I think you guys are paranoid about your lore being too problematic and all of this fearmongering is unhelpful. Written words are allowed to be more graphic and disturbing than pictures. Have y'all read any xenofiction in your lives? Warriors with the violence? Wings of Fire with how Queen Scarlet treated Peril? Guardians of Ga'Hoole with the fucking PURE ONES? Write your cannibalism. Write your abusive relationships. Write your cults and whatever. It's fine I promise. Go have fun.

hey salt guys asking for a friend here. hypothetically lets say someone has a lore dragon who carves statues and animates them with dead dragon and beastclan souls. if they have a meat dragon who is covered with a statue skin and they have this lore: "He fell into a bursting boil and melted down to the muscle and bone ... She masterfully crafted a new skin of marble and gold, reviving the young mirror..." is this too dark for flight rising (i have never written lore before. help)

what if, theoretically speaking, for the sake of the argument, someone made a dragon with lore about murder and/or cannibalising of a dragon that's in one-sided love with them. but never mentioned it directly and only made vague nods to it. would it be too fucked up for fr that way. just asking for a friend

Would it be bad/weird if I make my lore where all my dragons are pets and not sapient? I'm really fond of the idea of like. A rancher with a bunch of dragons that are Basically Big Horses or perhaps even Big Dogs. But I don't want to like. Upset anyone. Or maybe make anyone think it's like a fetish or something? Idk I know like they're basically humans in intelligence in the canon lore with the npcs and stuff, but I just want to make an oc that takes care of all these dragons and stuff and they have the intelligence of like a cat or dog or horse or something

i feel like someone’s going to cancel me over my clan’s lore because it’s really cyberpunk and has a lot of unethical science vibes. someone blocked me in a lore thread once because one of my dragons dissects other dragons for fun. like ok .

i wish people on fr (and the rest of the internet too) didn’t just use “dark lore/fiction” to just mean anything that could potentially upset someone. there’s a massive difference between stories that explore many “”dark”” topics such as abuse in a nuanced and serious manner (ex: umineko). and like, stories that are rooted in bigotry or prejudiced ideologies.
this post was brought to you by my reaction to seeing a comment on that eugenicist imperial post where the commenter said “i don’t think it’s nessecarily bad to have dark lore depending on how it’s handled”

/post/727825467772649472 whenever I give my dragons lore, I never really consider the on-site parents as their cannon, in-lore parents unless stated otherwise. The only exceptions are if I own the parents of the dragon or if the dragon is part of some lineage with lore or their parents have lore in their bios, in which I'll try to go based off that.

post/727825467772649472 - the really funny thing for me is that I've only ever experienced this in the opposite direction: someone wrote a hatchling of mine as having a super loving family, when actually the dragon parents in question are strange and inhuman (indragon??), and not warm and fuzzy in the least. still, in this case it's so wholesome that I definitely don't mind! it's always a thrill to see a dragon from one of my pairs get lore, and I love checking in on him from time to time.

so uhh,,,, how far can someone go with their lore being dark? genuine question. i know staff gets hard-pressed over red skins when plague is literally a flight but i'm just wondering if i'd be nuked for having dystopian lore. it's so strange because some subspecies are literally built upon the premise of spreading diseases and mind-control but if i say my spiral was abused by her imperial mother suddenly i'm in the wrong. what is the general consensus on horror/abuse in lore.

are there any examples of people being told to take down their ‘dark lore’ or being banned for no reason because of it? the only ones i can think of is when r from nature had a pair (but im not familiar with the specifics because ive never seen screenshots) or that golden tundra guy (who just wrote porn).
i dont take an active part in the lore writing community anymore but i have dragons who have been very clearly abused by their parents and collaborated on writing dark lore and ive never gotten any complaints about it. im also familiar with people writing about religious abuse including their dragons. a lot of the cult lore ive seen is to poorly written to be seen as bad (i.e “my cult doesnt actually hurt anyone but theyre totally a cult”)
although i DO recall one user in nature writing porn about their tundra oc’s.. did things get stricter after 2016?

Honest to God idc what kinda "problematic" theme anyone explores as long as they don't shove it in everyone's faces. Live and let live. Keep things appropriate onsite, do what you want offsite, but tag it so ppl can avoid it if needed. People exploring "problematic" themes aren't inherently evil and people who hate those themes aren't inherently prudes. Something something neither is better, we're all just people trying to live our lives. End of story. Leave each other alone.

cringe culture is dead, unless you are like 3id from plague who can barely keep their slavery and servitude fetishes contained. i can't look at the necromancer subspecies the same way ever since i figured it out.

ew one of my fav pairs’ hatchlings got bought by one of those ppl with weird rapey onsite lore. ): like they literally have a tab about how all their fodder is kidnapped, enslaved, forced to breed, and exalted right there to read. idk i’m a writer myself and don’t mind dark themes in fiction… but right in the open on a lighthearted 13+ dragon site is a weird place to put this imo

This is why, imo, you should always be suspicious of vague asks about how people are simply so mean to them because their lore is “dark.” Either that person doesn’t understand the reasons CERTAIN dark lore gets called out (inappropriate for a 13+ space and/or sensitive topics being portrayed disrespectfully) or their lore contains things that most users rightfully would not approve of. And if those suspicions are wrong and that person is being targeted unfairly, they can elaborate using (1/2)
language, since they have nothing to hide. (2/2)
