Ducky bae hiiii okay so heres the thing.
Being comforted by Karasuno (coaches too please😅) The comfort is like comfort for like the coaches find your like suicide note in the club room and like theyre comforting you about it.
Yachi and reader are already dating but reader seems so bubbly and happy all the time yachi doesnt know what to do.
Do you think you could do this? Things are kinda all over the place rn and I dont know how to handle it...sorry if this is like really triggering but uh yeah :')

𝐾𝑎𝑟𝑎𝑠𝑢𝑛𝑜 𝑉𝐵𝐶
You couldn’t tell anyone how you ended up befriending the entire club, but here you were.
It happened on a fated morning, where you were sent on a mission to hand another teacher’s letter to Takeda.
You had been in the gym before for a required P.E class, but other than that you never found yourself on that side of the school.
You pushed on the heavy door, quietly peeking your head inside the opening. “Uhm. Mister… Ta-Keda? Takeda?”
“Yes, that’s me. How can I help you.” A bespectacled man chirped, strolling over to the door with a smile.
You mirrored his facial expression, offering him the note with both hands. “For you, from my Math teacher.”
“Oh! Thank you very much.” He offered you a slight bow, “Would you like to come watch practice? The boys are hard at work, and I’m sure they’d love some support.”
“Boys…?” When you let yourself fully walk into the gymnasium, you were met with the sounds of squeaking shoes and volleyballs smacking against the linoleum floor.
A girl with blonde hair, the bangs tied into a side ponytail, carefully sauntered to your side. “H-Hi! Welcome to the volleyball club.”
“Oh, hello.” You greeted in reply, “My name’s (Y/N), and you are?”
“Y-Yachi! Hitoka Yachi. I’m one of the managers for the team, my partner Kiyoko has the day off today, so it’s just me!”
“And she’s doing a great job!” A deeper voice cooed from behind her. Your eyes snapped to the left to be met with someone’s chest and neck. They were much taller than the girl you were previously talking to. “Hi there. I’m captain Daichi Sawamura, but you can just call me Daichi.” He offered you a beaming smile, and his hand
“A pleasure, Daichi.” You shook his hand, “So, what’s the occasion for such vigorous practice?”
“Ah yes. We have a training camp in Tokyo soon, so we want to be top of our game when we face our rivals.” The captain replied happily.
“Ah! Wonderful. Might I stay a while?” You asked, smiling at both him and Yachi.
“Of course!” Daichi cheered, “Boys! Circle up, I’ve got someone I want you to meet!”
And the rest was history. You quickly befriended the entire team, and they soon became like your family. Ukai and Takeda were like fathers to you, the third years being like your cool, older siblings, and the underclassmen being your annoying little siblings.
Eventually, Yachi had braved her most anxiety-inducing quest yet. She had asked you to be her partner. Of course, you instantly said yes.
Life was wonderful, you were content. Everything was seemingly going well.
The team never noticed anything off about you. Anyone that was asked would always give the same response about how happy-go-lucky you always were.
They unfortunately didn’t see the truth behind your smile. The days grew increasingly difficult to even just try and survive the school day. But, you didn’t want the team to feel bad, so you kept it hidden.
You don’t know what led you to this moment, but you found yourself huddled over a piece of paper in the club room. Tears dripped down your face as you wrote all of your troubles away, individually thanking each member of your newfound “family.”
You folded it up and nearly placed it amongst your things. Retreating to the bathroom to clean up, you missed it falling onto the floor.
As they’ve always said, curiosity killed the cat…
When you entered the gym, you wiped your eyes and were met with the team’s eyes all locking on you.
“Is there something in my hair? What did I do? Wha-“
You were cut off by Sugawara pulling you into a gentle embrace. “Whatever you’re going through, you’re not alone. Please don’t suffer in silence anymore, let us help you shoulder the burden.” he whispered.
At that moment, you noticed how almost all of the players were fighting the tears that were in their eyes. You sighed, settling deeper into the embrace. “I’m fine, guys. I don’t understand what the big deal is, I just went to the bathroom, that’s all.”
Hinata’s panicked voice pierced through the previously silent room, “(Y/N), how could you act like everything’s normal? We all saw-“
“(Y/N).” When another hand graced the small of your back, you felt the first set pull away. “Can you and me and Specs talk real quick?” The hand belonged to Coach Ukai, who looked as if he would break in any second.
“Stop treating me like some freak! Will someone please just explain what is going on?!” You groaned.
“Y-Your note.” Yachi’s mousy voice was the first one to sound. “Tadashi f-found it.”
“What note? What the hell are you-“ then, the realization hit. “Oh god, no nonono that’s-“
“(Y/N)-“ Yachi made an attempt to calm you.
“No, that’s- you weren’t supposed to see that, no one was.”
“(Y/N) please just-“ It was Suga this time.
“I thought that I had put it away! Damn it, this wasn’t supposed to happen. You all have so much to deal with already and-“
“Hey, I’m here kiddo.” Coach Ukai’s gentle voice rumbled inside his chest as he pulled you into a hug, “You’re safe here. Please, don’t keep this inside anymore.”
So, you let go.
A common feeling of heartbreak struck deep within the team, as your loud, pained lamentations reverberated off of the walls of the gym.
“I’ve got you. I promise you, you’re going to be alright. I won’t let anything harm you, let alone not yourself.” Ukai softly whispered, cradling the back of your head.
“I’m- I’m sorry.” You whimpered, “Y-You shouldn’t hav-have to do this.”
Without you noticing, Takeda had carefully moved by your side. He placed the gentlest hand on your head, trying desperately to show some support. “It doesn’t matter what we should or shouldn’t have to do. Right now, you need our help. You do so much for us, so how could we ignore you when it’s our turn to help?”
Within a few short minutes, the team had circled around you and their coaches, holding you tight in a group hug. After the hug, they sat in a circle around you, minus Suga, who sat behind you and held you close.
“Please, (Y/N), don’t keep this to yourself any longer. Will you help us understand?” You were slightly alarmed to hear Ennoshita’s tender voice break the tension, for he had always been rather soft-spoken.
“I couldn’t begin to explain…” you confessed, “There are so many little factors and I just can’t keep up. I didn’t want to say anything because you have nationals coming up soon, and God… poor Yachi I just couldn’t-“
“I-I’ll admit it took me by surprise, (Y/N), but I’m not mad at you. I didn’t expect it, since you hid it so well. But I want you to always know that I’m- no… we’re here for you whenever you need us.”
“Even if it’s really early in the morning,” Nishinoya interrupted, “I don’t sleep much during the night, so I’ll always be down for a rant session. I can’t promise you that I won’t try to fight whoever’s making you feel this way.”
The corners of your lips upturned into a soft, gratuitous smile.
“You are loved, (Y/N). Even if it may seem like all hope is lost, just remember that you have three big brothers who would literally fight God for you.” Suga said with a tinge of playfulness.
“I for one would not fight God, I wholeheartedly think that he would win and send me to purgatory. And my purgatory is just going to be watching a compilation of all of my embarrassing moments in middle school, so I’ll provide medical aide.” Asahi noted, dismissing the silly idea.
His words made you fall into a fit of gentle laughter, the sounds causing the rest of the team to follow.
“It won’t be easy.” Takeda finally spoke, “But know that we all want you to be the best person that you can.”
A chorus of different affirmative words filled the gym, showing the support of your “family”.
“Yeah, we love you or whatever, doofus.” Tsukishima quipped, ruffling your hair from his seated position to your left.
Takeda was right; it won’t be easy. But, with a family like this? What could it hurt to try?

✮⤷About me!
✰⤷My name is Vannah but everyone I know really calls me Nonnies! So both is just perfect if you’re having trouble deciding what to call me!:)
✰⤷ I adore the color orange,it’s my fav! I also love the fruit plus the mixed versions like tangerines or clementines! I love crunchy grapes and mint chocolate chip ice cream! I’m absolutely obsessed with chinchillas and snails! Seriously,do yourself and search up snails eating it’s the cutest thing ever! I am obsessed with dilfs! Ugh or big muscley men or just skinny men,tbh any man that’s kinda cute. AND OMG MEN WITH BIG NOSES🤭
✰⤷ I’m kind of shy and awkward especially when I know for a fact that a lot of people are cooler than me! Like omg people on here are so cool and such good writers! Plus ya’lls creativity to the themes of your blogs! Because I’m awkward though I tend to not talk to people because I’m afraid they won’t like me but I’m definitely gonna out of my shell to talk you to guys! I definitely need to be y’all’s friends!
✰⤷ Speaking of friends, part of the reason I came on here in the first place is to make friends! Once I turned 18, I downloaded this app and saw how so many creator have such a good community full of moots! I was just kind of a stalker blog who just read other people’s works! However, due to the lack of cared for chubby reader content I decided to try my hand at writing fics!
✰⤷ I’m racially black and ethically Haitian and Puerto Rican! Both of my parents are also the same ethnic mix as me so I find that pretty cool! However despite my Caribbean ethnicities I can’t speak a word of Creole or Spanish and when I attempt to my family just laughs at me(◞‸◟). So the only language I can really speak is English. I know I’m not the only person who loves their culture(s) but don’t really know too much about them like language or traditions.
✰⤷ I’m a huge fat nerd! Literally, love talking about comics or manga! I love Marvel and Dc and obvi Animanga. I really like Shonens,Seinens and Josei! Especially Josei! I had a whole Nana and Princess Jellyfish phase til age 16. My favs seinens change a lot but Berserk and Real are most def up there for me. Shonens are Fullmetal Alchemist and JJBA! I’m literally obsessed with JJBA and omg before I used to be worse. I had a huge TR phase for months too! And super random but does anyone else struggle with understanding manga fights? I always just end up making up my own fights tbh.
✰⤷ My biggest fear is not being able to finish anything or being less than! And for some reason things crawling on me really terrify me.
✰⤷ I’m obsessed with music! Every single pair of headphones I own don’t get super loud anymore cause I busted them up by having the volume super loud all the time! But I can’t help it,I need songs to literally be shoved up inside my ears otherwise I don’t want it! But majority of the time I just like to have it on for background noise when I’m doing homework or something. I also love podcasts especially book or movie/show recaps or true crime.
✰⤷ Ok so,I feel like I over shared a lot so this is the end of my about me! Love you bookieee! Thank you for reading!
Ps-Please be my friend if you’re similar to me or get what I’m saying 🧎🏽‍♀️
Ps to my Ps- I’m really affectionate and call everyone nicknames out of habit. I use bookie or babygirl(as a joke I swear guys) a lot!

aikatsu friends episode 61 spoilers (an ok ep but I get upset for no real reason)
last night I blithely wandered into the aifriends tag as usual looking for some cool gifs to reblog, entirely forgetting I hadn’t watched this ep yet, and was spoiled in the very first post. arghh... it was entirely my own fault this time though (but I really didn’t know if Alicia would be performing or not so it was like the most I’ve ever been spoiled on aikatsu maybe... I haven’t even watched the youtube mv for her song bc I’m so excited to see it be revealed on the anime ;;; sob)
I miss the intro bit from season one. every time Aine says “aren’t friends nice? aren’t Friends nice?” here I, an english speaker, reflexively think they’re the same damn thing even though I know what she means. maybe I’m just crabby today
I guess this is supposed to be a serious moment but these three fluffball hair twins lined up with this grandma like stair steps is really funny
Tumblr media
WOW!! these I Believe coords are super cute!!! they’re like a combo between figure skating costumes and the asian-style coords that aikatsu likes to give sexy-type brands. please give them to us on the game... please!!!
I swear to god Alicia if you throw that key out the window again and undo all of my son Charles’s hard work I will. be very frustrated at this dumb plot point. holy shit she’s really going to do it. uuuuhgghghOH Charles knocked on her door and interrupted her. with a message from the Minister of Weather and the Minister of.... Prophecy...? what kind of a country is Sorbet, exactly..........
(ps mentioning Sorbet just now reminded me that a lot of people are calling it fucking Solvette, which was the gd mystery of the year to me until I found out that it’s thanks to the subs apparently calling it that. really? the fuck is a solvette? Alicia’s fav food is listed in her profile as sherbet, are you telling me that’s actually incorrect and what she really loves is to dig into a shervette instead? smh and before you say that it’s too on the nose to name a country after a dessert so it’s clearly not Sorbet... like, while that might be true for some other work of fiction, it’s def not for aikatsu, an anime made for 5 year olds. they’re not even translating the other part of the name correctly, it’s ソルベット王国 / sorubetto oukoku, oukoku meaning kingdom, and they’re calling it a principality?? that’s a wholly different thing, both in japanese (公国 / koukoku) and in meaning. jesus, who knew that learning japanese would lead to such suffering. also maybe I am a little crabby today after all)
those two old guys in the last scene are the ministers?? which one is the Minister of Prophecy?? they both look fairly normal, even if that fairly normal is for about 300 years in the past in europe
so they’re all lying to Alicia about this being a really bad storm that can only be stopped with her personal aikatsu...? as excited as I am about seeing her perform, I really hate tricking people like this, good cause or no... wait huh they’re saying that everyone else is going to do aikatsu, not Alicia? uhh...? I mean clearly the end result is intended to be the same and it’s still also a lie but?? this also means that regardless of whether the blizzard is going to freeze the entire country or not, they’re still planning to put on a show in the middle of a blizzard which has been already established as v unsafe...? unless they honestly think that Alicia’s aikatsu is the key to stopping blizzards?? I’m so. . hhh
the guy with the mustache is the prophecy minister. sure, I guess. see if anyone believes your state-sponsored prophecies after this big old lie, though
they just busted in Alicia’s room to tell her that the blizzard’s coming faster than expected (lie) and so the townspeople are starting to freeze over (lie). uughuuhgh
they’re all pretending to be frozen like some kind of bad flash mob. oh... oh no. now that I’ve thought of this, I’ve gotta say it: a flash freeze mob. anyway this just makes Alicia look really gullible and it makes me feel worse about the whole plan
I hate myself for enjoying this Hibiki/Alicia moment even though it too is based on lies
how did that rock she had a few eps ago get into this box if she didn’t have the key to open it...? best not to ask, probably
the jewel doesn’t care if Alicia’s desperate feelings to save her people are all based on lies, at least. that’s something.
Alicia’s PR is kinda boring, but I really like that her brand is all golds and greens despite being a gothic snowy brand, which you’d typically think would be blues and silvers. I like the shoes w sock garters too, they’re cute.
it’s so cool how she leaves a trail of ice behind on the floor as she dances...!! her aura is whatever but I expected that
everyone wants Alicia to do aikatsu again, she’s happy about it, and all is well. but are they ever going to tell her that was all a big setup? what about the blizzard that’s about to hit?
AH THEY JUST IMMEDIATELY FESSED UP... how’s she going to take it.... she’s crying and jumping into Hibiki’s arms (also the sun is shining...?) well, ok
oh lore!! there’s a legend about the jewels/rocks that’s been passed down in Sorbet Kingdom. apparently they’ve existed in their country as part of the crown jewels for ages, and the legend says that when they shine with light, blessings will rain down from the heavens. Alicia opened the box holding them in desperation one day, and all of the gems shot out, leading to what Hibiki saw from space... so that’s where they came from! I guess the plot is now to collect all of them so Sorbet Kingdom can be saved.
next they’re all (including Alicia) going back to japan, and Wakaba’s going to be there! I’m v happy for all of tumblr who seems to have adopted her

EP. 12 - “Oh How The Tides Have Turned” - REGAN
Tumblr media Tumblr media
https://youtu.be/87W1CYDauwc
Tumblr media
Honestly that tribal council last night could've gone better, but I think that may have been the best outcome we could've seen.. What last night really shows is that my "side" won the battle, and now those who remain from the other side Jared/Nicole/Asya are kinda scrambling to integrate themselves.. Jared is definitely someone I know our side thinks we can trust, and he's doing a great job at integrating himself within the group for sure As of now, I've been thinking about it more and more, and Jared telling me that Dan was REALLY thinking about getting out Augusto, and what Dan was saying in the process, makes me really think that I can't trust Dan anymore.. He's playing Jared really hard to try to make sure that Dan can have Jared and Nicole on his side when our group splits, and I'm not liking it too much The thing that disappoints me is that I really trusted Dan 100%, and if I didn't hear that he was doing this, I probably would've still stuck with him EVEN AFTER he voted for me at the f11 tribal council.. Now what I've gotta do is play the field a little more. Nicole told me she lost her vote at ghost island, and I'm not sure how many people are going to know that's a fact or not, but I'm glad that I know she can't vote, really meaning the only person's vote I'd actually be concerned for is Asya.. By working with Roxy, Regan, Augusto, and Jared, to take out Dan, I think we can efficiently pull off a blindside on him and send him to jury, freeing up Vilma, Asya and Nicole, bc tbh, Dan has remarkable relationships with all three, and it's almost becoming too little too late before Dan becomes too powerful in the game I know i'm not necessarily out of hot water yet, especially because I know certain people would salvate at the thought of taking me out, but I've just gotta keep playing it cool, and not make it too known that Dan is probably my next target.. Kinda disappointing the way things ended with Alex and I, but he gave me 0 effort after he voted for me, and I'm not really going to do the same for him after he made a f2 with me, tried to convince me to not play my idol at tribal, and then being the one that was mad at me after tribal, because I asked him to vote for nicole before tribal, when I was actually voting for Ricky.. Shame shame shame Mr. Crooks. Shame shame
Tumblr media
OMG this is perfect Roxy just told Regan wants a F3 with us And like THATS WHAT I SAID MY IDEAL F3 WAS I'm all for it Alternative contenders would be Dan and Nicole But I wouldn't feel comfortable going to the end with anyone else really I want to get rid of one of Jared / Johnny asap I know they're close plus they're way too unpredictable I don't like unpredictable players I want to be able to predict where everyone's loyalties lie
Tumblr media
I forgot to add this into my last confessional, but Jared and I just promised each other f3, and I don't intend on going back on that.. I know that I am going to try my hardest to get to the end at this point, by any means necessary. It's single digits now, and i'm ready to start being a little ballsier with my moves. Bring it on bb and let's see how deep I can get being crazy heehee
Tumblr media
So jared and johnny told me to play my idol last round So I did And i wasted it But vilma got the idol clue AND BAM i told her to search where I thought it wasnt so I could get the idol and I did. I wanted the control. But if vilma gets votes I'll use it on her. I trust her 100% because she has yet to lie to me. And also because I think I can beat her. This time no one but her knows. I had to tell her or else it wouldn't be fair. oh how the tides have turned. We are iconic
Tumblr media
these people suck, i miss ricky and alex
https://goo.gl/images/HZwhVx
(A LITTLE LATER)
https://goo.gl/images/kDMJVb
somebody please send this to jared i think he’s confused.
Tumblr media
So I have a lot to catch y’all up on so get your tea cups! Asya and I talked last night and formed a super close alliance and somehow we ended up being the swings for tonight so that’s exciting! Also I’m glad I won immunity tbh! Anyway, the vote is between Nicole and Jared for sure but there was a group made to see who should go first and the consensus there was Jared. However, there are pros to Nicole leaving as well. So far it’s 3 votes for Jared, 1 for Nicole, 1 for Dan with Asya/myself/Roxy deciding how it goes. ps, Nicole lost her vote at Ghost so that’s dope. I was also told by Regan that she found another idol but she told Vilma I have a double vote so yikes gjdngnfnf anyway gl noms
(SIGH)
I know this ain’t that deep but ngl, I am the swing vote this round and a reason that I didn’t want to make the smarter move in my eyes is because I didn’t want it to affect my relationship with Regan who is someone I value a lot in this game but then I had to realize that the reason I’ve left so many times and left early for that matter is because I valued other people over myself and honestly, my time is now and I need to be selfish since that is the business I need to finish. I need to learn to stand by ground a bit more because I feel like I’m doing well in this game and if I want to win, I need to be a bit more assertive and all about me.
Tumblr media
16.39 Why's everyone sleeping on the fact that Jared and Johnny never wanna eliminate each other It's pretty clear that they're protecting each other But nobody wants to vote Jared or Johnny out with me ughhhhh Everyone thinks it's too early I'm more concerned they will somehow slide to the end And then we all just lose against them I guess I'm not as scared to make moves because there's two idols that are on my good side but idk It's hard! 19.02 Phew okay Regan wants Jared too 20.14 I mean I understand feeling reluctant to take out the big threats but we're about to enter f8 and and if over half the people in f8 are people I think I have absolutely no chance at beating then that doesn't look too good for me If I was one of the big threats I'd want to keep a shield in as well But I'm not, and I definitely don't need 934873 shields I need to start getting rid of the big dogs 20.48 I'm actually not 100% sure whether it would be smarter to take out Jared / Nicole now but I find Jared so much more intimidating My only concern is Asya/Nicole/Dan/Johnny/someone somehow coming together if we take out Jared now. But I think it would be semi easy to convince people to vote out Johnny even if that group tried to take the control. Plus I know Roxy is pretty determined to get rid of Dan. I hope I'll be able to slide through even if we take out Jared now. It's just that I'm not very close to Nicole at all so I don't know if she has other connections besides Jared, Dan and Asya. 2.14 I still think we're gonna go after Jared tonight but there's been a bit of messiness going on and you never know what's gonna happen during these two hours before tribal so we shall see. OH I think I forgot to tell but I got the idol clue with my mani-pedi and shared an altered version of it with practically everyone (ok not really but almost) but I soon realized I didn't alter it quite enough. I got lucky none of the guys found it though, because I definitely didn't want any of them to get that power. BUT Regan found it instead and she's at least convincing me she would use it to protect me too if needed, but I'm not absolutely convinced of that yet. I'm pretty content with her having it though, because I think we have similar interests going forward in the game and I wouldn't mind going all the way with her. Plus two idols in my possession would have felt like a bit too much hahaha. I don't deserve that much luck, I already got saved from death thanks to a host influencing a pre merge tribal for fucks sake.
Tumblr media
Another round of me sucking at confessionals, so i'll give the long story short 1. regan made a chat with the five people on our side, excluding myself, to talk about the pros and cons of getting out jared vs nicole, bc regan thinks i cant be trust and im going to run everything to jared? okay cool 2. After me spending the entire day to help jared and nicole, jared further sinks himself by telling dan that he wants to go for me or regan, and then he's telling me that he wants to go for dan, and he's trying too fucking hard to deflect attention off of himself, which is such a mood 3. This group of five decided that jared has to go 4. Regan is lying straight to my face, when I've told her I'd be flexible with the vote and do what our group wanted to do, but regan wants to be EXTRA instead and lie to me...... im watching you sissy 4. Augusto had this plan to get me him roxy asya (tbh i had the same idea, but it came out of his mouth, he can get the credit) to not vote out jared, but instead vote out nicole bc nicole is less threatening, thus more detrimental to our long term games since we feel like we have no chance at having nicole's support, when nicole is more likely going to work with dan or regan instead of myself augusto or roxy, and if jared continues down this path, he's likely going to shoot himself in the foot AGAIN in a future round, so this isn't an awful idea, and I hope it works.. If this works, another big round for ol man johnny man and it helps me position myself better within the tribe. bring it on :)
Tumblr media
This round is exactly why someone with a panic disorder should NOT PLAY TUMBLR SURVIVOR. I literally feel like I'm going to puke this round. I'm thinking the vote is gonna be 6-3 tonight against Jared, but I'm just really unsure. I feel like I'm def getting the 3. I just feel like this game has been a fucking shit show the last few rounds and no one has gotten to see it mainly because people just frantically message in PMs instead of alliance chats, or to the VL. I think this cast is iconic, and honestly if I get sent to jury, I'm literally so proud of the improvement I've made in tumblr survivor. Obviously, I want to win, but so many people left deserve it, so as long as some bump on the log like Roxy or Asya don't win I'm cool as a cucumber :~) I am 10 seconds away from kermitting tho, so see y'all later.
Tumblr media
JARED IS SO DUMB Yes i know Johnny is protecting you none of us are that dumb to think otherwise Secondly I have the merge idol. He doesn't stop claiming you have it you ho.

10 New Fintech Companies To Watch Out For! (Plus Highlights From FinCon 2017)
What up, y’all! Just got back and sobered up from our financial blogging conference, and thought I’d share some of the highlights from it.
Namely, the handful of new financial companies that were part of our yearly fintech competition I helped judge! It’s always so interesting to see how people use technology to solve our problems out there, and just like last year’s competition this one did not disappoint.
But first, gotta give it up to PT Money for organizing this amazing event each and every year (it was my 7th one attending!), as well as to all the other bloggers who volunteered their time to make it happen. If you’re a $$$ blogger or podcaster or just plain obsessed with personal finance, you NEED to come out to it one year and experience what it’s all about! I promise you will leave incredibly motivated or I will shut down this blog forever ;) (Or at least buy you a beer to cry into – hah)
So what happened at FinCon 2017?
Here are a few of the more exciting highlights… Because good luck telling social media people that what happens at FinCon stays at FinCon! ;)
Rapper Dee-1 crowd surfed while rapping his hit song, Sally Mae Back (Crowd surfed! At a financial blogging conference!)
Best selling author David Bach (of Automatic Millionaire fame) popped in to share his wild story on getting on Oprah for the first time, and how the Latte Factor is “not about the damn lattes!” Haha… Rebuking the hate he so often gets when people say they will never give up their coffees no matter how sexy compound interest is ;) He may or may not have also dropped a few F bombs on stage showing that he is definitely not one of the more stuffier financial “experts” out there. Super cool to run into him around 1 am on the last night too to talk shop! (Interesting fact: he’s fairly short)
Darren Rowse shared his story of how he became one of the world’s first professional bloggers when one of his camera reviews went viral over night. He’d later go on to start two majorly successful blogs, including the one most bloggers are familiar with and learn from: ProBlogger.com
Chris Guillebeau of The $100 Startup and The Art of Non-Comformity talked about how it’s perfectly okay to let a side hustle be just that – a side hustle! There’s no rule that you need to turn it into a full-time job if you’re perfectly happy with your current one. Just let it be your creative outlet while you bring home some extra side money! (I agree with this 100%!! Not all of us are born to run companies!!)
Cait Flanders held a presentation on writing Rockstar content that was packed solid which we think/hope went over pretty well! Interweaving the back story of Rockstar Finance and how it’s evolved over the years as well. (Cait curates it with me, and is one of my favorite bloggers on the scene)
A bunch of people from our community created a parody of The Office called The Floor which was shown at our annual blogger award ceremony and was downright HILARIOUS. Then ended with a surprise live musical performance by American Idol contestant Dalton Rapattoni! (It was all about the music this year, haha… Thx for putting it together, Scott Alan Turner!)
And lastly – we had one pretty damn fun Halloween party to wrap up the conference! Erik from The Mastermind Within said it best: “it was hilarious to see people with $1 million+ net worth’s singing Sir Mix-a-lot’s “Baby Got Back”.” Haha… That’s how we roll! If you can’t live it up, what’s the point of all that money??
As for the best costume of the night? I gave it to this guy. Can you tell why? ;)
(full back story here – he totally shaved his head for this!!)
Other interesting gems pertaining to yours truly: I randomly got interviewed in the bathroom, and I was  presented with the International Blogger of The Year award from UK’s SHOMO awards. Where I then made an acceptance speech that included “Long live the queen!” which I thought was pretty clever? ;)
Now to the Fintech Competition, and the 10 new financial companies to watch out for!
As I mentioned, I was one of the two judges for it again this year, where our ratings made up for 50% of the votes with the audiences’ making up the other 50%. We awarded two prizes for the night – $1,000 for first and $500 for 2nd – and below are my honest opinions of each, along with what they do. I’m not getting compensated by anyone listed here, and there are no affiliate links included at all.
Follow along and see if you can guess who won! :) In no particular order:
Agreeable (AgreeableApp.com) — Agreeable was one of my favorite apps who presented, and was built to help solve the problem of no shows whenever you go to meet someone off Craigslist or Facebook. Whereas currently you’re just $hit out of both luck and time when the buyer/seller doesn’t show up, with this app you’d actually get *paid* an agreed upon amount if anyone bails, ensuring that it’s in both parties’ interests to make the scheduled time. There were some privacy concerns I first had with this as it tracks both of your locations to confirm that the two sides made it to the meet-up okay, but after talking w/ one of the founders at a party afterwards I was impressed with their patent-pending solution to this. We’ll see if this puppy takes off, but I’m personally rooting for it to! (Also can be used for soooo many other areas in life too – imagine if Comcast or other services were forced to pay you if they never show up when they’re supposed to?? We’d all be rich! ;))
Birch Finance (BirchFinance.com) — This app was another killer idea, which I SWORE already existed but I guess not (a good sign that they’re onto something!). Basically, you tell Birch what credit cards you have and use, and then it’ll analyze them as you’re out shopping and tell you which ones to use to reap the *best* rewards, as well as *how much* you’ll get back by them, rather than you having to guess all the time. It’ll then show you other cards out in the market, and compare what would have happened had you used *those* cards instead of the ones you currently have. And since it’s all based on your specific transactions and spending patterns, you can see first hand exactly what your cards – or future cards – are worth to you. A pretty epic tool for any card hackers/lovers. (I’ll never use it since I’m a minimalist with just my one USAA card, but I’d be allll on it if I were in the rewards game!)
Budgit (BudgitApp.com) — Budgit is an automated budgeting and savings service that organizes your bills and spending so you can save for your goals. I tried real hard to figure out how these guys were different from all the other budgeting apps out there – and even posed the question during Q&A time – but even after doing so I was honestly still just as confused. They actually have this question posed word for word at the bottom of their website (“How is Budgit different?”) but the 3 answers given were “No ads ever”, “Hassle-free”, and “Secure and private.” Which I’m pretty sure most apps are?? All that said, as a budget guy I don’t think you can have *too many* apps out there spreading the good word, so I very much wish them all the luck and success as they can get. (PS: This app is not the same one as BudgIT)
College Backer (CollegeBacker.com) — These guys were pretty cool as they help get people to gift their child 529 contributions instead of more toys and “stuff.” Something I very much try to do every year too and rarely succeed! ;) And while like Budgit I couldn’t pin point how exactly this service is different than the others out there on the scene (there’s quite a few who let families and friends jump in to make this happen), I did like the general purpose of it and hope they take me up on my recommendation to pair these gifts with some sort of physical item too so the kids don’t totally hate opening up the gift of 529 funding, haha…
Honeyfi (Honeyfi.com) — Honeyfi is a new app *for couples* that makes sharing your budget and managing your money much easier together. Which I absolutely love! Honeyfi allows you to collaborate, link accounts, and even message each other at any time through the app so everyone in the relationship can be on the exact same page. There’s not many apps I can think of that focuses mainly on couples (actually, I can’t think of one?), so I’m really hoping this one takes off as I think they’re onto something good here… Budgets are even sexier when TWO people are involved!! ;)
KINFO (GoKINFO.com) — KINFO is an app for DIY investors that brings together information from hedge funds, insiders, analysts, bloggers and other private investors so you can see what everyone else is doing along side you. Particularly bloggers which the founder seems most excited about as it helps put all of our personal recommendations into one spot for people. Though as many of you know mine would look pretty boring as it would only show one fund: VTSAX :) I’m not sure if looking at what others are doing adds more or less noise into the decision making process (probably more?), but then again I was influenced to go All In with Vanguard from my peers so it could prove to be a pretty helpful resource.
Squeeze (Squeeze.com) — Squeeze is an app that helps you save by finding the best deals, promo codes, and coupons directly related to your current spending. It sounded a lot like the others in the field so I had a hard time putting them into their own special bucket, but needless to say you can’t have too many coupons in this hyper consumer world of ours… And as for branding, they absolutely NAILED it. Some of the other fintech names were pretty random!
Take Command Health (TakeCommandHealth.com) — These guys won my personal award for the best presentation, if only for the inclusion of photoshopped Trump and Obama pics littered throughout :) But their app was def. no joke. In a nutshell, Take Command helps you easily find the best option for health coverage by using big data to help source the best, and cheapest, health care options for you both on and off the exchange. They also shared the release of their small business feature which helps companies offer better and cheaper plans to their employees as well – something that many places are struggling hard with right now. So while the topic of health insurance typically doesn’t turn heads (at least for good reasons!), these guys had our immediate attention and I wouldn’t be surprised a bit if they hit a home run with this.
Qoins (Qoins.io) — Do these guys look familiar?? They should! I featured them here last year the second I came across them because they’re the FIRST to finally apply “rounding up” technology to debt!!! Which is something severely lacking in our industry… And while I had to recuse myself from voting on this one since I was definitely biased (they donated $$$ to our Community Fund over at Rockstar Finance), I was beyond pleased to see them here and thought they gave a great presentation. You can find my review of them here (I was the first ever blogger to share them!) but in a nutshell they round up all your transactions to the nearest dollar, and then uses the spare change to help pay off your debt every month. It won’t clear all of it, but every $30 or $40/mo helps!
WizeFi (Wizefi.com) — WizeFi is a paid app ($8/mo) that helps organize your finances, analyzing everything from your assets and liabilities to your insurance and spending habits. Once hooked up it’ll then estimate your future net worth if you continue spending the way you’re currently spending, and then compare it to your future net worth if you follow your custom WizeFi wealth-building plan. It comes with a super slick interface and the focus on net worth of course turned me on, but at the end of the day not too sure that alone is worth the $8. Especially since it doesn’t physically *move* the money for you like Digit or Acorns does and still requires you to take action (which most people won’t). I was also turned off by the mentions of an affiliate program for customers to make more money, both in the presentation as well as on their website (it’s prominently listed as the #3 reason to sign up?!), even though I’m sure the founder meant well. Overall would have been better if you had the chance to test out a free version, with an option to upgrade later to “pro” or something similar if interested…
Alright… Ready to guess who won?? Any really stand out to you??
Here were the 1st and 2nd place winners after all the votes were tallied up:
Birch Finance
Take Command Health
Honestly though, ALL of these guys came out winning as they not only got to pitch in front of tons of $$$ influencers and enthusiasts, but also landed on this illustrious blog here!!! Haha… Surely that’s worth at *least* $10.00 right? ;)
So congrats to everyone who participated. I wish I were smart enough to come up with my own money app! If you want to take a look at last year’s competition and results, you can find that here: Fintech Competition 2016
Next Year’s FinCon Event…
If you can believe it, plans are already in the works for next year’s conference! If you’ve always wanted to visit Orlando, Florida – now’s your chance! We’ll be partying it up with Mickey next year :) Learn more and pick up tickets here: FinconExpo.com/2018
So there we are – another great conference on the books :) THANK YOU thank you THANK YOU to everyone who came out and put up with me over the weekend! It was a blast hanging out with my 2nd family in the flesh, and I wish you all a most successful next year.
Special shout out to the following who really made me smile throughout: Chelsea Norton, Cait Flanders, Steve Adcock, Jim $, Shin, Bobby Lee, Pete McPherson, Latoya Scott, Fritz, Hélène, Hannah Rounds, the Tiller Team, Miss Mazuma, Optimal Finance Daily, John and Sharon Duffy, Shannon Austin, The Dumpster Dog, Miss Thrifty, Maria Nedeva, FIREcracker, and Romeo Jeremiah.

A bunch of people from our community created a parody of “The Office” which was shown at our annual blogger award ceremony and was downright HILARIOUS. Then ended with a surprise performance from American Idol contestant Dalton Rapattoni!
