“So…?”He started asking when the glare the blonde shot him made him go quiet. “I don’t know how this happened.” She said while she went back to glaring the little gingerbread men to death. Further to death that is.
Thing is neither of them knew how to bake those cookies. Viv refushed to acknowledge she had no idea what she was doing and when she just tried to wing it, Gilbert had awesomely gone along with that. He had read up on some recipes in secret, no need to tell that to anyone though, but these recipes must have been wrong.
Which meant that after making their way through the smoke to rescue the little cookie people from the  oven’s mighty flames, they had really only saved them from the confines of the oven. They also managed to save Viv’s kitchen from burning down.
Still, as they stood side by side looking down on their attempt at baking they has to admit the little piles of charcoal were far beyond salvation.
The blonde woman sighed and put her head on his shoulder in defeat. “I’m going to make a call.” The man said and before she could make another comment, Gilbert added “He won’t ask any questions.”
Ludwig shook simply shook his head when he heard his ringtone go off. He had been expecting this call and had been acting accordingly. He answered the call and only said. “They are ready.”
On the kitchen counter was a batch of gingerbread men cooling off.

the small joys.
Pairing: Prussia/England Rating: General Audiences Important Tags: Established Relationship, Human AU, Family, Peter as PrUKs son, Fluff Notes: written for @pruktober day 9: jumping in a pile of leaves read on ao3.
The temperatures were starting to drop, the days got shorter, and all around them the trees lit up in reds and yellows. A soft breeze messed up Arthur’s hair and he gripped his son’s hand a bit tighter as they approached the busy street. Peter had a habit of trying to run into oncoming traffic and Arthur would prefer to keep his son alive.
“Fire truck!”
He was sure Peter would have pointed if he could, but given that both of his hands were being held, he elected for just shouting instead. Looking ahead, Arthur saw the fire truck Peter was so excited about. It was nothing out of the ordinary, but the kid was still so young and impressionable, and everything he saw amazed him.
On Peter’s other side, Gilbert laughed.
“Well the fire department’s around here! There’s bound to be a lot of trucks, maybe we can go there when you’re older.” “Why can’t we go now?!”
Peter’s tone was accusatory and his pout was adorable, and Arthur knew that Gilbert just made a terrible mistake.
Luckily his husband had the ability to talk himself out of anything so soothing Peter wasn’t as big of a challenge as it would have been for Arthur.
“We can’t because we’re visiting your Opa, cuddlebug. There’s no extra time for a trip to the fire department. And you know how he gets when we keep him waiting.”
At the mention of his grandfather, Peter seemed to be in a much better mood already and he nodded in understanding but the glint of mischief sparkled in his eyes regardless (a look that Arthur knew from Gilbert but he now happened to recognize in his son far too often as well).
“Okay, but you’re taking me there some day! Promise it!” “Pinky promise! I’ll let you see the trucks up close one day.”
The red light turned green then and they crossed the road without any further complaining on their son’s part, which Arthur was grateful for. He adored his son, he loved him to bits, but Peter could be a lot when he got upset.
They left the busy streets in favor of going down the path by the forest instead. It was quieter and they ran much less risk of Peter running into the busy street there. Plus, as a bonus, Peter would get to pick the leaves and chestnuts off the ground, something Arthur knew Peter had been looking forward to since the beginning of autumn.
Letting go of the boy’s hand, Arthur watched his son immediately dash forward to one of the chestnuts on the ground, picking it up and holding it into the air triumphantly.
“Lookit! So cool!”
He seemed so proud and Arthur couldn’t help but smile, watching Gilbert as he praised the chestnut into high heavens, treating it like it was a gemstone Peter found. Gilbert just had a way with kids, and it seemed to all come naturally to him. He knew what to say at the right moment, he knew how to react, he could exaggerate his reactions in a way Arthur still struggled with.
He loved watching him interact with their son, because Peter was just so much like Gilbert it was almost painful. He had two menaces running around his house, causing chaos, yelling, screaming, playing. (Never making a mess, though, or at least not one that didn’t immediately get cleaned up. Gilbert was very meticulous about that, he valued order and cleanliness.)
Sometimes it was almost too much.
Almost.
“You shouldn’t encourage him to pick up random stuff off the ground.”
The outraged look on Gilbert’s face let Arthur know that he hit exactly the buttons he wanted to, letting Gilbert rant a bit about how it wasn’t even dangerous when it’s just a chestnut, and that Peter was obviously smart enough to know the difference. Arthur seriously doubted that Peter would know the difference between something dangerous and something safe at his age, but before they could start bickering, their attention was diverted back to said son, who’d started tugging at their sleeves.
Looking to where he was pointing, Arthur sighed quietly. A big pile of leaves was at the side of the path, no doubt having gotten cleaned up just a few hours earlier to make the path more accessible. It probably sounded like a great idea to just jump into it, but Arthur knew that he couldn’t let Peter do that. Someone had raked them up, he couldn’t Peter ruin a poor guy’s hard work like that, especially when it was supposed to keep the path clean, and regardless-
But, of course, before he could even finish that thought, let alone start speaking a sentence Gilbert had already grabbed their son’s hand and made a dash for the pile. In a matter of seconds the leaves flew all around them, doing exactly what Arthur wanted to prevent, Gilbert and Peter breaking into a fit of giggles as they sat in the remains of the pile, and Arthur couldn’t even find it in himself to be mad.
“You gonna join us?” “Absolutely not. Who knows what kind of bugs live in that pile.”
But he didn’t press for them to get up right away, either, the fond smile on his face remaining as he watched them throw the leaves at each other.

For @pruktober, Day 2: Devil x Priest!
~~~
Spirits show a glimpse through smudged glass. Two figures on a dark forest trail. A glint of crossed gold pings off two strange growths on the other’s head. They’re gone just as quickly as the vision comes, perhaps a figment of imagination, tired eyes rubbed beyond their sting, or dare it be said—a man of the cloth walking hand in hand with Hell on Earth.
So I'm starting to think about GerEng week. I know last year there were a lot of events in October so I worry the same thing will happen this year. German Bros Week is already been said to be taking place during the month and I'm sure pruktober will also take place in October. I don't want us to have to battle for attention you know?
But October has been tradition for this blog for years and Ludwig's bday is on October. Also apparently there was some merch that may have listed Arthur's bday in October as well 👀.
Anyway. I'll let you guys help me decide.
Here's a little snippet of what I have planned for day 1 of PrUktober!
Truthfully, the merchant probably didn’t even know what hit him. Gilbert struck with a ferocity and fervor that spurred Arthur’s crew to even greater heights of bloodlust, if only to match their honourary crewmate. By the time the cannons were still and the last embers of life snuffed out, the sea below was red like wine, frothing and stained by the blood that the shark was surely drunk on.
