethnic identity that allows them to “oscillate between otherness and whiteness.” Likewise, Burke says white Irish people fit into a category of “non-vanilla vanilla” in the Western imagination.
For the American viewer, “Irish actors arguably evoke a kind of safe ‘exoticness,’” she said. “Being native speakers of English with a purportedly cute accent, they are just ‘foreign’ enough for mainstream taste.”
That newfound perception of Irish men as harmless and gentle feels connected to a wider trend that they’ve shown up in on the internet: the “babygirl.” The moniker has become a go-to term of endearment for grown men in Hollywood who are physically attractive and display pleasant traits. According to Mashable, it describes “when a man is being cute, comfortable in his masculinity, or weak in an evocative way.” This act of infantilization can be applied to a wide range of men, but it’s hard not to notice actors like Mescal, Keoghan, Murphy, and Farrell being popular recipients of this treatment online...
The Andrew Haigh film All of Us Strangers, starring Andrew Scott and Mescal, was on the precipice of Oscars glory, with Scott campaigning but failing to make it to the final stage for Best Actor. For months throughout awards season, though, Mescal and Scott were making the internet swoon in joint interviews and red-carpet appearances, demonstrating that their onscreen chemistry carried over into real life. The same attention was paid to Keoghan, who became more of a talking point throughout awards season for his role in the polarizing Emerald Fennell film Saltburn — not to mention that nude dance scene — than a realistic Oscars contender.
Last but not least, there’s Cillian Murphy, whose role in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer could very well win him an Oscar on March 10, after a near-sweep at the year’s major awards ceremonies. The standom and thirst for him on social media is particularly striking, given that he’s had a lengthy, mostly unsung career that hadn’t yielded huge starmaking moments before Oppenheimer, despite playing multiple side characters in Nolan’s filmography. Prior to playing the “father of the atomic bomb” last year, his most notable role as a leading man was as gangster Thomas Shelby in the BBC2 show Peaky Blinders, which ran for almost a decade and earned a strong Tumblr fan base.
Professor and author Christopher Shannon adds that the public’s affinity for Murphy is particularly fascinating, given that American audiences haven’t necessarily fallen in love with him through Irish cinema like previous Irish actors.
“What strikes me about someone like Murphy is that he has achieved his fame mostly in non-Irish roles,” he said. “Murphy is celebrated as an actor who happens to be Irish rather than as a distinctly Irish actor.”
Nevertheless, Murphy’s Irish identity seems to be part of his draw, based on how his online fan base interacts with him. Despite being rather reserved, the Batman Begins star has generated an entire mill of memes, many of them stemming from routinely unenthused interactions and a general “who gives a fuck?” attitude. In particular, it seems as though the internet enjoys the ways he firmly declares his Irishness.
One of his most viral moments is a clip of him repeatedly stating that he’s Irish after an interviewer refers to him and his Inception co-star Tom Hardy as British. Another popular image of Murphy shows the actor seemingly giving Prince Harry a dissenting glare as the cast lines up to meet him at the Dunkirk premiere. This could well just be Murphy’s natural expression (he’s not exactly known for looking cheery), but the internet interpreted Murphy’s look as proof of his disdain for the British monarchy...
Murphy has said that it’s a “good time to be an Irish actor” in Hollywood. At the same time, when asked how he felt about being the first Irish-born actor to win Best Actor at the BAFTAs last week, he seemed slightly exhausted by a sense of tokenism. “It means a lot to me to be Irish,” he answered a journalist. “I don’t know what else to say. Should I sing a rebel song?”
Of course, this quip only made the Murphy Hive fall in love with him more.'

Internment
"On January 11, 1940, the DOCR [Defence of Canada Regulations] were amended so as to permit preventive detention, internment before the fact of having committed a crime, ie. article 21. This meant that even though charges for precise offences might not hold up in court, communists could still be interned using vague terms. As well, should the police fail in making a DOCR charge stick, then the freed prisoner could quickly be interned. This situation applied to Ottawans Louis Binder and Arthur Saunders, and to westerners  Charles Weir, John McNeil, Pat Lenihan, Alex Miller, and Ben Swankey.
In June, 1940, via DOCR regulation 39C, the Communist Party and related  associations were made illegal. These associations included the Young Communist  League, the League for Peace and Democracy, which had succeeded the League to Fight  War and Fascism, and the Canadian Labour Defence League, as well as several pro-communist, ethnic associations: The Ukrainian Labour-Farmer Temple Association, the  Canadian Ukrainian Youth Federation, the Finnish Organization of Canada, the Russian  Workers and Farmers Club, the Croatian Cultural Organization, the Hungarian Workers  Club, and the Polish People’s Association. Membership in these organizations became illegal; it came to be the grounds most often used for internment.
The first internments took place on June 26, 1940, when Jacob Penner and John Navis, from Winnipeg, and Ottawans Louis Binder and Arthur Saunders were interned. Arrests for internment could follow at any time, but there were more active periods. On June 28 and 29, 1940, nine Montrealers as well as Nicholas Pyndus, from Trois-Rivières, and Robert Kerr and Fergus McKean, each from Vancouver, were interned. On July 8, 1940, seventeen Ukrainian Winnipegers were interned. On August 9, 1940, seven men  including five Montrealers were interned. On September 8 and 9, 1940, five more were  arrested for internment; on October 10, 1940, four more were interned. The last internment in Hull began on February 10, 1942 when Harvey Murphy was transferred from a Toronto prison.
The cases of Jacob Penner and Pat Sullivan provided important legal precedents about the question of habeas corpus. Were the governments and the police obliged to provide motives for the decision to intern someone, other than article 21 of the DOCR, whereby people presented a danger to the security of the state or the prosecution to the war, or article 39C, whereby people were members of an illegal organization? Jacob Penner was a highly-respected communist and municipal councillor in Winnipeg. After being interned in Kananaskis, Penner’s family hired a lawyer who successfully applied for habeas corpus , however, federal authorities simply held him during the summer of 1940 in an immigration centre in Winnipeg. In August, 1940, a federal appeals judge ruled that habeas corpus did not apply to DOCR article 21. Penner was returned to Kananaskis, providing an important precedent relative to internees from Western Canada.
In central Canada, Pat Sullivan, President of the Canadian Seamen’s Union, was arrested on June 18, 1940. The only explanation for Sullivan’s arrest offered to lawyer J. L. Cohen was Sullivan’s membership in the Communist Party, which the defendant denied. Cohen then launched unsuccessful habeas corpus proceedings in which an Ontario judge ruled that habeas corpus was not relevant since the detainer was not the minister of Justice, and the latter was not required to accept recommendations of a consulting committee considering the detention. Cohen was going to subject this tortured logic of the Ontario Appeals Court judge to the Supreme Court, but decided to desist when the federal government promised to improve the workings of the consulting committees, and to reveal more about the motives for Sullivan’s internment. Nevertheless, after considerable stalling by the minister of Justice, it became clear that the real reasons for Sullivan’s internment were strikes by the Canadian Seamen’s Union in 1938 and 1939, and especially in April, 1940, when Sullivan’s union closed shipping on the Great Lakes from the Lakehead to Montreal. Conciliation following this last strike was proceeding when Sullivan was arrested. Not only did Sullivan’s case show that habeas corpus was of no effect with respect to the internees, it also showed that for some internees, at least for Sullivan, the real motive of internment was union activity.
One suspects the considerable influence of C. D. Howe and his business colleagues working in Ottawa. This was also the case for several of Sullivan’s colleagues within the Canadian Seamen’s Union. A month after Sullivan was arrested, Jack Chapman, union secretary, was arrested while a few days later, Dave Sinclair, editor of the union’s newspaper Searchlight, was arrested for having written about the Sullivan case. Sinclair’s case also demonstrated farcically the incompetence of the RCMP. Sinclair was the nom de plume of David Siglar, a fact he did not hide. During his appeal before the consulting committee, the RCMP presented as evidence activities of someone unknown to Siglar named ‘Segal’, a common name among Jews. Siglar had no idea about whom or what the RCMP was talking not knowing the ‘Segal’ in question, but he did plead guilty to having known several people named ‘Segal’.
The case of Charles Murray, organizer for a fishermen’s union in Lockeport, Nova Scotia, a union affiliated with the Canadian Seamen’s Union, provided another example of how union activities might lead to internment. On June 15, 1940, Nova Scotia’s labour minister, L. D. Currie, sent a letter to Murray stating that:
…You are a communist and as such, deserve to be treated in the same manner as I would be treated if I endeavoured to carry on in Russia as you are doing in Nova Scotia. I warn you now to desist from your efforts to create industrial trouble, and I warn you too that your conduct will from now on be carefully watched and examined, and if I find out that you do not quit this sort of business, then it will be most certainly the worst for you. I am giving you this final word of warning. My advice to you is to get out of Lockeport and stay out…
A few days later, Murray was interned in Petawawa.
Other union leaders received similar fates to those of the leaders of the Canadian Seamen’s Union. Fred Collins had led a successful strike against furniture manufacturers in Stratford, Ontario. James Murphy was the leader of the Technical Employees Association of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, and was arrested in the middle of negotiations. Orton Wade was negotiating with meat packing companies in Winnipeg when he was arrested. Bruce Magnuson was a union leader from Port Arthur, where he was local president of the Union of Lumber and Sawmill Workers. Unfortunately, his  federal MP was none other than C. D. Howe. In August, 1940, Howe responded to one of Magnuson’s colleagues complaining about the internment of Magnuson.
For very obvious reasons, the normal course of the law must be supplemented by special powers. Otherwise, the effort of the government to suppress fifth-column activities would be of no avail. The now tragic account of fifth-column activities in Norway, the Netherlands, Belgium, and France is ample proof of the inadequacy of the ordinary peacetime machinery of the law in  controlling subversive elements… Persons who are considered to be friendly towards Canada’s enemies, or who in any way interfere with Canada’s war effort, are recommended for internment on the strength of evidence assembled by the Force (RCMP).
The motive given for Magnuson’s internment was his membership in the Party, but after the Party began supporting the war effort, Howe wrote to Magnuson in October, 1941:
… do you think that the ends of justice would be served by your release merely because circumstances have caused a change of front by the Communist Party? You were interned because you were out of sympathy with Canada’s war effort, and because you were an active member of an organization which sought to impede that effort.
The case of Clarence Jackson also demonstrated the long arm of Howe. On June 11, 1941, Howe wrote to Justice minister Lapointe, demanding that Jackson be arrested.
Please permit me to call your attention to the activities of one C. S. Jackson, who is undoubtedly one of the most active trouble makers and labour racketeers in Canada today. Jackson has been expelled from the Canadian Congress of Labour as a Communist. He has  been responsible for strikes at the R.C.A. Victor plant, the Canadian General Electric plant, and he is now boring in to the Canadian Westinghouse plant at Hamilton. The Westinghouse plant is the most important war manufacturer in Canada, having contracts for anti-aircraft guns, naval equipment, and a wide variety of electrical work important to our production. A strike at Westinghouse would directly stop many branches of our munitions programme. I cannot think why Canada spends large sums for protection against sabotage and permits Jackson to carry on his subversive activities. No group of saboteurs could possibly effect the damage that this man is causing. I feel sure that this is a matter for prompt police action. I suggest that responsible labour leaders can supply any information that you may require on which to base police action.
There is evidence, furthermore, according to the biographer of Jackson, that the Canadian Congress of Labour was complicit in the internment of Jackson. Jackson was arrested on June 23, 1941, but was released from Hull six months later owing to pressure by the American section of his union.
Others were interned for strange reasons. Rodolphe Majeau, a member of the Canadian Seamen’s Union, was interned for having aided Communist candidate Évariste Dubé during the federal election of 1940, when the Party was still legal, an example of a retroactive charge. Scott McLean, a Cape Breton millwright was interned because of dynamite he had in his possession when arrested, dynamite he was using to explode rocks and a manure pile on his farm. John Prossack, from Winnipeg, an elderly Ukrainian  charged with membership in the Party, was not in the least involved in politics. Prossack believed that he was interned owing to a bad relationship with his former son-in-law, a paid police informer. Muni Taub, a Montreal tailor left the Party at the end of 1939,  one of the many Europeans disgusted at the Hitler-Stalin pact. Nevertheless, motives given for Taub’s internment included his writing for a leftist, Jewish newspaper; his  membership in the banned Canadian Labour Defence League, and most of all, Taub’s challenge of the constitutionality of Duplessis’ Padlock Law during the 1930s."

Members of Congress reintroduced legislation Thursday that would create a code of ethical conduct for the Supreme Court, adding to pressure on a court facing criticism over high-profile leaks and conflicts of interest.
The congressional action comes after the American Bar Association on Monday adopted a resolution urging the Supreme Court to enact a code of judicial ethics similar to what judges in lower courts are beholden to.
“The absence of a clearly articulated, binding code of ethics for the justices of the Court imperils the legitimacy of the Court,” the ABA wrote.
Senators cited the role of Justice Clarence Thomas’ wife, Ginni Thomas, in the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection, as well as the leaked draft opinion in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization that overturned Roe v. Wade in June 2022, and “concerning credible reports” that Justice Samuel Alito was involved in leaking information, as reasons why the court’s legitimacy is under threat and reform is needed.
Besides the high-profile examples, Justices “have also filed inaccurate financial disclosures, attended partisan events, and accepted travel and lodging paid for by political advocacy organizations with business before the court,” Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) and others wrote in a press release for the Supreme Court Ethics Act.
Rep. Hank Johnson (D-Ga.) reintroduced the Supreme Court Ethics, Recusal, and Transparency Act as companion legislation in the House.
“The Supreme Court is one of the nation’s most vital institutions, so people are justifiably shocked when they learn that there is no code of conduct for the Supreme Court, even though there is for every other federal judge and member of Congress,” said Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.), the top Democrat in the House Judiciary Committee, in the press release.
This isn’t the first time the Court has been under scrutiny over the issue. Justice Elena Kagan said at a House budget hearing in 2019 that Chief Justice John Roberts was studying the possibility of an ethics code and there were “pros and cons,” but it was “being thought very seriously about.”
The issue remains under study and consideration at the court, The New York Times and CNN reported Thursday, citing anonymous court sources. HuffPost has reached out to the Supreme Court for comment.
In 2011, Roberts wrote that the Supreme Court was unique and pushed back against having a code of conduct apply to it.
“All Members of the Court do in fact consult the Code of Conduct in assessing their ethical obligations,” he wrote, saying that the code for lower court judges is one of the tools that justices use for guidance.
He also said that Supreme Court Justices consider recusing themselves from cases, but unlike lower courts, there is no higher court to review their decisions, and also no pool of other judges to fill in since there are only nine justices.
Brian Fallon of Demand Justice, a group seeking to reform the Supreme Court, told MSNBC that the reintroduced Senate legislation to have justices follow the code of ethics for lower courts is the “least we can do,” but the Supreme Court won’t go for it.
“Because they think they should be above reproach, they won’t surrender the power to any outside entity or official to do the enforcing of that code of ethics,” he said.

I’m sensitive, a weeper. If you're uncomfortable around emotion, I'm probably not for you ;(
I don't always get the joke. Sometimes I take things the wrong way. Executive Dysfunction can be frustrating. Please don't assume I'm simple. I do have standards. I do have ideologies. Sometimes my ire is more than appropriate when someone is being rude, a bully, or just a dick.
I can act like a mom or a big bro. I may encourage you to hydrate more, or eat more protein and fruit. It's because I care, not because you're not meeting standards.
Sometimes I'm very quiet and have not much at all to say. It's probably not. I'm an introvert and need to recharge. Sometimes just sitting quietly together doing our own thing is as nourishing as chatting about all the things while adventuring about town.
I nap A LOT. I sleep a long time. I can sleep almost anywhere, at any time. I'm a night owl IF I get a second wind, but I can still sleep late every. single. day. I'm more of a mid-day person than either morning or night person ;) See link to know more about the Wolf Chronotype.
I am loyal to a fault.
Friends don’t lie.
Please don’t lose my trust once you gain it.
I am moderately toy-experienced as a Top, but VERY inexperienced as a bottom. Can you teach me gently?
I don't own any formal attire and have a bitch of a time finding business-wear that fits well. My "dressed up" is pretty casual (clean, dark or black jeans, button up shirt, and blazer) and I'm a little embarrassed about it, but I'm trying to find better clothes.
I’m re-learning to do my makeup. I can always use pointers/tips/help.
Let's not be too shy about sharing our views and opinions on sensitive subjects. We may have to agree to disagree on some things. And if anything becomes a dealbreaker, so be it. Let's move on amiably. But please don’t assume that being a Christian who votes "Centrist" and has Independent friends who own guns means I’m a right-wing NRA “Trumper”. You may be surprised what MY views actually are when we get a chance to talk things out. And I'm open to new perspectives. I live with ambivalence. I prefer to make decisions knowing both/all sides to an argument.
Small talk can be awkward. Feel free to ask the deep TMI stuff early on. It's easier to learn about each other now than end up heartbroken too late. I’m really good at oversharing, too. I often can’t tell if you're offended and being stoic, or just feeling neutral about something I've said/shared. Please be patient. Let's always be open and honest with each other.
Around me there is always inappropriate laughter, burps, farts, naughty jokes, cursing. If you’re looking for LT friendship or anything intimate, you’ll eventually meet my friends and family and will need to be cool with cursing and the occasionally rank joke or discussion.
I often laugh out loud in public places, even restaurants, and sometimes I send my food back.
I don’t do well in the heat so prefer shade or indoors but definitely venture out as much as possible during the Summer.
I am trying to become debt-free. Please be willing to help pay for all outings, and easy to feed and entertain ;)

My Aussiedog Jemma is my furever furbaby soulmate. I talk about her a lot. I also have dog hair on all my clothes and in my car. If you are allergic to dogs, or just don't like dogs, this is a Dealbreaker.
I am afraid of large bully breed dogs. If you have a mastiff or pibble or a cross of either kind, I will probably be weird around them for a while, OR may never be comfortable around them. Once bitten, twice shy.
I live with my hetero BFF and her elderly mom. I probably won’t be able to have you over for games or meals until they are comfortable knowing you for a little while. I’m sorry if this is a Dealbreaker for you. I really do want to share my space(s) with you.

Ripple's $1 Million Donation Fuels Massachusetts Senate Race
In recent development, Ripple has donated $1 million to the Commonwealth Unity Fund, a newly created political action committee (PAC) established by pro-XRP lawyer James Murphy. It can be noted that Ripples’ donations to PAC will have a significant impact on this coming election. It will support the efforts to unseat Senator Elizabeth Warren and promote Attorney John Deaton’s candidacy as the…

Project 2025 is inter-generational, dating back to the 1930s.
THE PLOT TO SEIZE THE WHITE HOUSE; Jules Archer; HAWTHORN BOOKS, INC. PUBLISHERS / New York Copyright © 1973 by Jules Archer.
...
In September, 1934, the press announced the formation of a new organization, the American Liberty League, by discontented captains of industry and finance. They announced their objectives as "to combat radicalism, to teach the necessity of respect for the rights of persons and property, and generally to foster free private enterprise." Denouncing the New Deal, they attacked Roosevelt for "fomenting class hatred" by using such terms as "unscrupulous money changers," "economic royalists," and "the privileged princes of these new economic dynasties."
Butler's eyes widened when he read that the treasurer of the American Liberty League was none other than MacGuire's own boss, Grayson M.-P. Murphy, and one of its financiers was Robert S. Clark. Heading and directing the organization were Du Pont and J. P. Morgan and Company men. Morgan attorney John W. Davis was a member of the National Executive Committee-the same Davis that Clark had identified as author of the gold-standard speech MacGuire had tried to get Butler to make to the American Legion convention in Chicago. Heavy contributors to the American Liberty League included the Pitcairn family (Pittsburgh Plate Glass), Andrew W. Mellon Associates, Rockefeller Associates, E. F. Hutton Associates, William S. Knudsen (General Motors), and the Pew family (Sun Oil Associates). J. Howard Pew, longtime friend and supporter of Robert Welch, who later founded the John Birch Society, was- a generous patron, along with other members of the Pew family, of extremist right-wing causes. Other directors of the league included A1 Smith and John J. Raskob. Two organizations affiliated with the league were openly Fascist and antilabor. One was the Sentinels of the Republic, financed chiefly by the Pitcairn family and J. Howard Pew. Its members labeled the New Deal "Jewish Communism" and insisted "the old line of Americans of $1,200 a year want a Hitler." The other was the Southern Committee to Uphold the Constitution, which the conservative Baltimore Sun described as "a hybrid organization financed by northern money, but playing on the Ku Klux Klan prejudices of the south." Its sponsor, John H. Kirby, collaborated in anti-Semitic drives against the New Deal with the Reverend Gerald L. K. Smith, leader of the first Silver Shirt squad of American storm troopers.

COMMENTARY"
In the final analysis there isn't a dime's worth of difference between this Jesus Snake Oil Salesman and John MacArthur: they are both peddling the Total Depravity Gospel of Pro=Life Calvinism and substantially denying the Holy Spirit. John MacDonald, in this intermural apologetics arising from competing versions of Jesus
4
Here is thing: it is not apparent to me that either one of them have any real idea of the difference between the Holy Spirit and the Spirit of the Lord from the pulpit. The great wind on Pentacost was the Baptism of the Holy Spirit in the Spirit of the Lord. The Holy Spirit is the Baptizer and the Spirit of God is the river. The Spirit of God is a planetary force of supernatural qualities. It is chunk of the Power of Elohim the verb without The Mind of Elohim the verb. The Tempest and Forbidden both accurately describe the Sprit of God,
The thing is, the Holy Spirit and a rushing wind are not the same thing, Jesus and the Holy Spirit have divine agency over the Spirit of God in the Gospel of Mark. The Power referred to in Mark 5:25 - 34 is the Spirit of God Jesus cold store in His body, like the Arch of the Covenant, which was a Divine Capacitor for the raw power of the Spirit of God which hovers over the waters, as in the beginning, it now and ever shall be. The Spirit of God is the Elohim the Demi Urge introduced in Genesis 1:2. This is an actual phenomena in the atmosphere,
I've been to a number of Pastor Jack hayford's services to see what I could see. The Spirit of God was very clearly working in his congregations in every show. I could feel it and it was differenct from the congregations I had grown up with in the Army Protestant Chapel. It was far more erotically charged than in the Army chapel and the basically Anglican traditions of George Washington.
Jesus is using this power in all His miracles and much of His personal interactions in various ways. One of the things He is very careful NOT to do is to make people believe in Him though direct mind manipulation and violate Free Will. That's the point of the Book of Job. That's the point of Parables: so that God won't pull rank on our egos in the manner God lie The Satan tryy, twice, in the Book of Job. This example the woman with the hemorrhage is a fascinating glimpse into the relationship between Jesus and the Holy Spirit, Jesus had exactly the same relationship with the unterus that Moses had, except He died a virgin, But the Holy Spirit brought this woman to Jesus to introduce him to the experience of having a uterus that wan't workng right and what it was like when it was brand new. This experience informed His relationship to Mary Magdalene and is the basis for my assertion that the Pro=Life doctrine is pure heresy as a business plan, Because Jesus is the only man in history who, for an instant, had the temple of Yaweh, Queen of Battle, in His body. The connection was the Spirit of God.4The
The thing is that the Charismatic nature of Christian Nationalism is conjuring up the Spirit of God without the mediation of the Holy Spirit, which is creating the extreme weather in the Bible Belt and was instrumental in the destruction of the Key Bridge. The lesson that everyone needs to learn from the Key Bridge disaster is that the unmitigated Spirit of God is a force multiplier for Murphy's Law, whether you want to accept the mythology in action or not, the spirits of the harbor were pissed off by the heresy of Donald Trump saluting a recording of the January 6 rebels singing The Star Spangled Banner from prison and pretending they are patriots. three days or so before the shit hit the Key Bridge.
There is a correlation between whatever is being amplified by Pro-Life Christian media and FOC News and Trump's daily commentary. Trump complains about gag orders and 17 tornagoes take out the Bible Belt. Stormy Daniels irritates trump and Houston begins bailing out from Helga, part Deux.
A lot of Jesus needs to be understood by the Hebrew method of backing into wisdom, such as Hilleel's "That which is hateful to yo, do not to others" Much of what Jesus is trying to do is to turn that trajectory around and employ it proactivelfy, Hillel's Silver Rule counsels to avoid creating bad karma. Jesus says front load good karma.
What Jesus means, in my mind, by the only unforgivable sin is that not employing the Holy Spirit to at least mitigate Murphy's Law is an avoidable self-inflicted wound. If Mickey Mouse had employed the Holy Spirit to command the brooms and water, he would have not had the unintended consequences of his ambitions.
The point of all Charismatic liturgy of Calvinism is to whip the adherents into an emotional frenzy and call it being baptized by the Holy Ghost, This is what is causing the extreme weather in the Bible Belt and the Key Bridge Disaster is god's way of saying this is what the combination of Christian Nationalism and the white supremacist economics of the January 6 agenda has been doing to America since Januaryy 20, 1981 and what Trump promises to double down on if he is returned to the Oval Office and not Riker's Island.

John Cena Walks Out Apparently Naked During 2024 Oscars: See Full List Of Winners
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The 2024 Oscars took place on March 10 with Jimmy Kimmel as the host of the 96th edition. Movies where not the only thing up for discussions after the award show as movie star and former 16 times Wwe champion John Cena came out completely naked, at least that's what everybody thought at first as the part of his body that was covered was his groin area which he covered with an oversize envelope during his outing to present the award for best costume design. Backstage photos show Cena, 46, standing in an Oscars hallway wearing nothing but a modesty pouch to cover his most personal parts. The coverage was basically a pair of underwear that pocketed Cena both front and back. So, while it looked like the pro wrestler could flash the audience any moment, the Oscars wardrobe team made sure that wouldn't happen.

Pro-XRP attorney John Deaton has been honored with the inaugural Defender of Freedom Award by the International Congress of Blockchain Legal Advisors (ICBLA). This award recognizes individuals and entities that have displayed exemplary dedication to upholding freedom in the crypto community, and Deaton’s selection for this honor comes with a $5,000 prize. The Achievements Of Deaton Deaton’s work in the crypto space, particularly concerning the digital asset XRP, has been pivotal. He empowered digital asset owners to counteract SEC enforcement actions, creating a strategy that many view as a defense against the SEC’s broad attempts at regulation, an official press release by ICBLA states. His dedication to the cause was evident as he represented tens of thousands of XRP holders in the notable case of SEC v. Ripple Labs et al. without charging a fee. Highlighting the importance of Deaton’s contributions, the summary judgment by Judge Torres in the SEC vs. Ripple Labs case referenced Deaton’s amicus brief. Daniel Payne, an ICBLA senior fellow, commented on the award’s relevance, saying, “The Defender of Freedom award is unique in the crypto world. It represents a commitment to safeguarding the very essence of the crypto world– the freedom to innovate, grow, and transform the global business landscape. We applaud John’s creation of a new paradigm: federal judges now grapple with non-party token holders early and often.” James Murphy, a leading securities lawyer and a respected voice in crypto legal commentary, weighed in on Deaton’s recognition. He said, “I can’t think of a better choice for the Defender of Freedom award. John represents something in short supply in our society—a real, authentic hero. John’s selfless service is in the finest traditions of the Marine Corps where he retired as a Major. He lives by the motto—Semper Fi—always faithful.” XRP Community Propelled His Efforts In a detailed post on X (formerly Twitter), Deaton delved deeper into his journey, emphasizing the collaborative fight against the perceived injustice by the SEC. Deaton started by underscoring the award’s collective nature: “I accepted this generous award on behalf of 75K people who were willing to fight back.” He expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support, with over 12,600 individuals initially joining his motion to intervene in the case, a move that marked a departure from traditional SEC enforcement actions. “When I filed a Motion to Intervene, 12,600 people joined, asking the judge to become actual defendants in the case… NEVER had thousands of investors petitioned a Court to be sued.” Deaton also elaborated on the SEC’s tactics, criticizing their attempt to provide testimony without firsthand accounts from XRP holders.  The attorney credited the collective voice of the XRP community for preventing such tactics, stating, “We didn’t let the SEC gaslight the Judge… That nonsense was excluded by the Judge b/c we offered 3,600 Affidavits.” Deaton highlighted key moments when collective action swayed judicial opinion, citing specific instances where community members like Naomi Brockwell in the LBRY case played a pivotal role. “Judge Torres in a footnote cites the January 30, 2023 hearing where I asked the Judge to clarify his ruling… If Naomi doesn’t grant me permission to represent her, and go against the SEC, that footnote by Judge Torres never occurs.” He concluded by reiterating that the award he received was a testament to the collective spirit of the entire XRP community and their refusal to be silenced. “Without all of them, my efforts would’ve been a fart in the wind. So when I accepted this great award, I accepted it on behalf of all of them.” At press time, XRP traded at $0.50719. THREE TRIOS AT MEZZROW’S LIVE* AND ARCHIVED, 23-26 AUGUST 2023
DAVID HAZELTINE with David Happy Williams and Billy Drummond, 11 AUGUST 2023, 9 pm
*AARON GOLDBERG with Philip Dizack and Matt Penman, 25 AUGUST 2023, 9 pm
GREG MURPHY with Obasi Akoto and Steve Johns, 10 AUGUST 2023, midnight set
I will claim that I am back in the streaming/writing souvenirs habit with these shows and this comment. There were ample reasons to select these shows but they were not old familiars—Miki Yamanaka, George Cables, Alan Broadbent, and Ari Hoenig. So, I got to stretch my ears.
I’m pretty sure DAVID HAZELTINE was the pianist for a David Happy Williams gig that honored Cedar Walton. That pianist nicely captured Walton’s left hand figures which Hazeltine just didn’t quite have. He soloed well but the bass chords/arpeggios that mark Walton and that he had when he stated the themes faded. Williams danced, literally and with his instrument and Billy Drummond had his deft cymbal work going on, but Hazeltine didn’t quite assert himself sufficiently. It was a fine set and these are all pros, but, despite a fine set including a Horace Silver blues and a fetching Lover Man, it didn’t quite grab me.
It was only as I awaited the stream that I realized that Philip Dizack plays trumpet and not drums. So AARON GOLDBERG’s was a different trio. Dizack isn’t Jeremy Pelt who is a master of this ensemble, but, like Pelt and Giveton Gelin who used to duet with Sean Mason, he was an appealing restrained tone well suited to exploring a nifty selection of tunes. Miles Davis’ Dr Jekyll had quick, intricate unison lines and a little fire. Wayne Shorter’s The Big Push and especially Joe Henderson’s Recorda Me were rich, deliberate, and still exploratory. They also did a Cuban song by Martin Rojas that had the flavor of Miguel Zenon’s bolero and Latin American songs duo projects with Luis Perdomo which are distinctively Latin and certainly rhythmic but without percussion. Well, except for Matt Penman’s lush bass that was, on the Rojas, a big guitar. He was an important touch point all night long.
Obasi Akoto was an even bigger presence with GREG MURPHY. I’d seen him on his on gig and figured, though I didn’t know Murphy, this would be a rhythmic, swinging gig. It was, though, teetering on and sometimes going over the edge of being too much. He cooked though and he, Williams, and Penman were crucial to all three sets. Steve Johns was solid but not spectacular and it is probably true that that’s what Murphy was too. But he was bigger than Hazeltine and could hold his own. I recognized Sam Rivers’ Beatrice which was its beautiful self. I’m betting the following tune was probably Nardis, maybe Solar, but part of that Miles/Bill Evans lineage. It was, like the Goldberg/Dizack Dr Jekyll, energetic. Nice set, all around solid and Akoto is a force.
It has helped to have this habit Re established as I adjust, this past week, to the old rhthym of the school year as I then establish a new rhythm on its/my own terms and not that of the 40 hours a week office. That probably means more music.
