Protea repens
Like most of the Protea species, this one comes from South Africa, where it grows in the southwestern and south-central part of the country, in the Western Cape Province and also the Eastern Cape Province. As with other Protea species, the “flower” pictured is actually a flower head with many small flowers gathered within a cup of showy bracts.

Fall Vibes ✨🌺🍂🍁🌼🌅 • California fuchsia (Epilobium canum) blooming in the Native Plant Garden with California goldenbush (Ericameria ericoides) fluffy seed heads, big-cone Douglas fir (Pseudotsuga macrocarpa), and more providing a beautiful backdrop • Chinese tulip tree (Liriodendron chinense) framed by Loropetalum foliage and palm fronds in Temperate Asia • Japanese maples, magnolias, gingko, flowering cherry, and Liriodendron all starting to show fall color in Temperate Asia • Though we tend to think of conifers as evergreen, there are a handful of conifers that are deciduous—Here is one, golden-larch (Pseudolarix amabilis) in Temperate Asia. If you’re unfamiliar with deciduous conifers, they can cause quite a shock come fall when their needles begin to change color and fall from the tree. This is often an adaptation to extreme habitats as many deciduous conifers are found in areas such as swamps or alpine zones. • Protea repens flowering in the South Africa Garden along with several other proteas • Tree daisies (Montanoa spp.) from southern Mexico through Central America have begun to flower and their abundant, cheery, fragrant flowers are not to be missed • Verbena bonariensis provides some late season flowers in the Zellerbach Garden of Perennials • Chinese sweet gum (Liquidambar formosana) adding to the early, subtle fall colors indicating the season shift in Temperate Asia • Fasicularia bicolor—another beautiful terrestrial bromeliad from Chile—cascading down the admittedly drab, battered, beige cinderblock wall in the Entry Garden is always a welcomed fall surprise • #sfbotanicalgarden #fall #fallvibes #fallcolors #fallfoliage #fallflowers #autumn #autumnal #sunsetstroll #californianativeplants (at San Francisco Botanical Garden) https://www.instagram.com/p/CGl4T3mgFd3/?igshid=3edvs6oou6lx

Suikerbossie ek wil jou hê (Sugarbush I want you) — Since the preparation for the Woordfees show started everything doubled: My size My stress My amazement at how people can rise to a challenge and exceed every expectation. Never underestimate the influence one voice can make... "If you think you are too small to make a difference, you haven't spent the night with a mosquito" African Proverb It is almost like going into the Promised Land without packing up and moving(again). Was it worth it? Yes! to learn and find your spot in the diverseness of being significantly different and united in our South African-ness. Does the World really need passports? When people keep moving as their view of the exact location of the Promised Land changes. I once had friends who lived in Paradise... and then they moved? Maybe the common denominator is me, my voice and perspective. I like our new president Cyril Ramaphoza- my mom calls him the second Messiah. I like him because he walks with the people, listens and takes charge of a dream and legacy the World has been inspired with. If we all can be human first and perfect last. Serve first and rule last. It creates space for everybody to become the Creators chosen one send with a specific mission and purpose. I have been known as being good at 'killing plants' but singing about them is different. The link below is to a song I wrote- sung beautifully by Wendy Lithemba and accompanied by Justin Jefthas as part of our 'Born in Africa' production(CDBaby/iTunes). Working on a protea song with the "Drink Hulle Tee in Kanada?" cast. The count down has begun: Only seven(7) days left! 2&4 March Computicket https://goo.gl/k7xDHP You- with the #GreenFingers- can plant a Sugarbush(Protea Repens). I wish you a wonderful March! Xxx Marthie Haupt PS.We have tea-cozies that will fly to any destination of the World(no passports needed just a stamp). I even have a catalogue to inspire you with.
