Answered Prayer for Deliverance from Adversaries
To the Chief Musician. With stringed instruments. A Contemplation of David when the Ziphites went and said to Saul, “Is David not hiding with us?”
1 Save me, O God, by Your name, And vindicate me by Your strength. 2 Hear my prayer, O God; Give ear to the words of my mouth. 3 For strangers have risen up against me, And oppressors have sought after my life; They have not set God before them. Selah 4 Behold, God is my helper; The Lord is with those who uphold my life. 5 He will repay my enemies for their evil. Cut them off in Your truth. 6 I will freely sacrifice to You; I will praise Your name, O Lord, for it is good. 7 For He has delivered me out of all trouble; And my eye has seen its desire upon my enemies. — Psalm 54 | New King James Version (NKJV) The Holy Bible; New King James Version®. Gospel Acclamation John 10:27
Alleluia, alleluia. My sheep hear my voice, says the Lord; I know them, and they follow me. Alleluia, alleluia.
Gospel Matthew 23:13-22 Woe to you, blind guides.
Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples: “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites. You lock the Kingdom of heaven before men. You do not enter yourselves, nor do you allow entrance to those trying to enter. “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites. You traverse sea and land to make one convert, and when that happens you make him a child of Gehenna twice as much as yourselves. “Woe to you, blind guides, who say, ‘If one swears by the temple, it means nothing, but if one swears by the gold of the temple, one is obligated.’ Blind fools, which is greater, the gold, or the temple that made the gold sacred? And you say, ‘If one swears by the altar, it means nothing, but if one swears by the gift on the altar, one is obligated.’ You blind ones, which is greater, the gift, or the altar that makes the gift sacred? One who swears by the altar swears by it and all that is upon it; one who swears by the temple swears by it and by him who dwells in it; one who swears by heaven swears by the throne of God and by him who is seated on it.”

R/ Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Psalms chapter 96
1 O sing unto the LORD a new song: sing unto the LORD, all the earth.
2 Sing unto the LORD, bless his name; shew forth his salvation from day to day.
3 Declare his glory among the heathen, his wonders among all people.
4 For the LORD is great, and greatly to be praised: he is to be feared above all gods.
5 For all the gods of the nations are idols: but the LORD made the heavens.
6 Honour and majesty are before him: strength and beauty are in his sanctuary.
7 Give unto the LORD, O ye kindreds of the people, give unto the LORD glory and strength.
8 Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name: bring an offering, and come into his courts.
9 O worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness: fear before him, all the earth.
10 Say among the heathen that the LORD reigneth: the world also shall be established that it shall not be moved: he shall judge the people righteously.
11 Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad; let the sea roar, and the fulness thereof.
12 Let the field be joyful, and all that is therein: then shall all the trees of the wood rejoice
13 Before the LORD: for he cometh, for he cometh to judge the earth: he shall judge the world with righteousness, and the people with his truth.

Psalm 96:2–3 TPT - "Don't stop! Keep on singing! Make His name famous! Tell everyone every day how wonderful He is. Give them the good news of our great Savior. Take the message of His glory and miracles to every nation. Tell them about all the extraordinary things He has done."
Start a list today. Document every blessing or gift God has given you throughout your lifetime. Now, thank Him for everything He has given you. Each of those blessings is a miracle!
After you consider this list and recognize the miracles God has already given to you, you will share your testimony with many and develop the expectation that Jesus wants to work through you.
As you are walking in the Spirit, listen for His voice 24 hours a day. He may want to heal the cashier when you stop at the drugstore. Willingly allow Him to work through your voice and your hands to minister healing to the cashier, busboy, waiter, cab driver, or anyone else you encounter during a busy day. Continually talk about the miracle-working power of God.

Bible Study | Proverbs 1:7 | The Significance of Fearing the Lord in Light of the Gospel
An integral aspect of walking with God is the fear of the Lord. In this article, we examine the wisdom of Proverbs 1:7 in the light of the Gospel of Christ. In doing so, we gain insight into the importance of fearing God and the repercussions of forsaking wisdom and instruction.
God Is Worthy to Be Feared
The term "fear" in the context of the fear of the Lord is not the paralyzing terror we might associate with it. Here, “fear” translates to deep respect, reverence and love for God. Therefore, by fearing the Lord, we humble ourselves, choosing God's ways over our own, recognizing Him as the great I AM, who is alone worthy of our worship.
Psalm 96:4 (NKJV) - For the Lord is great and greatly to be praised; He is to be feared above all gods.
The Bible confirms that the fear of the Lord does not entail living in constant dread or walking on eggshells under condemnation. It explicitly states that God has not given us a spirit of fear. Furthermore, it emphasizes that perfect love casts out all fear. This is especially true for believers, as we have obtained peace with God through the blood of Jesus. When we comprehend that the fear of the Lord is good for us because through it God lovingly guides us, then we have nothing to be terrified of. Consequently, we willingly choose to love Him.
2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV) - For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind
1 John 4:18 (NKJV) - There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.
Those Who Neglect Reverence Face Consequences
However, for those who fail to fear the Lord, there is something to be utterly terrified of. Paul, the apostle, acknowledges the terror of God, especially for unbelievers. This knowledge of God urges us to preach the Gospel, offering salvation to those who believe and sparing them from the impending wrath of God.
2 Corinthians 5:11 (NKJV) - Knowing, therefore, the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are well known to God, and I also trust are well known in your consciences.
Jesus himself advised us to fear God, who has the authority to destroy both body and soul, over fearing mere mortals who can only harm the body. The instruction to work out our salvation with fear and trembling resonates through the teachings; We are to always mindful that God, being just, will judge every deed.
Matthew 10:28 (NKJV) - And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
2 Corinthians 5:10 (NKJV) - For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.
On the day of Judgment, if we are found guilty because we do not believe in the only begotten Son of God, Jesus Christ, for our salvation, we will face the penalty of sin–death–leading to eternal damnation and the wrath of God.
Worldly Knowledge vs. True Godly Knowledge
Fearing God, therefore, is the beginning of true knowledge, guiding us to follow the One who leads us to life–-eternal life. It allows us to know the true and only God. In contrast, worldly knowledge deceives by appearing clever, but it cannot save anyone's soul. This type of knowledge only puffs up, causing people to become wise in their own eyes, thinking that they know better than God. Some even deny His existence. However, by professing to be wise they become fools by rejecting the truth and not following Jesus. Therefore, they will face the consequences of those decisions.
Proverbs 3:7 (NKJV) - Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and depart from evil.
All Given the Opportunity to Choose Wisely
God warns and gives every person the opportunity to choose between life and death: Every person who walks this earth will hear the Gospel. Yet, many will despise this wisdom and instruction, unaware that in Jesus, God has hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
1 Corinthians 1:18 (NKJV) - For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
Colossians 2:2-3 (NKJV) - that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, and attaining to all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the knowledge of the mystery of God, both of the Father and of Christ, 3 in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
In conclusion, when reading Proverbs 1:7 with the Gospel of Christ in mind, we discern the benefits of fearing the Lord and the severe consequences of neglecting wisdom and instruction.

2 Thessalonians 3:5 And the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patient waiting for Christ.
Matthew 5:45 [God] makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the righteous and on the unrighteous.
Psalm 96:10 Say among the nations, “The Lord reigns.” The world is firmly established, it cannot be moved; He will judge the peoples with equity.
James 5:20 remember this: Whoever turns a sinner from the error of their way will save them from death and cover over a multitude of sins.
Isaiah 32:17 The fruit of that righteousness will be peace; its effect will be quietness and confidence forever.
Zephaniah 3:17 Jehovah thy God is in the midst of thee, a mighty one who will save; He will rejoice over thee with joy; He will rest in His love; He will joy over thee with singing.
May you know that when you are poor and needy, parched with thirst, searching for living water to refresh your soul, the Lord will answer you, the God of Israel will not forsake you, but will make rivers flow on barren heights and springs within valleys, turning the desert into pools of water, and the wilderness into an orchard, so that people may see and know, consider and understand, that the hand of the Lord has done it. Isaiah 41
May you realize through the work of God in your life that the enemy of God is defeated and has become less than nothing with works that are utterly worthless, and anyone who chooses him becomes polluted; for the former things he reminds you of are cleansed and removed by Christ's sacrifice, and the future things he warns you of are lies which never happen, intended only to make you fear, but instead are cast out by the perfect love of Jesus. Isaiah 41
May you be led by the Spirit of God, following the example of Jesus as a servant, delighting the Father with obedience, that He may use you to bring justice to the nations through the finished work of Christ, neither shouting or crying out in the streets, gentle with those who have been damaged, encouraging to those about to give up, faithfully persistent in His grace, neither faltering nor giving up until His work through you is finished. Isaiah 42
May you be willing to take the hand of the Lord, Who has called you in righteousness, for through Christ He will keep you and by His faithfulness to you show His covenant to the people and make His light shine through you to the nations, so that blind eyes will see and imprisoned captives are freed, and release is given to those sitting in the darkest dungeons, because the Lord is His name and He will not give His glory to another, or let His praise go to idols. Isaiah 42
May you sing to the Lord a new song and spread His praise from the ends of the earth, from the seashore to the mountaintops, for the Lord will march out like a mighty man and come out like a warrior, full of fury and indignation, raising the battle cry as He triumphs over His enemies. Isaiah 42
May you not be afraid, for the Lord has redeemed you and summoned you by name, for you are His; He will be with you when you pass through the waters so the rivers will not sweep over you and the flames will not burn you when you walk through the fire, for the Holy One of Israel, your Savior, has given nations as your ransom and others in exchange for your life because you are precious and honored in His sight, and He has created you for His glory. Isaiah 43
May you be the Lord's witness, and a chosen servant of His, so that you may know and believe the Lord, understanding that He is the One Who is God, with none formed before Him and none created after Him, and He alone is your Savior, Who has revealed, saved, and proclaimed, and when He acts, who can reverse it? Isaiah 43
My child, I tell you what is to come before it occurs, that you may know that I am the Lord. I prepare for you a shelter when the sky is clear, so that when the wind picks up and the clouds start to cover the sky, you have a place to take refuge. I place a person in your life as a dear friend, so that when you need a shoulder to lean on, they can show you My love. I put a yearning in your heart that pulls you from your comfort zone and sends you searching My Word and praying to receive direction, so that when My servant speaks truth in your life, you know the witness of the Spirit which has been preparing you for the next step. If you will look, My love, you will see and know that I have always been preparing the way for you, making provision for you, providing that which you will need in time for the need to be met. Is there any other who has done this for you? Recognize Me as the majestic Lord whose direction is worthy of allowing your life to be disrupted for, whose Word is reliable enough to trust even when it does not conform to public expectations. Know that I do not casually or lightly bring change to your life, My dear one, but when I hear your heart cry out for more of Me, I will not ignore your plea. I will lift you to a higher plateau and show you a closer fellowship in the Spirit, giving you a more intimate relationship with Me and a greater revelation of the love of the Father. Realize that this will cause you to become more devoted to the needs of My people, which is the work of the kingdom, for this is the heart of the Three-in-One.
May you remember that, though you once followed the ruler of the kingdom of the air, gratifying the cravings of your sinful nature and obeying its desires and thoughts, by grace God gave you the gift of faith to be saved because of His great love for you and the richness of His mercy. He made you alive with Christ and seating you in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, that you may see the incomparable riches of His grace expressed in His kindness to you in Christ Jesus. Ephesians 2
May you understand that you are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for you to do. Ephesians 2
May you recall that though you were once separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in His kingdom and foreigners to the covenants of the promise, without hope and without God in the world, now in Christ Jesus you have been brought near through the blood of Christ, for Christ Himself is your peace, and through Him you have access, with all others, to the Father by one Spirit, joined together as the whole building rises to become a holy temple in the Lord, where God dwells by His Spirit. Ephesians 2
May God be gracious to you and bless you and make His face shine upon you that His ways may be known on earth and His salvation among all nations. Psalm 67
May you praise God with all the peoples of the nations, gladly singing for joy, for He rules the peoples justly and guides the nations of the earth. Psalm 67
May you praise God with all the peoples for then the land will yield its harvest and God will bless you, and all the ends of the earth will fear Him. Psalm 67
May you forsake the wine of vintners and the drink of merchants, not seeking the fellowship of the world or the enjoyment of material things, and turn instead to the new wine of the Spirit and be infused with the joy of the Lord wherein there is no indiscretion or reckless abandon, but only considered wisdom and patient endurance with gentle long-suffering towards others. Proverbs 23:29-35 Ephesians 5 Galatians 5

TRUE WORSHIP!
TRUE WORSHIP
John 4:24

Worship is the interrelation between God and the human response to His royalty. It is the human response to the self-revelation of the triune God and an expression of reverence and adoration of God. Worship is the honour, respect, and reverential deference accorded to God Almighty for who He is.
Some other meanings of worship include:
Worship is the divine initiation through which God reveals Himself, His purposes, and His will by means of a spiritual and personal relationship in Jesus Christ on the part of the worshiper.
Worship is the response of the believer in adoration, humility, submission, and obedience to God.
We worship God in spirit when, under the influence of the Holy Ghost, we bring all our affections, appetites, and desires to the throne of God. We worship God in truth when every purpose and passion of our hearts, and every act of religious worship, is guided and regulated by the word of God.
You can worship God in any of these ways:
Bowing
Bowing down
Doing obeisance
Offering reverence
Laying down in prostration
Stooping down
Crouching
There is a constant invitation to believers to come and worship the Lord in adoration, according to Psalm 95:6. As spirit-filled and led people, we must approach the throne of the Father always with awe, reverence, and wonder. He is worthy of our worship and praise, but we must not disregard His awe-inspiring greatness and sovereignty.
If the form of worship changes with times and situations, its heart and centre do not. God is still God and must be worshiped in spirit and truth. When we come to worship the Lord, we do so in reverent celebration to express our devotion to Him, by singing His praise with shouts of joy and songs of praise, as seen in 1 Chronicles 16:29.
Jesus teaches that genuine worship is no longer confined to a particular place, location, or building as stated in John 4:21-24, but our worship should be based upon a spiritual relationship between the worshiper and God through faith in Jesus Christ and spirit according to Philippians 3:3.
Worshiping God in the beauty of His holiness means to live holy lives and bring every aspect of our lives under His Lordship. The channel that ushers us into the presence of the Lord is praise and worship. God lives in the atmosphere of our praises, and it is through praise and worship that we communicate our devotion to Him according to Psalm 96:9.
Let the anointing of the Lord fuel our worship. When we worship and praise the Lord in reverence and humility, we build Him a comfortable atmosphere during our worship. However, He is not comfortable amid our ungodly and unholy attitudes and unrighteousness.
Our worship is to acknowledge that the things declared about the Lord are true, and that He deserves admiration for them (Psalm 29:2). Even nations made by the Lord will come to worship and glorify His name, according to Psalm 86:9, because indeed all the earth will worship the Creator in the beauty and splendour of His majesty.
Let your worship create the atmosphere where nothing is impossible, no disease incurable—the atmosphere of Jesus, where nothing is hidden, and everything is released through pure, spiritual, and truthful worship of the King of kings.
Come, worship, and sing a new song to the Lord, for He is great and greatly to be praised. God is Spirit. He is present everywhere, so worship Him everywhere. Worship the Lord!
PRAYER: I sing praises to you, oh Lord my God, for you are great and most worthy of praise, God, our strength. My mouth shall forever worship your majesty in Christ’s name, amen.
Shalom

MAKE KNOWN HIS WONDERFUL DEEDS
  ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
📖 O give thanks unto the LORD; call upon his name: make known his deeds among the people (Psalm 105:1).
Pastor Chris Says
━━━━━━━━━━
There’re people who always share testimonies. When they’re in church and the Pastor asks if anyone has a testimony to share, they’re always the first to respond. How is it that some people are so blessed that they always have testimonies? The answer is in Isaiah 12:3-4, “Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation. And in that day shall ye say, Praise the LORD….”
Did you see that? Their hearts are usually full of praise. What’s praise? Praise is the fruit of our lips—giving thanks to the Lord. This is even clearer in the English Standard Version: “And you will say in that day: Give thanks to the LORD, call upon his name, make known his deeds among the peoples, proclaim that his name is exalted” (Isaiah 12:4 ESV).
Notice that it says, “make known his deeds”; in other words, testify! Grateful people always testify; they always have something to say that God has done for them. They’re always bubbling with joy. What kind of a person are you? Be sure that you’re a testifier. Always share your testimonies of what the Lord has done in your life.
1 Peter 2:9 tells us something beautiful; it says, “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light.” Notice the underlined part; you were called, that is, ordained to show forth His praise; to declare His mighty works. Hallelujah!
Therefore, always testify of His love, His grace, His faithfulness and loving kindness that you enjoy every day. Be grateful to Him that He causes you to triumph always and in every place through Christ Jesus. Remember, winners are always full of joy and thanksgiving.
          🙏 P R A Y E R
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Dear Father, you’re great and glorious; you’re righteous, holy, just, true and pure. Your works are eternal, and so are your tender mercies and grace. I worship you for your faithfulness and goodness that are evident in my life. You’re exalted above all, the great King of all, the Creator of all things. Thank you, for not only have you conferred your Kingdom on me, you’ve expanded the Kingdom in me. Hallelujah!

WHY THESE VIRUSES? WEST NILE, EEE & MPOX, May 15, 2026
God has laid upon His people the promised blessings that will be given if they consistently adhere to His commandments (Deuteronomy 28:1, 2).
However, if the people are adamant in defying God’s laws (Zechariah 7:11-13), He will allow the diseases akin to the plagues in Egypt to cleave unto them (Deuteronomy 28:15, 58-59).
DEUTERONOMY 28:21-22, 60-61
(21) The LORD shall make the PESTILENCE CLEAVE unto thee…
(22) …with a fever, and with an inflammation…
(60) Moreover he will bring upon thee all the DISEASES of EGYPT, which thou wast afraid of…
(61) Also every SICKNESS, and every PLAGUE, which is not written in the book of this law…
A rare but deadly disease spread by mosquitoes has recently been discovered by infectious diseases experts, particularly in America.
West Nile Virus (WNV) and Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) are zoonotic diseases that have been continuously infecting people, mainly across the United States.
American health authorities were prompt to implement curfew hours, particularly in Massachusetts, because of the deadly mosquito virus.
E – 5 (EEE) Eastern Equine Encephalitis
5 x 3 = 15
W – 23, N – 14, V – 22 (WNV) West Nile Virus
2 x 3 x 1 x 4 x 2 x 2 = 96 (9 + 6 = 15)
The sacred numbers of the pagan goddesses Ishtar and Sin are 15 and 30, which are likewise associated with the 153 white roses in Mary’s crown. (THE SECRET OF THE ROSARY, St. Louis De Montfort, pg. 28)
1 x 5 x 3 = 15
Biblically, the plagues in Egypt, which are an execution of God’s judgment both to the rebellious people and to the pagan gods, are a demonstration of God’s supremacy.
NUMBERS 33:4 For the Egyptians buried all their firstborn, which the LORD had smitten among them: upon their gods also the LORD EXECUTED JUDGMENTS.
The Egyptians who suffered God’s retribution have conceded that God's finger stroked them with 10 plagues, for they broke the 10 commandments written by the finger of God.
NUMBERS 14:22 …and have TEMPTED me now these TEN TIMES, and have NOT HEARKENED to my voice;
EXODUS 8:18, 19
(18) And the magicians did so with their enchantments to bring forth lice, but they COULD NOT…
(19) Then the magicians said unto Pharaoh, This is the FINGER of GOD…
DEUTERONOMY 9:10 And the LORD delivered unto me TWO TABLES of stone written with the FINGER of GOD… which the LORD spake with you in the MOUNT…
The 10 plagues depicts the 7 plagues (Revelation 15:1) that will be poured in the final days, as God’s words being purified 7 times (Psalm 12:6) have been corrupted by man with the 7 sins (Proverbs 6:16-19).
LEVITICUS 26:23, 24
(23) And if ye will not be reformed by me by these things, but will WALK CONTRARY unto me;
(24) Then will I also walk contrary unto you, and will PUNISH you yet SEVEN TIMES for your SINS.
The triangular number of 7 is 28. Herewith, number 28 refers to the 28 moon gods and goddesses of the pagans.
God used the number of the pagans in revealing His appointed time to return their ways to their own heads (Obadiah 15).
2 + 8 = 10
Taking the cube of numbers 1-10 as per digit will give a sum of 2026, the exact year of Christ’s return.
The earth has been defiled and cursed by God for breaking His law, notably the everlasting covenant (Leviticus 24:8, Exodus 31:16, 17), which is the Sabbath (Saturday).
ISAIAH 24:5, 6
(5) The EARTH also is defiled… because they have transgressed the laws… BROKEN the EVERLASTING COVENANT.
(6) Therefore hath the CURSE devoured the EARTH… the inhabitants of the earth are burned…
Hereby, it defies logic to claim that God has abrogated His law because He continues to uphold the Sabbath, His everlasting covenant, even in these final days.
HEBREWS 13:20 …brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus… through the blood of the EVERLASTING COVENANT,
MARK 1:15 The TIME IS FULFILLED, and the kingdom of God is at hand: REPENT ye, and BELIEVE the gospel.
TO GOD BE THE GLORY!

Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy to the Church of the Thessalonians
in God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ:
grace to you and peace from God our Father
and the Lord Jesus Christ.
We ought to thank God always for you, brothers and sisters,
as is fitting, because your faith flourishes ever more,
and the love of every one of you for one another grows ever greater.
Accordingly, we ourselves boast of you in the churches of God
regarding your endurance and faith in all your persecutions

for which you are suffering.
We always pray for you,
that our God may make you worthy of his calling
and powerfully bring to fulfillment every good purpose
and every effort of faith,

Announce his salvation, day after day.
Tell his glory among the nations;
among all peoples, his wondrous deeds.

For great is the LORD and highly to be praised;
awesome is he, beyond all gods.
For all the gods of the nations are things of nought,
but the LORD made the heavens.

Gospel

Mt 23:13-22
Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples:
“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites.
You lock the Kingdom of heaven before men.
You do not enter yourselves,
nor do you allow entrance to those trying to enter.
“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites.
You traverse sea and land to make one convert,
and when that happens you make him a child of Gehenna
twice as much as yourselves.
“Woe to you, blind guides, who say,
‘If one swears by the temple, it means nothing,
but if one swears by the gold of the temple, one is obligated.’
Blind fools, which is greater, the gold,
or the temple that made the gold sacred?
And you say, ‘If one swears by the altar, it means nothing,
but if one swears by the gift on the altar, one is obligated.’
You blind ones, which is greater, the gift,
or the altar that makes the gift sacred?
One who swears by the altar swears by it and all that is upon it;
one who swears by the temple swears by it
and by him who dwells in it;
one who swears by heaven swears by the throne of God
and by him who is seated on it.”

FOCUS AND LITURGY OF THE WORD
Over the past several readings, Jesus has directed strong words toward the scribes and Pharisees. This continues with today’s reading by Matthew in which Jesus once again rebukes the scribes and Pharisees for their hypocrisy – part of the seven woes against them. One can certainly sense Jesus’ anger toward their hypocrisy, but also the sorrow he feels toward them for their beliefs and practices – one can sense Jesus’ frustration and sadness for despite showing them the way they just don’t get it. Within the reading, we see how the scribes and Pharisees believe the way to the Kingdom of heaven is through following their prescribed rules and rituals. However, it is through their arrogancy that they fail to understand that their stance and beliefs are not only limiting their own ability to enter the kingdom of heaven, but to others as well through their failure to acknowledge Jesus as the Christ and in similarly dissuading others from believing in Jesus. Jesus then chastises them for converting others to fall into a similar belief system as opposed to accepting him as the Christ and following his teachings. Finally, Jesus criticizes them for their misguided use of scriptures and the creation of traditions, rituals, and oaths to follow and then blindly guiding others to believe this is the path to the Kingdom of God versus following the truth, which is Jesus and his teachings.
After reading Matthew, I ask myself – Like the scribes and Pharisees, have I set up impediments in my life that keep me from accepting Jesus as the Christ and from entering the Kingdom of heaven? Is it arrogancy, hypocrisy, showmanship, or flat out not abiding by my sacramental oath to love God and to do so with all my heart. I pray that through humility and reflection that I may better understand my faults and better prepare to honor God in the manner that Jesus taught us.

SAINT OF THE DAY
Saint Joseph Calasanz
(September 11, 1556 – August 25, 1648)
Saint Joseph Calasanz’ Story
From Aragon where he was born in 1556, to Rome where he died 92 years later, fortune alternately smiled and frowned on the work of Joseph Calasanz. A priest with university training in canon law and theology, respected for his wisdom and administrative expertise, he put aside his career because he was deeply concerned with the need for education of poor children.
When he was unable to get other institutes to undertake this apostolate at Rome, Joseph and several companions personally provided a free school for deprived children. So overwhelming was the response that there was a constant need for larger facilities to house their effort. Soon, Pope Clement VIII gave support to the school, and this aid continued under Pope Paul V. Other schools were opened; other men were attracted to the work, and in 1621 the community—for so the teachers lived—was recognized as a religious community, the Clerks Regular of Religious Schools—Piarists or Scolopi. Not long after, Joseph was appointed superior for life.
A combination of various prejudices and political ambition and maneuvering caused the institute much turmoil. Some did not favor educating the poor, for education would leave the poor dissatisfied with their lowly tasks for society! Others were shocked that some of the Piarists were sent for instruction to Galileo—a friend of Joseph—as superior, thus dividing the members into opposite camps. Repeatedly investigated by papal commissions, Joseph was demoted; when the struggle within the institute persisted, the Piarists were suppressed. Only after Joseph’s death were they formally recognized as a religious community. His liturgical feast is celebrated on August 25.
Reflection
----------
No one knew better than Joseph the need for the work he was doing; no one knew better than he how baseless were the charges brought against him. Yet if he were to work within the Church, he realized that he must submit to its authority, that he must accept a setback if he was unable to convince authorized investigators. While the prejudice, the scheming and the ignorance of men often keep the truth from emerging for a long period of time, Joseph was convinced, even under suppression, that his institute would again be recognized and authorized. With this trust he joined exceptional patience and a genuine spirit of forgiveness.

God Gives What Is Good
1 The Lord says, “All you who are thirsty, come and drink. Those of you who do not have money, come, buy and eat! Come buy wine and milk without money and without cost. 2 Why spend your money on something that is not real food? Why work for something that doesn’t really satisfy you? Listen closely to me, and you will eat what is good; your soul will enjoy the rich food that satisfies. 3 Come to me and listen; listen to me so you may live. I will make an agreement with you that will last forever. I will give you the blessings I promised to David. 4 I made David a witness of my power for all nations, a ruler and commander of many nations. 5 You will call for nations that you don’t yet know. And these nations that do not know you will run to you because of the Lord your God, because of the Holy One of Israel who honors you.”
6 So you should look for the Lord before it is too late; you should call to him while he is near. 7 The wicked should stop doing wrong, and they should stop their evil thoughts. They should return to the Lord so he may have mercy on them. They should come to our God, because he will freely forgive them.
8 The Lord says, “My thoughts are not like your thoughts. Your ways are not like my ways. 9 Just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts. 10 Rain and snow fall from the sky and don’t return without watering the ground. They cause the plants to sprout and grow, making seeds for the farmer and bread for the people. 11 The same thing is true of the words I speak. They will not return to me empty. They make the things happen that I want to happen, and they succeed in doing what I send them to do.
12 “So you will go out with joy and be led out in peace. The mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees in the fields will clap their hands. 13 Large cypress trees will grow where thornbushes were. Myrtle trees will grow where weeds were. These things will be a reminder of the Lord’s promise, and this reminder will never be destroyed.” — Isaiah 55 | New Century Version (NCV) The Holy Bible, New Century Version®. 29th December >> Mass Readings (USA)
Fifth day within the octave of Christmas
(optional commemoration of Saint Thomas Becket, Bishop, Martyr)
(Liturgical Colour: White: B (2))
First Reading 1 John 2:3-11 Those who love their brother remain in the light.
Beloved: The way we may be sure that we know Jesus is to keep his commandments. Whoever says, “I know him,” but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoever keeps his word, the love of God is truly perfected in him. This is the way we may know that we are in union with him: whoever claims to abide in him ought to walk just as he walked.
Beloved, I am writing no new commandment to you but an old commandment that you had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word that you have heard. And yet I do write a new commandment to you, which holds true in him and among you, for the darkness is passing away, and the true light is already shining. Whoever says he is in the light, yet hates his brother, is still in the darkness. Whoever loves his brother remains in the light, and there is nothing in him to cause a fall. Whoever hates his brother is in darkness; he walks in darkness and does not know where he is going because the darkness has blinded his eyes.
The Word of the Lord
R/ Thanks be to God.
Responsorial Psalm Psalm 96:1-2a, 2b-3, 5b-6
R/ Let the heavens be glad and the earth rejoice!
Sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all you lands. Sing to the LORD; bless his name.
R/ Let the heavens be glad and the earth rejoice!
Announce his salvation, day after day. Tell his glory among the nations; among all peoples, his wondrous deeds.
R/ Let the heavens be glad and the earth rejoice!
The LORD made the heavens. Splendor and majesty go before him; praise and grandeur are in his sanctuary.
R/ Let the heavens be glad and the earth rejoice!
Gospel Acclamation Luke 2:32
Alleluia, alleluia. A light of revelation to the Gentiles and glory for your people Israel. Alleluia, alleluia.
Gospel Luke 2:22-35 This is the light of revelation to the Gentiles.
When the days were completed for their purification according to the law of Moses, the parents of Jesus took him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord, just as it is written in the law of the Lord, Every male that opens the womb shall be consecrated to the Lord, and to offer the sacrifice of a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons, in accordance with the dictate in the law of the Lord. Now there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon. This man was righteous and devout, awaiting the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he should not see death before he had seen the Christ of the Lord. He came in the Spirit into the temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus to perform the custom of the law in regard to him, he took him into his arms and blessed God, saying:
“Lord, now let your servant go in peace; your word has been fulfilled: my own eyes have seen the salvation which you prepared in the sight of every people, a light to reveal you to the nations and the glory of your people Israel.”
The child’s father and mother were amazed at what was said about him; and Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother, “Behold, this child is destined for the fall and rise of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be contradicted (and you yourself a sword will pierce) so that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.”
The Gospel of the Lord
R/ Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
